Ok, a little story time: before this John’s vid I considered myself a pretty knowledgeable Persona fan - I played through 3-5, I watched and read everything on first two titles, I got into SMT, I consumed everything I could find in TVTropes/subreddits/KZbin analytical essays. And he still managed to surprise me because as I was watching, I was thinking “How the hell I missed something like this? Why nobody ever said anything about it to me before?”. So yeah, the start already completely captured my attention - that’s how you do an introduction. I would do unspeakable things for real Eyepatch Wolves game, I swear, if he did a Kickstarter, it would be an almost-guaranteed success. The only downside is, well, his videos would release even less frequently. Pokemon and Dr. House jokes still get a laugh out of me no matter how many times I rewatch this. The next section of this video is my favorite, so I’ll be waiting for Part B with a great interest.

In my opinion, one of the more interesting examples is when a company does this by accident. For example, Battleborn and Evertale had trailers that were completely different from the actual game and many thought were better ideas for a game.

And yes, bowser is on your team there. was remade for Switch.

chrono cross is indeed directly tied to chrono trigger...in really dumb ways/ways that pissed off the fans these ways being (spoielrs for chrono cross): -the main cast of chrono trigger are all DEAD (killed by chrono cross' initial main villain) -One of the many recruitable party members MIGHT be one of the surviving chrono trigger character with amnesia -the big bad of the first game just sorta randomly comes back as the final boss with very little real set up

Most of SMT to my knowledge is post apocalypse. I can not wait for Vengeance. I love Persona and SMT. I got the hardest ending in SMT 3 nocturne and boy was it fun.

Here’s the breakdown on FF11/FF14: so the team was put on for the game, and while the game was functional, it didn’t have a lot of fans outside of japan, even after it got officially localized. So a lot of that team was sectioned off to make FF14, and when scaling the game up, they fan into a lot of problems, spread out over any aspects. Instead of dropping the game entirely, they brought in new people to head the different positions, and they discontinued the game for a bit to roll out a full reboot of the game, which is what people now call Final Fantasy 14. Meanwhile, the skeleton team on Final Fantasy 11 is still making minor updates to the game to keep it running even to this day, and they even made minor expansions to the game in the decade sense launching. The whole story is actually kinda fascinating on a Game Development side.

I will say, one big hurdle for the ones ahown here, outside making a real game is extremely hard and time consuming with other factors, is copyright. Say for Mother. People been trying to make a Mother 4, like a fangame, but a Nintendo always comes in and kills it. Same for any series, the threat of one day someone who owns the copyright, just to say for you to stop, is huge. Hell, you can even release it and they still can come in and try to wipe all you made. So a huge hurdle is...not being stopped or sued for even attempting it

Chrono Cross is connected to Chrono Trigger in ways I wish that it wasn’t. It didn’t help that the DS port of Trigger added an extra ending to tie it further to Cross.

You're thinking of FF14, when you say it died and it had to redo it. FF11 was wildly popular for its time and is still going to this day.

So… FFXI is not terrible. When it came out it was fantastic. It’s still played today, and is considered one of the most profitable MMOs. Now… FFXIV 1.0 was terrible. It was severely lacking in Quality of Life features that other games had made essential. So… they killed it. And FFXIV 2.0, A Realm Reborn was released a few years after and is now considered to be one of the best Final Fantasy games in existence
