This watch cost £1950. It required a deposit of £700 with the balance of £1250 payable shortly before collecting the watch. It was available to any badged operator that served with the SBS so included any SAS lads who served on exchange. The serial number 001 was retained by Omega for their museum and 007 was auctioned off an an Special Boat Service Association Boxing event. I have a few friends with these as well as the SAS Rolex Explorer 2 and THE SRR Rolex Submariner and Explorer 2. Re the difference between SBS and SAS - these days they both do the same selection course then you choose SAS, SRR or SBS. The SBS do everthing the others do but also do the incredibly difficult to pass Swimmer Canoeist course (said to be the toughest water combat test in the world).

The watch enthusiast community owes a debt of gratitude to James Bond. I can't think of one film franchise that glorifies the wristwatch as much as the Bond franchise has. It should be credited with imbuing watches with the prestige and enduring appeal in the modern era, and how wearing a nice one is synonymous with everything cool about masculinity. Even for those of us of modest financial means, who find Omega's price point unattainable, watching the most dapper, capable and heroic man to ever be adapted to screen wearing nice time pieces was our entry point into this hobby.

I really disagree I think it's frankly disgusting that Omega in particular is so associated with a person, even though they're fictional, whose job so casually requires huge amounts of killing. That's certainly not my idea of cool masculinity.

Hi Adrian, interesting video. Omega have always made watches for British special forces and commandos,,. The relationship started during WW2, when Omega made the forerunner of the Seamaster. Then released the civilian version in 1949. In 1989 i was issued with my Seamaster automatic, which looks similar to the standard Seamaster but has a NATO arrow mark and number on the back of the casino. Also the bazel is black in some light ,green or blue in other light. These watches were once known as the ocean commander. My watch served in Desert sabre behind enmity lines in 1992. I left the Royal Marines in 1996 and still wear the watch. I understood that Omega make an all black ceramic Seamaster for the SBS now.

Although obviously a very different thing, this is why I love my CWC G10 so much. The Omega NTTD has the broad arrow on the dial as part of the "gimmick," which is fine, but the CWC (and other genuinely issued watches) have it because they're the real deal. I think that's cool. Great video, loved it.

Have both Bond and Real Bomd Omegas...2531.89 being my ultimate dream watch, I take care of it. 2535.80 is a beater, daily tank, I wear it all the time, super accurate, strong, heavy and bulky. It is also a mix of old and modern, from old, it has vawe dial, alu bezel and looks, but from modern it has co-axial, ceramic mat dial so less shiny than 2531.80, and has a back display cover. OG Bond I keep on bracelet, but this 2535.80 is on rubber band 90% of the time.

Adrian, you're the best. Just let me say that. The content that you produce is, without a doubt, always substantive. This is a tough one for me. I'm predominantly, a massive fan of Omega, and what they do. Especially as of recent. But I also have a huge amount of respect for the quality, and dominance, that is "the Crown." Undeniably, the king of the watch world. At least from a production and marketing standpoint. All of that said.....I would probably have to choose the "Explorer II." Primarily due to styling, and I just feel that it's a better watch, between the 2 examples given. It also seems to suit my personality a bit more🙌

As much as I love the Omega Seamaster 300m GMT 2535.80.00 you featured I’d take Planet Ocean SAS Edition 2200.52.00. There’s something about the first generation PO that is so cool

Great to see the videos back up in 2023. Looking forward to one day having a Rolex or Omega. 2016-2017 opted for the cheap option for the Casio Marlin Duro with a Spectre looking Nato Strap! Was a favourite watch of mine as could go swimming with it too but no sapphire glass, lume not great and mineral glass cracked easily so sold off and replaced with the Nautica. Now using that Depth Charge Automatic Divers Watch DB106631. If ever you get rid of your Rolex or Omegas quite happy to take them off your hands one day... (no pun intended) ;)

Great video as usual! I am firmly in the Explorer 2 camp and am currently waiting on the list if that even exists? Cheers Adrian.
