Great video! Cars, as much as I love them/mine, are indeed money pits. Depreciation, interest, maintenance/repairs, parking, etc. Seriously considering going car free, keep DL w/ non-owners insurance, bad weather lyft/uber, all other needs for a car just rent. Another consideration: opportunity cost. Take 6k of that savings/year, put in a roth IRA, 30 years later , 6% return= big bucks.

Good point about the investment loss! Thank you for the support.

U have such a natural and feet-on-the-ground aproach to presentation that u almost sound like a Tai Chi instructor or u know, the like :D i ride my bike to work and am currently just waiting for my car to 'drop-dead' if that is a correct metaphore so I don't really know what I gain in watching your videos, but your presentation is just magnificient and fun to watch :D U have such good argumentation that would u ever consider 'writing a presentation' to present to some big money men in how to urban develop cities in mind with cyclists/walkers and how it would increase the benefits and well being of communities? (I believe I i saw more about this in Ted-Talks.) ...or just give presentations in schools/communities about the great subject. Or some bicycle-advocation ... advocacy? It would be really interesting to see how you'd fare in there ! Btw. just a quick question what does your channel-name have to do with bicycles? xD

Thank you so much! It is comments like these that keep me going and stay inspired to help people. I occasionally think about what I can do on a larger scale and have some plans for future endeavors. I also do local things to help push things in the right direction. I find mostly it is the residents that derail positive change, not the politicians or the government officials. LA Metro is amazing, for example. Regarding your question on the Channel name, it has several levels. I like the viewers to superimpose their own ideas of what it means. :)

@@ShermanSitter Thanks for your reply! :D From what I gather it's a question about sentiment rather than being analytical. So in it can be rather difficult to convince the people when they're on a 'different channel' about things. But in regardless thanks for your videos and just doing u. :D

Automobile insurance is expensive because it is worth it; that is, the damage caused by crashes is so great as to command nearly $2000 per year. I should know; my Kia Forte was recently hit on by two drivers hitting each other on a stroad and then careening into my car. Seven people involved, three ambulance rides, three cars completely destroyed, and even my minorly damaged car had $1000 worth of damage. The two original drivers were uninsured. That was easily $250,000 worth of damage. When was the last time a bicycle collision caused $250,000 worth of damage? More importantly, eScooters causing far less damage are getting banned everywhere, but expensive driver collision don't result in cars being banned?

I've become disabled and have lost my truck and motorcycle because I can't afford the insurance on them with no tickets or DUIs . I started building motorized 2 stroke bicycles for my own transportation . It took some trial and error to make it reliable but I've gotten it down to where I can build a complete reliable motorized bicycle for around $350.00 that get 100 mpg with no insurance or registration required . My city isn't bicycle friendly ( even though it gets grant money for it ) so the ride is much more treacherous than anything out there with 2 wheels on it . I get people recording me with their phones twice a week and not realizing that they are putting me in danger ! While this mode of transportation is mostly dangerous due to David and Goliath it's greatest danger is ignorance . The cell phone is the biggest enemy on the road

I don’t understand why people are so Opposed to commuting by bike if cycling has so many positive benefits to it
@ShermanSitter4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand either! My best guess is habit and momentum. It's hard to start, but once you start, it's hard to stop. Fear and varying abilities to change seem to be large factors as well.

You should speak about the dark side of owning a bicycle or real cost of owning a bicycle too.
@ShermanSitter5 жыл бұрын
I actually looked into that and have an upcoming video to address this. It's really hard to find negative things from bicycling that can't be refuted with logic and research.

@@ShermanSitter Yes most of the issues with cycling have solution. I look forward to it.
@langhamp89125 жыл бұрын
The dark side is you get run over by a driver who is too exhausted to move his steering wheel 1 degree to the left. 100% of drivers who run over bicyclists say the bicyclist swerved in front.
@MisterSal98955 жыл бұрын
@@langhamp8912 That is definitely the biggest one. The second big one is a bastard stealing ones bike.

Another Dark side is any city that gets grant money to be bicycle friendly yet is not . I almost got hit the other day ( nothing new ) but in this instance the guy pulled over not far from where he almost killed me . My first question was did he not think my life had any value ? Then he told me he wasn't that close to me . I asked him what he did for a living and he told me he was a firefighter ! My head almost exploded , I told him he should know better !!!!! Another point . They are doing a short ( maybe one mile ) rail to trail conversion here ( where there haven't been rails in many decades ) and the price is astronomical !!! I'm an enthusiast , we need the trail but not for the price of a train !
