With the cheque though, these days it would seem awfully fishy if someone ran out of cheques but didn't have a bank card to withdraw the cash, or even a credit card, especially if they could drop 350 quid on an antique. And with the software download, what about product keys? You can't just copy a program file folder and expect the software to work. Besides, it'd be much easier just to download cracked versions of software from torrent sites, wouldn't it?

With the cheque scam why not just buy a £350 item with a dodgy cheque and resell the item??? Why bother with the farce of getting cash?

The cheque scam seems so convoluted. If you're going to give a bogus bouncing cheque, you could just as easily pick out the most expensive item from the store and pay for that using the same cheque!

you seem to be missing the point. The plan you suggest means the scammer gets a antique and nothing more. In the video version, he gets the antique and cash
