Y'all should know by now that I'm a die-hard Gunprimer Raser fanboy. I've used it on numerous builds, and I have the Raser, Raser 1.5, and the Raser+. I was immediately shocked when I tried this file out for the first time, mostly because I didn't think a nano glass file this good would exist at this price point.
Watch the video for some comparisons and see how similar they actually are, it'll save you a good deal of money if you end up picking the Siren!

I normally use it in a push-cut style and hold it with my thumb on the back edge and a finger down the front. During use if it builds up some 'light' clogging, I can simply drop my hand and stroke it across my thigh following the direction of the cutting grooves (in my case this is back and to the right) and this removes it.

I just got myself a raser v1.5 with a siren in the mail as a backup. Can't wait to try them out o find the difference. I've been using a raser+ for a couple of kits now and can honestly say that they're well worth it for sheer convenience. But, I do think I prefer the ergonomics of the 1.5 and siren a bit more due to their thinner profile. Only time will tell.

@@r.five.3 After building a couple high grades and a bigger real grade, I'll definitely say that the Raser+ leaves the cleanest finish, but the thinner 1.5 makes it easy to get into smaller bits. The Syren is definitely on par with the raser 1.5 in terms of nub removal. However, much like in other videos, the Syren clogs up much faster than the raser, which means I need to spend a little time (and a lot of scotch tape) to clean it out more frequently. I do like the fact that the Syren came with a case. All in all, I'd say that if you were to get 2 files I'd go for the Raser+ and the Syren as the two picks. The only caveat is the more frequent cleaning, as well as leaving some more apparent marks if used with poor technique.

Another way to clean up the DSPIAE Siren, in my experience, is just to wipe it on a cloth and that usually works for me. So you can wipe it on your pants, or DSPIAE and even HobbyMio sells one of those Static Electric Dust Removal Cloth if you don't want to dirty your pants lol

I use the siren with a denture brush for its cheap price and stiff brushes, in combination with the gunprimer gray balancer. Denture brushes work super well at cleaning the siren. I do personally prefer the raser for its size and shape however I can buy a siren, a denture brush, and a pack of gunprimer gray balancers for less that one raser, and achieve the same if not better results. If I can save a buck and not miss out on end results that’s a win for sure. And I’ll add those savings towards buying more Gunpla or a godhand

I love the Raser but tools being over budget is a matter of discussion. I used to buy a lot of sandpaper and sandingsticks before I got the Raser. So that already saves me things I have to buy over and over. Then the model kits itself. RG and MG ones and up aren't cheap (at least not in my country), so investing in good tools you don't have to replace often and give you a good result is worth it imho.

You've got some wonderful videos, and one of the few i've seen that have anything on the Dspiae siren. Im wondering though, for those of us using a godhand to do a second snip of the nubs, do you think this, or the Raser are worth using as a follow up? I've been finding that even after the godhands, i still have a little clean up to do.
@aMillaGunpla

Yes, they pair together nicely! I typically will cut until there's 1mm or less left of the nub, then file it down with a glass file.
@bobbrossify
@bobbrossify 2 жыл бұрын
No dude lol. There’s zero reason in snipping with godhands if you’re gonna file. Frankly there’s no reason to buy godhands period.. just get a decent set of single blade nips. But if you’re going to glass file the nub anyway you can snip with basically anything, the goal being just to leave a small nub to file off. I did a whole build with a siren and a set of bandai entry nippers just to see and it’s perfect. I don’t like the way this community is going of like gatekeeping newbies in to thinking they’ve gotta dump $100+ on tools to start. You straight don’t. What you’re saving with $60 nippers is time. Legitimately with just cheap nippers and a hobby knife you should be able to get a perfect build with a big of practice. Throw in a glass file and for under $20 I guarantee you can do anything all these folks who’ve spent $100+ on tools can do.
@aMillaGunpla
@aMillaGunpla 2 жыл бұрын
Well, to be fair, Alex had mentioned, "for those of us using a GodHand". I'm not telling them to get GodHand nippers--matter of fact, a majority of the time I recommend cheaper alternatives to GodHands. They asked if a glass file works well as cleanup, which it does quite nicely! Even GodHand themselves admits that there will be a residual nub unless the gate is on the edge of a part, and glass files are perfect for removing that last sliver of nub with a much less risk of marring the surround plastic compared to sand paper or a hobby knife.

Does the raser really produce a smooth surface after sanding despite being around 220 grit? When I even try to use a 600 grit or below sandpaper grit equivalent it usually takes off too much of the plastic. Perhaps, I am not doing it correctly or should I even compare the raser to sandpaper? Still surprised there’s not that much difference between the 12000 grit dspiae and 220 raser.

I'm new, please explain this to me
@emmanuelray2464
@emmanuelray2464 2 жыл бұрын
@@kaiserstorm886 As with any sanding project, particles are sent flying into the air (drywall dust comes to mind) to land on anything nearby (your clothes, desk, other pieces, etc), messing up your paint finishes/ decals/ stickers or inhaled by you and those around (pets?). Inhaling plastic isn't the best and the dust from resin pieces is toxic to inhale (used in some non-bandai kits, and as hi-res pieces for modding kits when/ if you get into Gunpla modding/ customizing kits). Using masking tape instead of a brush or air to clean the file helps to limit the added dust by sticking to it and holding it. When a file needs a cleaning, grab a piece of masking tape and use it as you would expect, place and file and peel. Think getting lint or pet hair off clothes with tape or a sticky lint roller. Plastic dust=annoying and who wants more plastic in their body, resin dust=toxic use a good mask to avoid breathing. Also, if you plan on painting, look into cleaning your parts before you build (to get dead bugs, mold release off (kits can sit for months/ years in a warehouse); I use a little dish soap in a big plastic tub with warm water and an old toothbrush, then rinse with warm water with a drop or two of Finish dishwasher rinse aid to speed up drying time and eliminate hard water spots. To dry, I tap on soft towels with gentle wipes to dry, then leave for 12-24 hours to make sure they are dry) Finally, if you can, invest in an ultra-sonic cleaner for a final pre-paint clean to get off any dust particles left from sanding. I also wear nitrile gloves to eliminate skin oils which may be overkill, better over than under. Threw a lot in there, sorry just a lot of info I found helpful along the way and that made big differences along the way. Happy building and I hope this was handy.

Exactly, it's a good enough replacement, but I'm sure you're hoping the Rasers turn up lol

I know this might be a commonly asked question but do these get worn out and give lower performance over time?
@aMillaGunpla
@aMillaGunpla 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed any degradation in any of my glass files, including the Siren. It's technically possible, but it will last exponentially longer than a typical standing stick/sandpaper

@@aMillaGunpla ok thanks, i was worried if i bought either the siren or the raser it would get unusable really quickly and be a waste of money

@@Jontini no problem! You can easily clean them off. For a Raser, I use an old toothbrush for like 2 seconds, and with the Siren you can use a cotton swab

Hi. Im new to this hobby and im learning too many things from your videos. Please make a video showing your full nub removal from cutting off the runner up to filing and polishing/buffing using godhand and your chosen file (raser or siren). Im still confused about the proper step-by-step of nub mark removal. More power to your channel!

Hi Froi, and welcome to the hobby! I actually have a video on this already, if you have any more questions after watching it, feel free to ask! kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHy5oYqlj8aVqpI

Older post, but still… Pitting links to the tools you show would be great. Including that brush. P.S. it’s useless when KZbinrs say “no link, just buy a good one”… To which I would say “if I KNEW which was ‘good’, I wouldn’t be watching your channel”

Do any of these glass files allow cleaning up transparent plastics while retaining their transluscence?
@aMillaGunpla
@aMillaGunpla Жыл бұрын
Yup, I used a glass file when building the Supreme RX-78-2, and it still retains the translucency. Still have to watch out for stress marks of course
