Alright guys, what did you think? Were these figures higher or lower than you were expecting for San Francisco living?

Where did you find your apartment? I am moving to SF in a month from the UK and I would love some tips on how to search for a place.
@lilychu89123 жыл бұрын
@@endlesssoundscapes5284 Craigslist started in SF so it's a free way to find space/ roommates. If you go to corporate apartment websites, the prices of course are usually higher. If you don't need a lot of sun/ don't mind a bit of a commute (keep in mind SF is only 7 miles by 7 miles in total), the neighborhoods with less sunlight - like the Outer Sunset - are cheaper. But you can just go a few miles within SF and there is sun regularly. Also head 20 minutes south to the Peninsula or east to Oakland and we're basically sunlit year around (70 degrees and sunny where I'm at) even when SF is foggy/ cold.

So, it's nice to watch a video like yours and realize the other perks that might bring the living cost down. Thank you and stay safe and happy!! 🥰🥰

Good for you! I'm looking at this for a relative who doesn't believe it when I tell them too many articles, videos, etc. on San Francisco overestimate the amount of $$ it takes to live here. You're right housing is the priciest expense (I own my own place having come here year ago) but even with that, there are multiple ways to save. Because CA produces much of the US' produce, etc. if you learn to cook and shop selectively, you can get even organic, high-quality produce, milk, etc. for reasonable prices. And the weather is fine enough year around that outdoor activities can be done even in winter.

I'm from India 🇮🇳 I really didn't know that cost of living in San Francisco will be this much expensive, here in India the rents are so much cheap, for 2 bedroom house the average rent cost is around 20000 Rupees that means only 260 dollars!!

My wife and I have a fun money budget too. While I do get up to about 3 lunches covered a week at work, I can buy lunch if I need it with this money or buy what I want. She ended up saving hers and bought a Microsoft Surface Pro with it and it was like a mini savings plan. Super nice to see other couples doing this too.

I eat all of my meals at work. At the end of the day they let us take home any leftovers if we want. Most people do not. I take the leftovers home and my wife brings it for her lunch the following day. She will eat the day old bagel or pastries. This helps us to save money on food. I know it is not for everyone though.

To get a studio is like a race. Studio apartments always run out first so once something is available act on it quickly. I've live in the Bay Area since 2006 and studio apartments there go by quick. One day there is an opening the next day its gone.

I'm surprised about the difference between food and rent. For example, I'm living in a countryside of Venice, Italy and I spend 400 Euro for food and 500 Euro for rent... the figure is almost equal. Stranger that in San Francisco supermarket the price is so low. Here chicken, eggs and milk are more expensive than there.

I dont think San Fran is the world's most expensive city. I'm pretty sure Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo are all most expensive. Paris might even but more.

Hi Josh, can you please answer me some questions? I am Brazilian and I study financial management college in Brazil. I really like this area of technology, but do you think that even if I do not have a diploma in this area, companies will be interested? Just another doubt sorry, I also think a lot about entering this area because of the money, if college is not something that prevents me from being hired, what languages would you recommend me to learn and which way would be "faster" to get a job and earn good money? I'm sorry if the questions seemed superficial and if there is a grammatical error in the text (I used Google translator)

Would you say most people in SF spend 60% to 70% on housing?
@JoshandKatie4 жыл бұрын
Housing is typically the largest expense for people living in San Francisco. The median household income is around $112K a year and the average monthly rent is $3600. It is tough to focus on averages though, because the income inequality here is insane!! A few years into a tech career, it isn’t uncommon to be making $300K- 400K a year in total compensation.

@@JoshandKatie Also do you think because of these large salaries it's driving the rent market up too? Or if you're making that much you'd have purchased by now.

Definitely driving the rent market up with those high tech salaries! Homes are so expensive here and can be unattainable even for high salary tech workers.
