Funny, I've never even been to New York and that was also my first thought. I know it's not common with all accents but it seems to be a something of a recurring thing with distinctive regional accents. Being the kind of omni-nerd I am, I'd genuinely be fascinated to see people with backgrounds in linguistics and neurology contribute to a video essay explaining it. It feels like your more advanced but much slower prefrontal cortex might be part of the brain committee that tones down regional accents so an angry or upset response might slip by before it noticed? Just a _very_ poorly-educated guess.

It's kind of like when Australians get hired to work in movies or TV shows in the U.S., or when they're just not playing to a predominately Australian audience (Steve Irwin, etc)... their Australian accent reaches an almost Simpsons-level of comedic over-the-topness. Sometimes they're doing it on purpose, I guess, but a lot of the time I think it just naturally happens. (I'm Australian, BTW. Went to school in the U.S. for a few years and my nickname was "Fosters"...)

This series definitely had a lot of potential and I agree with some oh Phelous's critiques and yeah Egon should have been used more,since it seems like a bad idea to give proton packs to 4 college students who don't have any experience in this field. Things that could've made extreme a bit better Have the first part of the series be Egon training the new group so they be better equipped for dealing with Ghosts. As the series Egon gives them the choice to leave if they want because they are just kids in College,which gives a nice dynamic between the team and Egon since wouldn't want to deprive any of them a normal life. Have Eduardo grow more as Ghost Buster. Expand more on the world Extreme is set in and for the crossover have one of the original members try to give the kids some words of wisdom.Maybe have a dynamic between Peter and Eduardo,Eduardo is slightly jealous of Peter and Peter thinks Eduardo isn't cut out for this job which brings back what I said would help the series Eduardo growing more as a Ghost Buster and grow into more of a hero. Sorry if I brought this up I just felt like saying what I think could've helped Extreme as a series.

I know they wanted to emphasize the idea that someone in a wheelchair didn't need a bunch of additional assistance to succeed with the rest, but I still would've liked to see some good use of new equipment, especially being in a chair with his character traits. Whether or not that was intentional is beyond me, given the guy is neither very funny or that good of a voice actor (see his take on Felix the Cat for further reference) Really makes it hard to appreciate even the better written lines. It really wouldn't be so hard to get over, except for the fact that every other human character at least talks like a normal person. Is there really nobody in the studio at the time who heard this?
@PetaHatingChris428 жыл бұрын
+BlackBeWhite2k7 To be fair though, Coulier did sound a lot more like Bill Murray than Lorenzo Music did, but Music's voice was always more fun to listen to.
@BlackBeWhite2k78 жыл бұрын
Chris C. I kinda don't hear it, to be honest...but that's probably because Bill's best humor is normally very laid back and dry in it's delivery, much like Lorenzo Music's. Coulier's always sounds like he's trying way to hard to get a laugh out of really young children, which feels even more out of place given the tone Extreme Ghost-busters was going for.

I am going to try and explain the "Ghost of a Ghost" thing. Slimer's body is ectoplasm that is formed around his spirit self. If the new evil ghost were to push the spirit part of Slimer out of the ectoplasm body then it could occupy that ectoplasm. HOWEVER, the ectoplasm should reform around Slimer's spirit like it does when he gets smashed or passes thru a wall. Maybe the evil ghost has the ability to lock spirits out of whatever ethereal field that ectoplasm is formed from. Working in higher dimensions, like lifting someone out of a maze and putting them in a cage overlooking it. They are not in the maze, but can see it.

I'm not a super-fan of the show or anything but I do remember liking it as a kid and I think you hit the nail right on the head on its strengths and weaknesses. Maybe one day people will learn from the various incarnations of the show and make a new one that updates the concepts while still staying true to the spirit of the original and most importantly, will have as much attention for detail as the original. And hopefully THIS time they'll allow the show to have the dead remain dead and have their ghosts be bloody ghosts!

In regards to the Eduardo's scientist line. There is maybe one or two times this is said where it's played more like the fact he isn't is part of the joke like when he accidentally shoots his proton stream after saying it. The rest of the time it is straight up used as a strange qualifier for their actions like the original Peter line without any hint of irony about it. In fact in the episode Back in the Saddle Peter mentions failing a few times in college didn't stop him from being a scientist and then he and Eduardo exchange a knowing smile. If you don't want to believe me watch the scenes again where he says that for the context of how it's used.

I remember liking this show back in the day. Suddenly after seeing this video, my thoughts on it have kind of altered slightly. I like the idea of bringing in a new young group, and that concept would have made for a great third movie, instead of the reboot that Paul Feig will be shitting out. I think what really lost me with EGB was the lack of any decent humor. Both movies and RGB had a perfect balance of comedy and darkness. EGB was clearly more heavy on the darkness, which I don't mind too much, but come on. It's Ghostbusters. There should be a good balance.

I think many of the issues you mentioned might have been worked out if the show had gotten more than 40 episodes. Had it gotten another season or two, I'm sure that the team would've gone up against more classic baddies from RGB like Samhain. As for the question of why Eduardo stuck around on the team despite his apathy towards the paranormal, I like to believe that he DID plan to leave after the pilot, but changed his tune after seeing the check from the team's first "regular" bust.

An interesting idea brought up in one of the recent IDW ghost buster comic cross over between the real Ghost busters and IDW ghost busters is that not only are the Real ghost busters and IDW are set in different universes but so are the 88 Ghost Buster's and Extreme, it's even implied that Extrame Ghost busters is a different universe all together than Real. Although how that works when Extreme and Real do share some ( it's not much ) but some conterunity. So maybe in the Extreme verse the Real ghost busters had less of an impact, perhaps after Gozar the ghosts didn't appear as much as in the real series. But that's just a guess on my part

Being born in the 90s and only allowed a minimal amount of tv when I was younger, this was actually my very first exposure to Ghostbusters and it made me want to be a ghostbuster. Watching the ghostbusters movie for the first time, I was disinterested somewhat in seeing the egon, ray, peter, and winston and not the extreme team. But now I could appreciate both, but this series will always have a special place in my heart. And wow, is that Raimundo's voice who plays the rebel of the group? I hear it sometimes so if it's not, whoops...and Fry...sure could make pet sounds. Alfonso I never realized, despite being a huge Fresh Prince fan and a contemporary show I would watch it but given how he was mostly passed over, I guess it is forgivable. Of course Tara is a walking library of voices, you never could tell. But omg, it's Tino!!! :D that one surprised me most of all as it is among my favorite sounding voices. Well, later days.

And XGB was more on grounded and environment ad now when watching and seeing games slimer is less annoying and more enjoyful then what frustrated annoyment over he was in rgb i seen. Like far too much already many at worst i been to over at that. I mention it somewhere that point but i thought of it but actually fitting , It's already good as it's own and that wuld be not cool out plus this series is already like i mention to smeone. The show was also noted for being aimed at "a slightly more adolescent audience with a tougher edge", "clearly intended to test the boundaries of horror" and the pushed the edges of the ratings. Besides that easily that rgb was there like any that other many episodes thst was no differ same ssets over Q5 would be.

"Are you calling me a daisy?" Translation: "Are you calling me gay?" Why is Gary in a wheelchair?
@derrickhaggard5 жыл бұрын
Concerning why Garret is in a wheelchair it was revealed in the episode that had the team dealing with a evil leprechaun who supposedly sealed away Garret's good luck and skills in leadership, strategy, and use with the proton pack that he was originally the star player of the basketball team at the university him, Eduardo, Roland, and Kylie went to but he was later caught in a car accident that resulted in the other driver getting killed but Garret survived but at the cost of being paralyzed in both of his legs with 0% chance of being able to walk again and for a while Garret carried the guilt with him along with a belief that being wheelchair-bound will result in him losing his ability to do sports along with him losing his ability to function in society but he later forgave himself along with learning how to play sports and function in society while wheelchair bound he revealed this to Egon during a heart-to-heart with his mentor who gave some useful advice that gave Garret his confidence back which allowed him to save the rest of the team from the evil leprechaun.

Winston is the perfect foil to the rest of the GBs because he could explain the technobabble of the other members. He was also key in providing a simple, effective solution when the others were overanalyzing the situation. I've heard folks call him the least of the members and I believe they're a bunch of idiots because they don't look into his character enough. I think it's pretty plain when watching the first two film's.

Yeah! Great to see you reviewing EGB! I grew up watching this more than the original and I thought that this was a pretty good show. Parts of it really creeped the shit out of me as a kid and after re-watching all but couple episodes of it recently I have to say that it still is pretty good.
@TheCinemaniac8 жыл бұрын
+Just Another Guy Well, after watching the review I gotta say that I agree with it for the most part. This show is definitely still pretty good (even if it doesn't scare me the same way it did back then) and the horror elements were really testing the limits of what can be done in a children's cartoon and the characters were very good but deserved more focus and fleshing out. Especially Roland (who I remember liking the most as a kid) since he definitely got the short end of the stick when it comes to characterization. Kylie is definitely my favorite as well nowadays as she was the most fleshed out and likable of all the characters. So I get why she has appeared after this show while others haven't really. Also, it does feel like often times Garrett got around a bit too easily with his wheelchair but it's still great that they dared to have a main character who was in a wheelchair but didn't let that slow him down or be his defining trait. That is actually pretty damn rare in any shows but in cartoons especially!

I liked how when Maurice LeMarche is saying "I'm a has-been", he winds up sounding more like Brain for a second. That part though did really push the attitudes the writers must have thought the kids these days had. Some idea that nobody over the age of 25 or so can do anything physical. Egon really should have been there more often during the cases, gradually showing up less and less as the team got more competent and better understood what they were doing. Also, I think with the Killjoys/Clown monsters, they established that they turned Eduardo into one of them to replace the one they captured. Seemed to imply that the 4 initial ones were part of a starting gang of sorts that had died and become ghosts, whereas Eduardo wasn't dead and it was akin to him being possessed in a manner similar to Kylie in the first two episodes. Though it does raise the question as to why the other people didn't return. Maybe because the final monster at the end was like a hive-mind and you have to destroy it? I mean Roland came out of nowhere at the end.
