If you are one of the few who have studied the mechanics of monetary policy and the plumbing of the financial system, most of what you learned may be out of date-that is, if you haven’t done so in the last five years. In this interview with Caitlin Long, CEO and founder of Avanti Financial Group, Dr. Manmohan Singh of the IMF explains the massive changes that have come about in the past decade and tries to dispel some of the preconceived notions many have about this complex system. In addition to this focus on the true mechanics of the current system, they also discuss the difficulty of trying to make sense of such an opaque and interconnected global system where laws and data reporting are not uniform from country to country. Moreover, Long and Singh zoom in on the tsunami of change that could be brought about by the growth of digital assets both inside and outside of the traditional financial system, and they highlight the intense focus on these developments by the private banking sector and bodies like the IMF. Filmed on December 7, 2020. Originally aired on December 14, 2020. Viewers can find more of Dr. Singh's work here: www.risk.net/c... and www.imf.org/en...
Key Learnings: The plumbing of the financial system continuously evolves as institutions, regulations, and technology change. Coming from entirely different perspectives, Long and Singh both stress the level of attention digital assets are receiving from the highest levels of global finance and how important they will be to the future development of the financial system.

This discussion is ground-breaking in so many ways. Ms Long and Dr Singh have broken down the issues we are facing (Global inequalities, QE, Leverage risks, Balance sheet recessions, FinTech, Digital currencies, Privacy, etc.) and also explored some pertinent solutions that incorporate new and upcoming paradigms (collateral re-use, tokenisation, instant settlement, pledges, etc.). Rarely do I get to hear such well-informed, nuanced and positive views in the world of Economics and Finance. Thank you, Real Vision!

So she's from JP Morgan and he mentioned Stellar. . .and this convo is all about the financial plumbing system as well as a shortage on bonds? XRP = JP Morgan Coin, XLM = Goldman Sachs Coin. Makes me hella bullish now.

The sad thing about this interview is that they mix the money multiplier version of money creation in there, which we learned is not accurate at all. I would love to see Dr. Singh in an interview with Alfonso Peccatiello to put the focus on the problem of collateral rehypothecation but still maintain a correct view of money creation in the banking system.

I hope to rewatch it after it's digested and regurgitated in a simpler manner by people like Rebel Capitalist, but I did like it how he pointed at the liquidity trap as a cause for the March crash and how going forward either negative interest rates are going to have to happen or something along the lines of tresury DeFi. What do you guys think of the SI or whatever the International Monetary Fund currency experiment was, could that go the way of the blockchain!?

I don't think it would be possible for central banks to unwind their balance sheets unless they take a huge loss. Maybe they are ok with taking the loss since they don't really need capital

I know more about the banking system than 99%of people on this planet. Most people don’t even know the difference between money and currency let alone fiat currency! I don’t have the knowledge to explain this corrupt system on a napkin. I only have the intelligence to keep buying Bitcoin!

sounds interesting but i really have to slow this all down...alot of jargon words and he keeps jumping between topics...i suspect thats normal for someone whos working at these top instituitions and not used to articulating these mechanisms to meer mortals like me....but i suspect if i take sometime reading his papers...it might all sound a bit more coherent....good effort by the interviewer though to try make things clear....

The interviewer is Caitlin Long. What do you expect the final conclusion gonna be ... "current banking system = BAD. Cryptocurrency system is here to save the day. Cryptocurrency = GOOD ". It's no brainer what RV is trying to do here. RV is all in Bitcoin and Enthereum. Just take note on that.

What an absolute complicated and convoluted mess. You should not need years of doctorate study to work out how to buy and sell something and still be confused by it all. We don't need any more clever ideas and "innovations" in finance. Bring it back to the very basics and if you can't explain it to a child in 5 minutes your on the wrong path.
