Well here's the difference: cartoon Egon would take charge and be the reassuring, scientific mind with all the answers. Make sense on a kid's show. Whereas in the first movie, Egon didn't seem all that comfortable around people, period, much less taking charge. Both great interpretations, just different. And then in Ghostbusters II (maybe in response to the cartoon?), you see Egon being more at ease, cracking more dry humor jokes, while still maintaining a more adult tone than the cartoon.

That "Chicken I Cluck" episode reminds me of an equally stupid yet well written episode of GI Joe called "The Viper". The basic premise of "The Viper" is actually a stupid joke based upon one of the Joe's misunderstanding a phone call from the window washer he hired to clean the windows of his family business and thinking that it was actually a Cobra plot to assassinate him. The comedy comes into play when they confront Cobra Commander after a pointless battle that the joe's ended up staring for no particular reason and demand to know who "The Viper" is and CC/Destro are just as mystified as they are about what is happening leaving CC wondering is that particular Joe has "lost his marbles" and Destro quipping "perhaps we all need a vacation".

The way I remember that episode was that the Joes kept Adam Westing the Viper's phone calls into Cobra plots... plots that the Joes then squashed early, so they ended up with enough episode to go around three times. I have come to vipe your vindows."

To be fair towards Ghostbusters 2, the reason Janine and Egon doesn't happen is because Harold Ramis didn't like the idea. (Which makes it feel kinda awkward when I think about how I disagree with him on that...)

+Chewable Arsenic Candies He didn't have much use for the show in general, really.
@jenniferschillig37688 жыл бұрын
I've only recently heard that. What did Ramis have against the pairing anyway? It came off as really cute during GBI and the Janine/Louis thing seemed out of place in GBII (having loved RGB for years before I saw GBII). I always thought that GBII would have made more sense if it had been Egon and Janine's kid in danger, instead of that awkward business of Peter-and-Dana-break-up-only-to-get-back-together-and-she's-had-a-kid-by-someone-else. It would have raised the stakes and given Egon a chance to play Papa Wolf. That may have been why the E/J pairing didn't really go anywhere in the cartoon(s)--Ramis had creative control over the character. (I never saw Extreme GB, but I always thought it was a shame they didn't have E/J married by then and have a kid of theirs figure into the storylines.)
@nicholastosoni7078 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Schillig I think the problem might be in Egon's conception as "a kind of New Wave Spock," extremely intelligent academically but utterly clueless in the ways of love. On the other hand, I would have preferred the Egon/Janine thing to have gone further--having had a taste of his own mortality, Egon starts to become a little more emotionally intelligent.

+Snabulax Other great ones from after the first season, in my not so humble opinion: "It's Jungle Out There" (An evil spirit possesses animals in the New York Zoo, and they take over the city.) "Robo-Buster" (A robot created by a thief of a businessman steals the line of business of the Ghostbusters.) "Follow That Hearse" (The Ecto-1 gets possessed.) "Future Tense" (Ray claims his new television set is haunted, in that it shows scenes from the future of him and his team. The others don't believe him at first, until they get their next assignment.) "The Halloween Door" (Nothing for me to say about this one that hasn't been previously said.)

Megared82 Supposedly, "Trasnylvanian Homesick Blues" was swapped with "Slimer, Is That You?" during the original run. But nobody knows how or why. "Slimer, Is That You?" originally aired on ABC with the new voices for Peter and Janine, and the version with the original voices wouldn't resurface until later. I wish somebody could get a hold of Straczynski (who wrote "Slimer, Is That You?"), and ask him if the swapping was his idea, or the network's.

We did get the show over here but I don´t know how many episodes. Hopefully just the first 78 good ones. In Sweden we usually don´t manage to get so far into a show before a new one comes around. Sweden was really late around 1988 to start dubbing for television. Just some special cases like Disney related got dubbed. But it was a storm when it started with TV. And sadly we did´t have that many voice actors at first. It was viewed as something lower form of work for an actor. For Ghost busters we had 6 voices in total. The four ghostbusters, Jenny and one more to play some extra character´s. I think we just had Slimer keep is original sounds since it was just gibberish anyway. But even those four Main character´s did some extra voices too. It could get really annoying when you heard the same voice for a side character done by Peter for example talking to eachother with similar voices. But the voices where icons for us and we still appreciate them. Sadly we have´t gotten the DVD over here. That goes for most of the 80´s and 90´s cartoon´s. They are not available here in any shape or form unless you recorded everything on VHS.

Hey, Phelous. One fact I'm surprised you skimmed over was the fact that Haim Saban & Shuki Levy did much of the music for the four ABC Seasons & the syndicated episodes.

It's warming to see this change of pace to a positive nostalgic lookback from Phelous. Good to know he can be genuine and appreciative, not to mention motivated to share something good with people like me who are too young to know of The Real Ghostbusters. ....And now I'm going to enjoy you ripping it apart in the next video. xD

I don't want to come off as a jerk here, but I think I got the last interview with Buster Jones before he passed away. Unfortunately that interview was lost due to my computer and second hard drive crapping out at the exact time. with the say it he was an amazing person and just left me in awe the whole time. IN a way I am glade that interview wasn't release because most of it was me saying, "Oh wow, what you have to say is way more interesting than the questions I had prepared to ask you." He was just an amazing person that over coed so much and was just so opened with his life. To this day I still kick myself for loosing all of it. He had some amazing stories to tell as well as some amazing life lessons.

I always like Lorenzo Music as Peter but could never get into Dave Coulier, made him sound him like a surfer. I always heard that Bill Murray had something to do with Lorenzo getting replaced because he didn't want Peter Venkman being associated with Garfield.
@KnightsaysNi7 жыл бұрын
Darth Necrosis Yeah, he said he was afraid Peter sounded TOO much like Garfield, so recasting him was one of the changes when they revamped the show. Ironically Mr. Murray then went on to voice Garfield in the two CGI/live-action films. Which in my opinion solidifies Lorenzo Music as the "true" voice of Peter Venkman. ;)
@dragondude96373 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is that Murray didn't even want Music replaced, he just jokingly said Peter sounds like Garfield.

That bit about the show having an anime vibe is literally so true.... thinking of that scene where they fall and land on top of each other and bounce a bit as they land, definitely some anime physics going on there. (Also appreciate how often Peter is drawn with a ":3" mouth... I know that's supposed to be a sardonic smile but it just reads as him being a catboy)

OMG! Just now checked my Netflix Queues & under TV & Movies from the 1980s I just saw the The Real Ghostbusters is now on Netflix! Season one is 78 episodes, and it doesn't take long to see when the Q5 changes start (basically right at Season 2 & then on). Halloween Door is last episiode of Season 4. Just started watching the first episode of the 1st Season, and I can definitely confirm that Peter Venkman is voiced of Lorenzo Music , so no b.S. redub of him with dave coulier's voice so far as you've talked about in Bad Episodes.
@xgray20127 жыл бұрын
Digi-Akuma Just let me know how far you have gotten to watching season one on Netflix, because that needs to be the one with the original versions of the episodes with Lorenzo Music's Peter Venkman and Laura Summer's Janine Melnitz and not those god-awful re-dubs.

one of my favorite cartoons from back in the day. netfix recently added the whole series to its list and I'll admit, I've been watching them! they truly stood the test of time as I still enjoy them decades later. some of the ghost are rather scary and a lot of the music sounds eerie for it to be a kids show, they definitely don't make'em like they used to! some of my favorite episodes were flip-side, ghost fight at the ok coral, the sandman, the cabinet of calamari, dairy farm and the Halloween episode with samhain. if you have kids, you should try watching with them as I think they are still enjoyable for everyone.

I was born in '88, so I grew up on the tail-end of "Ghostbusters Fever." I used to watch clunky VHS copies of the two movies we taped off of HBO, but I didn't know about the series at first. My parents ended up buying me a VHS tape of the episode "Knock, Knock" because I was obsessed with the movies, and I used to think it was "Ghostbusters 3." So I'd demand to watch "Ghostbusters 3" constantly. (Don't laugh, I was like 3 or 4, haha.) A few years later, I found out about the series and would watch it whenever I could find it or get VHS tapes of the episodes. But unfortunately even though I loved the episodes I saw, I couldn't catch the majority of them. I just found it out a lot of them got added to Netflix, so it might finally be time to check them out and watch the bulk of the series!

This cartoon is also one of the first things I remember watching (along with TMNT, Labyrinth, and He-Man) and I loved it. Peter was my favourite, too, along with Janine - until they changed her. As a little kid, I couldn't pinpoint the reason, but random changes in stuff I loved just bugged the hell out of me. Nothing could top my love for the Ninja Turtles, though. As a five-year-old in 88, I was obsessed with that show - me and all of my friends.

In the 2016 remake there was apparently a deleted scene that reveals Slimer was a gangster who murdered a hotel waiter for getting his order wrong and haunted the hotel after he was caught and executed by the police. Doesn't really fit with the more kid-friendly Slimer in the cartoon, does it?

Slimer : "oh my god!" If I remember correctly, at the time, and at my age at the time...that was considered pushing the envelope with profanity in a kids cartoon. Me and my brother were like "oooooooo....he cussed!" Not like we didn't sometimes when no one was around...but it was really funny at the time.
