And that kinda upsets me that the content of the episode isn't better. What I find the most hilarious about this, is how exactly your comments in the first few minutes precisely match my own thoughts upon re-watching this episode yesterday for the first time in almost 30 years. I had always remembered this as one of my favorite episodes, or at least one of the more memorable ones from what I considered the second half of the series. However, I could never remember how “sam hain” got out of the containment unit within the first few minutes of the show. Now I see why. I must have immediately completely mentally edited out the junior Ghostbusters and Slimer from this episode. I had no memory of them being in it at all, which basically eliminates the whole first 10 minutes. So in my mind, it jumped right to him getting out of the containment unit. LOL Upon re-watching, this went from one of the episodes I thought that I remembered liking the most, to one I wish I had never seen ever. Another major inconsistency-as if consistency mattered by this point-didn’t we learn in Mrs. Rogers’ Neighborhood, that the containment unit required the voice print of one of the main four guys in order to access the controls? I know they violated this numerous times throughout the series, but in an episode like this, it is even more glaringly a problem than usual. Plus I grew up loving containment unit episodes, as I watched the show initially and primarily because of the pseudoscience and was a huge Egon fan, so this one was particularly painful.

20:18 Presumably with all the ghosts heading towards the Ghostbusters, Samhain's powers weakened enough for him to drop the shield. This is why he was sucked back into the containment unit so easily. He's pretty powerful on his own, bu having all those ghosts at his disposal makes him that much stronger. Yes, the key stone falling was the unit being opened back up and sucking them all back in. It was sure nice to see the goblins finally get blasted after getting away clean in the first episode.

Q5 were also the people behind "All-New Pound Puppies", the second season of the Pound Puppies that had various strange-ass changes. I remember them popping up on Boomerang mixed with the season 1 episodes and being confused as hell. "... to introduce _Slimer & The Junior Ghostbusters."_ That... could actually have been a decent spinoff idea in order to implement the ideas Q5 shoved into the network executives' heads. Certainly better than destroying The Real Ghostbusters and making that separate Slimer show, and it would mean having the Junior Ghostbusters as lead characters in their own right rather than aggressively intruding on the show that is supposed to be about the Ghostbusters. It's kinda weird they _had_ to make the car body PVC piping. It's probably a better way to make it than with wooden boards (as long as the pipes are fastened properly and not just plugged together), and it looks better, too. I Google Translated some of the Japanese on Egon's diagram of the tower, and it appears there's things like "I have a ghost" (I think labeling the entrance) and "It's good for pumpkin" (labeling the top, maybe where Sam Hain likes to be?) on the first set of labels, some things about colours in the second set of labels, including light blue, blue, dark brown, and red, and the last set of labels has the exclamations "Crazy...!", "YA AHH STOP", "Please!", and "A... I-- feel good!". The labels on the firehouse diagram just after the tower seems to have "I'm glad I'm wrinkled" (I'm guessing one of the words was perhaps spaced incorrectly or had phonetically-written English, because that can't be right, can it?), just "YAAHOOO !!", and "that's it" (queue crumpling paper?). These whimsical margin doodles don't seem like the kind of thing Egon would have written; maybe Ray drew the graphic for him.

Are you kidding? This episode had some fantastic ideas in it! Samhain's restructured firehouse fortress gained its power from the mystical configuration of its shape, people coating themselves with ectoplasm to temporarily allow themselves to ethereally travel through matter. I was 12 when this episode first aired and I loved it, and I still do. The Junior Ghostbusters never bothered me at all, because OF COURSE the Ghostbusters would have fanclubs of nerdy kids all over the place wanting to emulate them. That was true in real life! It wasn't like the Ghostbusters took them out on jobs with them, they were just a fanclub that was lucky enough to be local so the guys kind of adopted them as mascots.
