Hace más de 50 años, mi madre viajó a USA. Como regalo le pedí un disco (LP) de jazz tradicional y, así, conocí a los Dukes. Es increíble, que después de más de medio siglo pueda verlos en acción...

When I was in the 4th grade my DAD took me to see the DUKES OF DIXIELAND and right after he bought me a trombone! A few yeas later the BEATLES were on ED SULLIVAN and I wanted a guitar! I still love this music and I still have my trombone but I play guitar and piano! LOVE THIS OLD FOOTAGE of them as it brings back an old beautiful memory! thanks

Sure will. Hey check out my music here if you feel like it as all my tunes are free on you tube and I have over 125 tracks. I have 3 trombone tunes too: YOUR LOVE FOR ME - IN FLIGHT - and LAND ON YOUR FEET all feature the TROMBONE which I still love! LAND ON YOUR FEET has 2 versions so look for the one where I am with my guitar outside!

Hi Deano, I am sitting here in San Francisco with Pat Yankee who is telling me about how honored she was to have the Dukes in the audience on opening night for her gig at the Riveria Hotel in Vegas with her band, Pat Yankee and Her Sinners. Small world. Thank you so much for posting this. I am writing Pat's biography and having this extra dimension really brings the story alive. Headed to your FB page next! Thank you.

I saw the Dukes many times as a child, as my Uncle Harold Cooper played clarinet with them for many years; he was my father Howard Cooper's twin brother. I am so glad you put this great and timeless music on here! Thanks, Deano! It really takes me back.

I remember Harold very well. He was in the band in the mid 50's for a few years then again in the early 70's up until the time of my dad's death in Feb. 1974. We have a facebook page you may enjoy facebook.com/therealdukesofdixieland/# plus a website www.thedukesofdixieland.com

That looks like Jack Maheu on clarinet, not Harold Cooper.

On that particular video, it isn't Uncle Harold. He played with them off and on from the 50's through the 70's. He is not on every album they made.

I first heard the Dukes in 1955 when I was still in high school and was just astonished. I was in the high school band and played tenor sax at the time. I've enjoyed their music from that day to this..and I'm 72 years old...They brought me a lot pleasure over the years. The best there ever was.

I first became aware of the Dukes in the late 50's when I was still in high school. I played the sax in our high school band and it helped me appreciate the musicianship displayed by these amazing guys....I'm an old man now and I STILL love the DUKES ! I mean the REAL Dukes, not poseurs who came later.

I really dig the driving sound of this band. The trumpet player has a wonderful and unique style. I like how in many of the tunes this band plays, the trumpet player ends each song in similar fashion. Hard to explain what I mean but as of the trumpet trills the last note. Duke Heitger seems like he models his style after the trumpet player in this band.

Saw the Dukes in San Antonio, Tx. three times in the early sixties. As a former trumpet player I could very much admire Frank Assuntos' approach to the trumpet. I in particular loved the way he had mastered the lip trill!

DON'T BE CONFUSED...It is a fact that Frank and Freddie Assunto created and led the #1 Jazz Band in America from the early 1950's through early 1974 known as The Dukes of Dixieland. They played and recorded with all the greats of their time and also appeared on numerous TV shows from the 1950's through the 1960's. Their untimely deaths, Freddie in 1966 (36) and Frank in 1974 (42), ended the reign of the Dukes of Dixieland. Decades later, on June 15, 2000, the Estate of Frank Assunto was forced to bring legal action to prevent the unauthorized use of the Assunto Brothers' musical legacy and accomplishments by various individuals and/or entities. The facts of this case are public record in the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Division "E," Case # 2000-9440.So now the fact is very straight forward, after Frank Assunto's death in 1974, no one using the Assunto legacy or the name Dukes of Dixieland has ever had any connection to the Assunto Brothers or their Dukes of Dixieland (even though in the past it had been advertised otherwise). As such, the Assunto Family regrets if anyone has been misled in any way as we have no control over the actions of others. We can only hope that after the conclusion of our legal actions which ended in October 2011, there should be no further confusion or misrepresentation of the Assunto Brothers or their Dukes of Dixieland. If by chance after October 2011 you feel you've been misled in anyway please feel free to contact the Assunto Family.God Bless and Thank You for being a fan of the Original Dukes of Dixieland and the Assunto Family.
