I was 13 when they killed off Gwen Stacey and it was a real shock to me because as a Peter I had quite a fan crush on her. 6 years later, at 19, when my own fiancé was killed in the horrific crash of American Airlines flight 191 outside of Chicago, just 5 days after we had become engaged I remembered how Parker felt cursed and jinxed as I felt the same way, unable to prevent the senseless death of the blonde girl I loved. I still have nightmares about my fiancé's death.

Yeah, Stan Lee made his character have alliterative names so it'd be easier to remember. Which is why Bruce Banner's full name is Robert Bruce Banner, because Stan forgot his name and called him Bob Banner for an issue. So he retconned it when someone asked.

+laz kar Fine. I believe he was in the heat of the moment. Meaning she was rushing to the ground at a high speed. He wasn't thinking about what would happen if he stopped her so suddenly. At the velocity she was falling and the sudden stop caused her to snap her neck. I believe he was just thinking about saving her. He didn't realise that stopping her right away would cause her death. With Mary Jane he learned his lesson and stopped her fall with 2 webs instead of 1. That's just my theory. What do you think?

I always thought it was better to leave the cause of death of Gwen Stacy a mystery because of the impact it had on Spider-Man and how it would haunt him for the rest of his life, because he would never know whether it was his attempt to save Gwen that killed her, or if she was already dead when he caught her. If I was Spider-Man it would certainly haunt me.

This death is now 100× heartbreaking cause of the clone conspirecey event where its revealed that during the fight between the goblin and Spidey Gwen was awake and heard everything she knew who Spider-man was and questioned why when she lived a good life while falling she couldn't continue her words. This death changed everything the impact is huge but sadly at the expense of a good character.

After watching this video, I think you could make an argument that the entire Spider-Man history leading up to Superior Spider-Man was Pete's life flashing before his eyes, hence the name Palmer in the first issue.

Bull. I don't care what the hack writers at Marvel say, Gwen Stacy was dead before Spider-man even got to the bridge to fight the Green Goblin. We never see her move or speak, she's just laying there the whole time. Spider-man never gets a chance to check on her to see if she's alright, and we have nothing to go on on than maybe the words of the Green Goblin to go off of that she's even alive. And if you believe and trust the Green Goblin, there's something seriously wrong with you. There's zero reason for a lunatic like the Green Goblin to just kidnap her and keep her alive, especially after Marvel introduced the very dumbe "Gwen and Norman were secret lovers!!!" storyline later down the line. When the Goblin knocked Gwen off, again, she wasn't moving, it was by hitting her with his glider...a vehicle capable of speeds great enough to rip Spidey off of concrete despite his adhesion abilities. If that blow didn't cause huge internal injuries alone to kill her, then she'd be dead shortly afterwards anyway. Gwen's neck may have indeed snapped, but IMO, that just made her...more dead...I guess. Sorry, I don't care what anyone says...even the staff at Marvel...Gwen was already dead.

Interesting theory, but the whole point of Amalgam Comics is to merge characters from both the Marvel and DC universes. Charles Xavier and Dr. Strange are both Marvel. Dr. Strangefate is an amalgamation of Dr. Strange, Charles Xavier, AND Dr. Fate from DC. Still, Amalgam Comics are super interesting!

The Gwen Stacey whiplash death was also confirmed in either Civil War: Iron Man or Civil War: Captain America (can't remember which one I was reading at the time) in the first issue when Iron Man and Cap are talking about the consequences of super beings using the powers without being trained.

The webbing may be the cause of Gwen's actual death, but I say it's still Goblin's fault. I think that we can all agree that if Peter had not taken his shot to try to save her, Gwen would still be dead. So there. It doesn't matter what caused her death. It's always more important WHO caused it.

There are a lot of terrible things that have happened to comic book heroes in general. From the death of Batman's parents in that alley to the death of Gwen Stacy. But not all of these tragic events involve death. There was a comic where Spiderman talks about how he was molested as a child by a man named Skip. The comic in question was an issue of "Spiderman and Power Pack".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with no place to anchor a net and with Gwen already presumably falling at terminal velocity, leaving Pete no time to swing in an arc to catch her, it was either death by whiplash or belly flop, and honestly the whiplash seems like the kinder death.

Also the web shouldn't have killed her. The webs aren't rigid like ropes, there stretchy, cause he sometimes uses it as a sling shot. Even though it's canon he killed her and I except that, it should have began slowing her, then bounced her back upwards cause it just got stretched. Even though it should actually be more like poles than anything else because if a spiders web was as thick as a rope it would be as strong as titanium but stickier its only cause it's really thin that it you can bend it.(Tho in the actual comic he says there's liquid cement at the end so that kinda confirms its not actual spiders web but his own formula made to be like spiders webs but he probably changed it to suit his needs cause if it was like a metal pole he just wouldn't be able to do half the stuff he does with it)

I have one for you : Why are some Marvel folk able to become controllable (somewhat) Gamma-ray mutates and others just flow bat-guano from it? Besides the main books for these characters, there was a throwaway line in a Marvel 90's Anthology called 'Marvel Super Heroes' where a Sentinel said most gamma mutates were related, a few generations back. Never spoken of again, but interesting. If we want to use the most irritating enraging retcon ever, could Gwen's overall health have been not at its peak, due to having recently given birth? No, forget I said that. Even JMS wanted to OMD 'Sins Past' - and in fact, he never wanted it to be that way at all.

I saw in The Osborn Journal that when Goblin took gwen to the Bridge & she was unconcious while he was fighting Spiderman,she awoke when he called him Peter. The shock of her now knowing her boyfriend as Spiderman was apparantly responsible for her father's death fighting the man who got her pregnant . Goblin knocked her off the bridge & killed her,so ahe was already dead by the time spidey tried to save her.

There was a What-If comic where Peter saved Gwen by jumping off the bridge after her, grabbing her, and putting his body between her and the water to cushion her fall. It was ironic, because Peter credited his knowledge of physics as ultimately saving Gwen.

I become interested, begin looking into the amalgam comics, find the only one where "Skulk" appears: Doctor Strangefate. Flash to now: Doctor Strangefate was an amalgam of Doctor Strange and Professor Charles Xavier, a man of science from the Marvel Universe. So, my guess is Charles Xavier.

In the 'sins past' storyline, did Gwen Stacy get pregnant against her will or voluntarily? Did she fall for Osborn and cheated on Peter? Did she lost her interest in Peter? I read The Amazing Spider-man up to issue 122 i.e. till Gwen Stacy's death. Don't know why I didn't continue. But in the issues I read, she seemed madly in love with Peter...... Good catch on the name mistake. I had to look it up to be sure. Interestingly, in the first half of that issue, they get his name right, Peter Parker--it's only in the second half that he's mistakenly called Palmer.

now in the amazing spiderman 2 Gwen dies so does that mean us comic book fans (being 2 movies in to the amazing spiderman series) still haven't had MJ as his girlfriend so were only in the amazing spiderman issue 121 which was in july of 1973. So the AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2 movie is still in 1973 not 2014 (when it came out). so does this mean that spiderman is in a universe where 2014 is just an alternate version of 1973?
