When people try to belittle the fact that the civil war was about slavery, one only needs to listen to the words of the battle hymn of the republic. It wasn't just a war, it was a holy war to end the terror of slavery. Listen to the whole thing. There is a reason Lincoln and the soldiers loved it so much. It gives me chills.

There were many reasons for the civil war. As a historian I have studied the civil war quite a bit. It was about states rights, slavery, miscommunication, and mass hysteria
@keeponliving24814 жыл бұрын
Gusgus 1212 it was pretty much slavery. Everything else was synonymous with or a bi- product of “ the peculiar institution”.
@jacobjones52694 жыл бұрын
It was about slavery.. The men of the day said as much.. The cornerstone speech by Alexander Stephens, and the articles of secession by the various states, which are littered with rhetoric about slavery, and had virtually zero language about states rights.. My state, Texas, mentions the words slave, slavery, or slave-holding 27 time, and doesn’t mention states right once.. The states rights nonsense is revisionist BS.. I do think miscommunication was a factor, certainly..

@@jacobjones5269 Nah man it was 100% about states' rights. States' rights to permit slavery.
@ethanlorenzo7023 жыл бұрын
@@jacobjones5269 Yes, slavery was a huge part of it, but the big picture is from the South's perspective is that it was about the Federal Government not being able to forcefully decree something to the states Top Down, while the aim of abolishing slavery was moral just and noble, it did set a precedent that we still deal with the concequences of today, the Founding Fathers universally agreed that States reserved a Right to Succeed from the Union, the Feds not allowing the CSA to Succeed was actually Unconstitutional from the perspective of the Founders

I learned this song when I was 11 years old in school in England. Our teacher wrote the whole song on the blackboard and sang it to us. We sang it until we knew it by heart. At 16 I went to America where I was born and my life started over...67 years old now and love this song!

I enjoy both versions... We should be willing and honores to do both. Indeed it is become of us to die for what is right but much more difficult is it to live for what is right. So i sing both live and die.

such a dramatic story but soo true it broke our union in half, and was family against family, brother against brother, father against son, just like how the military taps solo came to be, hope we dont go that route again but its as divided as were were since the civil rights movement, while our enemies wait at the gates and inside our electronics in our homes, we got to wake up as a nation and come togather over something, and regain our faith or we die, no the founders weren't perfect but they were on to an idea that was good and noble at least on the surface, I miss when we had competint leaders, could come togather over what united us, and when people knew at least what it ment to be a citizen from the usa and what was expected and at least as a whole practiced, no one is perfect, and people even the greatest of men will fall or have skelitons in the closet, but what I do know is prudence and common sense and sense of is this best for the nation are lacking, we cant go on much more like this

I'd rather preach the word of God than talk about something in regards to the country. We can get history lessons in many places. But good preaching to lost people on the street and not an unbiblical church building (Acts 7:48-50) is hard to find. Jesus Christ sets people free from being slaves to sin.
@UrsahSolar Жыл бұрын
He's talking about the history of a Christian hymn. Reminding people that ours was a God fearing country and could be again is important to prevent people from being discouraged.
@panzerofthelake506 Жыл бұрын
Yeah theological indoctrination is obviously way better than setting men free as Jesus originally wanted. You belittle Jesus's whole existence by claiming the struggle against slavery isn't more important than any other cause.
@UrsahSolar Жыл бұрын

Slavery wasn't the only issue that caused the ACW. The splitting of the USA was threatened by the difference between an agriculturally based on a socio-culrural-economic structure, with the vision of a European balance of power, which is why the American Civil War was fought. The issue of slavery is parallel with these other factors. The fact that the British Army's & Royal Navy's officers during the War of 1822 observed that the radical differences between the North and South of the USA were bound to lead to a civil war is testament to the fact that slavery was 1 of several gigantic issues that caused tge civil war. The spectre of more than 2 countries occupying what was tge USA, with many states yet to come into being, meant that civil war was on the cards. The USA wasn't called The Great Experiment for nothing when it was declared in 1776.
