Great to see Darrell again, In the early 80’s he was the only amateur racer that can beat Richie Anderson, Awesome racer and friend. Great interview Craig. Keep it going, 👍🏾

Absolutely no one as smooth as Darrell. He could hang in the air longer than anyone!!!

Thoroughly enjoyable interview. I raced in the PNW from '83-'88 and DY was THE man. Got to see him race a few times, and what always struck me was how he could unleash all that power and not just keep it under control, but do it all so gracefully. Wanted his f&f set, but had to settle for the JMC AP f&f, because even in '84, the DY was already hard to come by. Those JMC designs were so fast and snappy handling, like thoroughbreds. Thanks again for this interview, and photos, it brought back a ton of great memories.

Anytime Darrell was in the air it was a show. So much smooth hangtime and it always looked effortless. The color version of him and Williams has always been my favorite. I ran into him again at a Norba National at Mammoth in the 90's. We chatted for a bit. At the time I wouldn't have thought to ask him about the Browning system as I'd moved onto road/mtb. I wish you'd have discussed it more Craig. I had always been under the impression it was 2 rear gears given the derailuer. I know now it's not. Wish I had one back then. Yeah, I bought a Carlisle Agressor in the 80's because.... DY. Heaviest tire known to man. Hans Nissan also in the Windy photos of DY's Kuwahara jumps. Thanks for this Craig. Long overdue.

I’ve been looking to connect with Darrell over the years. Great interview Craig. I don’t even know how I found this it is definitely a God shot. We had such of an amazing time back in the day competing, Bajaing rental cars, and living the dream. This podcast made my year so far. Much love to you both.

Charlie, thank you so much. That means a TON coming from you. I'll DM you on Facebook with DY's info. And if you'd ever want to do an interview.... I'd be honored.

@@therealinfluencersproject7274 These podcasts with former BMXers has been absolutely fascinating, because here in the UK,the only time we got to see the American riders was on TV.A group of us did go to the Kellogg’s BMX event in Birmingham in 1984,which had some of the top racers and freestylers come over from the States, and managed to meet and get autographs of guys such as Greg Hill,Harry Leary,Brian Patterson,Mike Miranda,Andy Patterson,Clint Miller,Eric Rupe,Bob Haro,Mike Dominguez,Eddie Fiola, and Bob Morales.A terrific event.Missed the 1985 event, which was a shame.BMX seemed to die out here in the U.K. in the late 80s.The early to mid 80s had been huge for BMX in the UK,along with Breakdancing & Body popping ,which seemed to be parallel with each other. You’d get guys who were breakers/body poppers and would also race BMX,so it was a great time.Look forward to seeing more former BMXers from the past such as the Patterson brothers, the Anderson brothers,Stu Thomsen,Mike Miranda,Scott Clark, etc. The Tommy Brackens podcast was awesome.A great interview.👍

@@therealinfluencersproject7274 You def could see the "fan boy" coming out. Growing up with him, it was a contrast at Riverside of, "he is just a dude like me/ but he's Darrell Young!"

Only Dylan Clayton could match DY's flow & style. I still gawp at those amazing racing shots from the 80s 😎

The DYD is still hanging on my bike wall. Chicago BMX back in the 80’s was amazing. Itasca, Lombard, Elk Grove, and so on. Wish I had more race photos.

Back in early 2000s Darrell would come by little shop I worked at, Mt.Tabor Sports, got a few arrow wheels and a boxxer fork from him, loved going to the races at ski bowl and watching him rip on a DH bike.

This was so good! DY is undoubtedly one of the coolest, most humble, and for sure the most stylish riders ever. Definitely influenced Maddog (and me) to switch from Comp IIIs to Carlyle Aggressors in ‘86, just for the DY/moto style. 😊 Thanks both for doing this!
