Dietary changes, to me are a normal journey. Everyone has different needs. I believe people should do the Carnivore diet for a year just to clean their system and heal their ailments. Once you've healed yourself, then slowly add in, like what you did. Then pick healthy carbs in moderation and listen to what your body needs. But if the person is not working out take it easy on the carbs.

Nobody is talking about the real deeper issue at hand. Which is this: US stomachs have a significantly lower variety of bacteria compared to all the rest of the word. There is a study done to the gut flora on Vietnamese immigrants before they arrived to the US, during their new life in the us, and MANY years after they arrived. They found out that over 50% of the guts bacteria they had when they lived in Vietnam disappeared and died. That bacteria they USED to have was what allowed them to EAT RICE WITHOUT BECOMING FAT and other carbohydrates. They also found out that the only food that people in the US were able to digest better (because the only bacteria left in their stomach could help then do that) was meat. Hence, the only reason we need to be almost full carnivore in the US is because they have oversprayed fruits and veggies with deadly components and over fed us antibiotics. The real profound conclusion about all of this is the following: if you want to eat a variety of food without having bad side effects you need to move out of the US because the excess of antibiotics and deadly pesticides like Glyphosate have changed the gut of our entire US population

After consuming about 50+ carnivore videos, my take is this: do carnivore for 30 to 180 days as an elimination diet. Reset the baselines.shed excess weight. Begin exercise. Then introduce 20g of carbs. Assess. 40g. Assess. Find level that makes sense. Introduce foods 1 at a time. Evaluate and assess. Eat only whole foods.

@@sharonbohannon1219 3 weeks later and I think this more so. Our goal SHOULD be to re-introduce carbs back into our life. Whether we can, is a different story. I absolutely am looking forward to bringing back a ton of fruit and vegetables BUT I am prepared to walk away as well. It's not about what I want; it's about what works. If fruits and veggies can work, then I absolutely want them. Carnivore is a tool; it's not my life.

That other discovery is the following: our fruits and vegetables have little to no nutritional value IN THE US, because of the over exploitation of farm land. Big Farm industry and Monsanto have literally eliminated the nutrients on most fruits and veggies. Everything is nutrient deficient in the US, except for meat. I’m planning to move out of here in the future because of the stomach issue and lack of variety in the gut. So I can eat a variety of food fruits and veggies without having terrible side effects

I have been on a keto diet for about 15 months. Even before I knew about keto, I developed leg cramps while eating lots of carbos (somewhere at age 78-80). Now on a keto diet, I still have that problem that requires me to use 4.5 g of potassium and 500 mg of magnesium daily. But, no more cramps. However, what keto did for me is here at age 85: - pre-diabetes gone - A1c is now 5.2 - I do not have to take blood pressure pills anymore - I lost 25 pounds - No more early down sweating - No more some pains I experienced for years- I can exercise every second day in a gym and walk long distances in between.

I'm not a doctor but as someone who has been metabolically sick for many years (I am 60), as well as being overweight, I have to say that the carnivore diet has been the best most healing way of eating that I have found. Not only have I lost 65 lbs. so far (10 months in) but I am no longer metabolically sick, no longer have bloating, swelling, joint pain , skin issues and insulin resistance or high blood sugar issues. My energy level has greatly increased and I feel better than I have in 2 decades. The best thing about starting the carnivore diet is that you see results very quickly as far as weight loss and you begin to feel better very quickly after the first week, which encourages you to keep going.

@@plantagenant I have done every diet under the sun and this was by far the easiest thing I have done and I have felt better than I have in years. You know you're having meat, so it takes all the pressure and guesswork out of eating. The first 2 weeks were the hardest, getting all the bad stuff out of my body, I felt tired so I slept more when possible. By the 3rd week I began to feel really great, more energy, getting clear headed. Just remember to use some electrolytes to help with cramping and drink more water. Higher carb foods contain more water than high fat high protein foods so it is easier to get dehydrated at first. Your body will adapt, just give it extra water, electrolytes, even a magnesium and potassium supplement until it does.

I am a full carnivore. Not only is it cheaper, by far, but there is a transition period that should be followed. I was in pretty good shape but found out that my body absolutely does not handle carbs well. In fact, I had to have a stint but in my neck. Then I researched and found out that there are plenty of high end athletes that have either died or had to have the same procedure done. I do believe that he has a very valid point about Linoleic Acid. I never really thought about it. Making the switch to full carnivore was thrusted upon me. It is no easy task. It’s a type of shock. Your body will adjust. I’m at two months as of last week. Best decision of my life. There is a price at the start for most. But not all. I am going to incorporate some carbs at some point to test this assertion by Paul. But not before I’m completely healed metabolically. Presently I lift to failure twice a week followed by dead-mill wind sprints. And mid week I start with dead-mill wind sprints followed by deadlifts. Mostly I eat once a day. Sometimes twice a day depending upon my body’s needs. I really do think Paul is onto something.

Possibly because gut microbes are being killed off by pesticides etc as well as by air and water pollution. Modern commercial farming practices are reducing the nutrients in food. The increase of ultra processed foods in the average diet has a negative impact. We generally are more inactive, has less appropriate sun exposure, more stress, less close relationships and use more chemicals on our skin, hair, nails etc . These all probably have a negative impact on our health.

I second what Sandra said. The first diet-related book I read that resonated with me was Eat Right 4 Your Type. We all have different body chemistry, blood type being a big factor. I’m not sure that Type A, who tend to have issues digesting red meat, would do well on a carnivore diet long-term. I have food allergies and sensitivity, one of which is to fructose specifically, so definitely honey is not an option and any time I have tried to juice anything (mainly veggies with maybe a green apple added), it always just went right through me. So I don’t see adding fruit as an option- but I don’t surf or do that level of activity, so I won’t need as many calories.

About 5 years ago I started breaking out with skin rashes. Got to the point I had rashes from head to toe. I went to a couple doctors, they couldn't figure out what was going on..they were about to diagnose me with an autoimmune disease, when I decided to take things in my own hands. I went to the Lord and prayed. I told the Lord, ok heavenly Father you made me, you know everything about me, what is going on? Why is my body doing this? What should I do to stop it? And the Lord immediately answered.. it wasn't two seconds after that prayer I heard loud and clear sugar and yeast. So I immediately stopped eating sugar and stopped eating yeast. (Not bread or carbs) Just anything with yeast in it. Within 24 hours all my rashes stopped itching and with 4 days all my rashes were completely gone. I have continued to watch my intact of sugar and yeast and to this day my rashes have never returned.

I started to do carnivore diet not because of the insulin resistance but because of the bacteria overgrowth in my stomach(low stomach acid). I had other symptoms that align with EONutrition theory of B1 deficiency. Some gut lacto bacteria can produce B1. But apparently if people are missing it they develop this deficiency. So I was producing alcohol w my stomach whenever I was eating carbs. Here carnivore diet was helpful because it reduced bacteria overgrowth. I saw improvements with my joints as well. Now I started William Devis yogurt. And the symptoms I’m experiencing are also interesting. My joints symptoms first got worse, now they are getting better. I’m also experiencing a lot if detoxing symptoms like my body is actively fighting an infection. And I’m starting to think. What if all these so called leaky gut symptoms is just bacteria overgrowth in different parts of the body? So when you start supplementing w good bacteria it fights the bad one hence systemic inflammation.

Just watching this, and THIS is what I have been saying for a long time hearing all this from the Carnivore community. It's not the FOOD that hurts us, it's what's been DONE to the food, that hurts us. People used to eat a regular old diet, including bread, potatoes, meat, veggies, and probably a slice of cake or pie, and people weren't really ever fat. They also weren't sitting on their asses all day, looking at a screen. They walked a lot, they also ate more pure, un-messed with food. There wasn't fast food on every corner, and that is the solution. Eat pure, organic, unprocessed food, avoid seed oils, and keep moving.

@Paul Saladino, while I respect your approach to incorporating fruit and honey into an animal-based diet, I think there’s an important aspect not fully considered: fruit hybridization and the historical rarity of these foods. Modern fruits are hybridized to be much sweeter than their wild counterparts. Historically, wild fruits like blackberries, blueberries, and apples were much smaller, more fibrous, and far less sweet. For example, modern blueberries have about 54% more sugar than their wild counterparts, with cultivated varieties focusing on sweetness by breeding out bitter and sour compounds rather than increasing sugar content alone. Even mangoes and other fruits you might grow locally are significantly hybridized from their ancestral forms. You also mentioned honey, but I believe it’s important to recognize that finding honey in the wild would have been rare for early humans. Wild hives are typically built high in trees or cliffs, making honey an occasional find rather than a regular food source. I experienced the effects of modern fruit firsthand this summer when my A1c levels rose into pre-diabetic ranges due to consuming hybridized fruits apples, bananas and mandarins. The reality is, modern fruits often lead to higher insulin spikes than the seasonal, lower-sugar fruits early humans would have encountered. My typical diet, before this experiment with fruit, has been low in carbohydrates and primarily meat-based. This long-standing approach had worked well for me in maintaining stable blood sugar levels. However, this summer’s experiment with fruit intake brought unexpected changes in my metabolic health. Additionally, elevated insulin in the bloodstream, particularly when it remains high for long periods, can cause serious health issues. Chronic elevated insulin contributes to insulin resistance, where cells become less responsive to insulin, leading to more insulin production and worsening blood sugar regulation. This can result in inflammation, especially in the endothelial lining of blood vessels, increasing the risk for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and other metabolic disorders. The lingering effects of insulin also promote fat storage and block fat burning, making it harder to maintain a healthy metabolic state. While fruits can be part of a balanced diet, it's crucial to recognize that the modern varieties, even in places like Costa Rica, are very different from the fruits our ancestors consumed. I believe a more cautious approach to modern fruit consumption is needed, particularly when considering their impact on insulin and overall metabolic health.

I totally agree with the Linoleic fatty acid concept. My mother used ‘heart-healthy’ unnatural seed oils all my childhood, & I used them too for well over 30 years until I came to understand how nasty they were. For several years I would use them to fry chips/fries in an electric fryer using ‘vegetable’ oil - usually either rapeseed or sunflower. The stuff would go hard like varnish on the fryer & was almost impossible to remove! (Varnish was traditionally made from boiled linseed (flax) oil, so that figures). Whilst saturated fats like lard & tallow will just melt when heated & then resolidify, seed oils change property when heated. If they do that on a fryer, what the heck is that varnish doing to our cells……?? Thank you for this interview. It has cemented more understanding about this, & more motivation to do things to get these horrible clogging fats right out of my diet completely & out of my poor congested cells. It also explains my years of chronic fatigue & compromised mitochondria………

One of the few diets that they have many decades of research on is the ketogenic diet. It has been used for decades to prevent seizures in children with epilepsy. What they find in these children is after being in ketosis for many, many years is that they develop malabsorption, kill off the gut microbiome and start developing early onset osteoporosis, kidney and liver problems and colon problems. It is truly sad. I think you are 100% correct. Keto or Carnivore might be good in the short term for people with type 2 diabetes and to lose weight, but in the long term it can cause significant problems.

I am a diabetic who doesn't use medication but has spent the last two years controlling my diabetes with a low carb diet. My diet started with 3 months of strict carnivore, then moved into keto/low carb. My diet has remained mostly beef/egg/animal protein heavy supplemented with vegetables, non-sweet fruits and occasional nuts/dairy. Over the last two years I have developed kidney stones (my CT scan 2 years ago showed no stones). The one in my left kidney is so large that it can't be passed and the doctor says I need it surgically removed. Apparently the uric acid from excessive amounts of animal protein is the culprit. However, the doctor has advised me to drink 4 oz of lemon juice (diluted in lots of water) each day to prevent more stones. I've also reduced the amount of animal protein I'm consuming.

I think Paul makes a very good observation about seed oils! But it is not just the quantity that matters! It also matters to what level of contamination takes place within the 'industrial' process! I understand that by the end of each process, the product has already become oxidised and so additives are used to 'freshen' the oil! However, an oxidised oil is an oxidised oil and that process of oxidation is what is bad (that is my understanding of the process). As for myself personally: I'm classed as T2 diabetic (25 years) but I'm slim, walk 4 miles per day, exercise on a night and follow a very low carb diet! But if I have any pastry my BS goes through the roof! I am not LADA according to tests 3 years ago but I am almost certain that my problem must be that I am not producing enough insulin!

It always seems to come back to taking a balanced view of ancestral diet. I believe there is a lot to be said for keto and carnivore - but it has to be seen in a context of ancestral diet and ancestral lifestyle. Carnivore influencers seem to ignore the likely 20 to 30% of ancestral diet which was plant based. They also ignore that evolution only informs us on fitness after about age 45. They also ignore other ancestral lifestyle factors which influence the the way in which diet acted - like circadian rhythms, light exposure, exercise patterns, toxins, social engagement. We can't replicate an ancestral lifestyle, which means that ancestral diet may not have some of the effects contended for in the absence of other lifestyle factors. Ancestral diet had seasonal fruit, mushrooms, phytonutrient dense meat from ruminant animals, fibre rich resistant starch. Ancestral lifestyle had way more sun exposure which set our digestive clock. Use of glyphosate on grain which finds its way into grain fed meat, destroys our enzymes which metabolise sulphur - this interferes with the production of cholesterol sulphate (needed to protect the skin from sun damage) and interferes with the formation of structured water which then causes cardiovascular problems. So, seasonal consumption of fruit is likely ok, together with much greater exercise.

When I am in central Mexico, or Nicaragua I can consume all the carbs that I want without any negative effects. I believe that it’s the massive levels of vitamin D. We mostly walk and spend a lot of time in the sun. I believe that location is a huge part of what your body can process.

Every day, the scientific community presents more conflicting evidence about carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, making it increasingly challenging for the average person to determine the right diet. Clearly, living with insulin sensitivity is not metabolically healthy, and we need to make adjustments to manage it effectively. I've recently viewed several videos featuring centenarians who offer substantial evidence-based advice on their long lives. Their secrets to longevity aren't solely based on consuming fruits and vegetables or following restrictive diets like carnivore, Atkins, Paleo, etc. While some are vegetarians, most maintain a balanced diet and enjoy all kinds of foods, even those considered unhealthy, in moderate quantities without overindulging. Having been a vegetarian for many years, I never truly felt healthy, which led me to revert to a more varied diet. Now, I consume a range of foods in smaller, moderate portions. This has helped me maintain my weight, feel significantly healthier, and keep a normal waistline.

On carnivore, I suffered from the whole list of cramps, heart palpitations, light sleep and weird falling dreams. Also weakness, while Trying to cure fatty liver. Had to add about 15 grams of carb back in and also supplement with Ketochow minerals. I admire your grace and courage to stand your ground. I was relieved when I saw your videos, raw honey has been a joy to have back in my diet.

This is very interesting, Omega-6 fatty acids can influence lipid metabolism and insulin signaling pathways. Suggesting high levels of certain omega-6 fatty acids, particularly AA, can lead to the production of pro-inflammatory molecules, which may contribute to the development of insulin resistance.

I think this guy has good points about raw dairy and food and bad seed oils but he is missing the fact is unique living in an unpolluted area getting much infrared and ultraviolet from sunshine, he gets more than average exercise and sea salt and unprocessed food ie lives in an ideal environment which is not typical for us that live in polluted cities work indoors and only have access to processed foods, BIG DIFFERENCE.

Same thing happened to me. I was following Carnivore for over 8 years but struggled especially in the last couple of years to digest the protein, regardless of what I tried. Eventually, not only did my digestion throw in the towel & refuse to digest protein any longer (had to make myself vomit to get rd of the last meat that had been stuck in my stomach for hours & hours), but my insulin resistance went into orbit & not even heaps of insulin could get it down to anywhere near normal. It was like the insulin was hardly working. I had also gained well over 30lbs more during the LC foray, too. Never lost any weight at all. Defeated, I had no option but to go plant-based. I just juiced veg/greens & some fruit for the first month. Whilst my BG stayed high for most of the month, probably as my body was clearing out ectopic fat, suddenly my BG started to drop, my insulin sensitivity returned & I had to radically cut my insulin intake by more than half (50+ units to just 20 or even less, despite all the carbs). I also lost some of the extra weight. For me, it’s fats & oils that drive my insulin resistance & weight gain, not (natural) carbs. I am able to digest some animal protein now, but do consume a higher amount of plant foods because my body needs the potassium, magnesium & other minerals. Being overweight & diabetic has meant that I don’t retain Mg & K+ very well anyway so getting plenty of natural carbs is important for me. I don’t fear spikes either……. What I realised was that Carnivore didn’t actually reverse my insulin resistance, it merely maintained it because my carb intake was so low. But eating carbs & keeping the fat very low actually restored my insulin sensitivity. I can understand people recovering on the rice diet for instance because there is no lipids to block insulin uptake into the cells.

@@jeanniewhite3450 Five years ago I started out on keto. I wanted to optimize my health after seeing some signs of dementia and I have lost 70 pounds. Then a year and a half ago I went carnivore currently I am still basically carnivore optimizing my protein to build back muscle that I lost and therefore am lifting weights three times a week. To answer your question for me, I am eating grass fed beef, pasture raised eggs, pretty much all animal food, and all the good fats like real butter, tallow. Making my own bone broth I have just started incorporating most fruits and raw honey because your mitochondria will make more energy from glucose than fat. I am 70 years old. I am still learning how to be more healthy, but nothing matters if you don't optimize your sleep.

When I cut sugar out of everything, except some berries, and ate a healthy whole food diet of 1 carb portion (example eggs & veggies in butter 1/2 cup gf organic oats & then dinner sweet potato, some chicken or steak & salad, the weight melted off. I even did a lunch as well. No snacking in between. Processed food & sugar in foods were a big problem.
