The guidelines are also made fun of mostly due to poor translation. Once such evidence is "quarantine" in Chinese also means "isolation". So the fact that they included both words implies they likely just machine-translated the Chinese word. Making fun of different linguistic habits sounds very ignorant to me. It's already been pointed out by other KZbinrs that the guidelines are most likely enforced by the commie government and does not fully reflect the studio's opinions. I personally find them understandable. Like technically, right to freedom-of-speech in your country might allow you to question the definition of "offensive language" and one's right to make such definition, but as decent human beings we all know what they meant, even if they are not very subtle in their expressions. Do you really wanna be that attention-junkie in the room to waste everybody's time on that technical detail? And they specifically included "feminist propaganda" most likely just means they were aware and had had enough of the game journalists' accusations and they just wanted reviewers to focus on the game and not bring politics into it. Again, they may not seem very subtle in the settings of the English language but I find it very understandable. Everything exists and happens for a reason.

One of my favorite characters in the mythology is the third lotus prince who is known to look pretty feminine. He is not in the game much, but it does show him in one of the animations. The IGN article use two pieces of evidence that some of the devs at Game Science at sexist, The Act Man only addressed the first one, the article contains a second post of lead artist at game science, in this one he says women are biologically conditioned to only like very simple games with simple mechanics and that are about "girly" things like buying bags, the rest post is him renting on how women have such an easy life and are incapable of enjoying "manly" games. This post wasn't mistranslated, chinese native speaker did a translation and it marched the one find in the IGN article, in the screenshot at 11:30 the person that criticized the translation of the first post also say that the second post doesn't contain mistranslations and that it's content is sexist (she say it's not misogyny but it clearly is when you read the translation by native chinese speaker). There are also evidence that Game Science used recruitment ads that are sexist in the way they depict women. Finally Game Science said "no comment" when asked about the sexist post made by one of their devs, this is not the behaviour of someone that know they're innocents. Given the evidence you cannot say the IGN article is spreading misinformation, the first post is mistranslated but not the second one, this post enough evidence to say that the Lead Artist at Game Science is sexist and misogynist. I'll talk about the top left of the posters you referenced and referenced in the article: 别[搞]同事 = Don't [make trouble/stir up trouble/mess with] for your coworkers. The 'ambiguous' phrase here is 搞, 别 just means "don't" and "同事" just means coworkers. 搞 was uncharitably translated into english as "screw" because screw also has a double meaning in english - either sex or to mess with. But in chinese you almost certainly would never say 别搞同事 to say "don't fuck your coworker". But if you uncharitably go with "fuck" (again, it's very unlikely a native speaker will use 搞 to mean fuck) then the rest of the section that does mention "炮友" which does actually mean friends with (sexual) benefits, if you translate NOTHING ELSE you can make it look like one of the perks of working there is being able to fuck your coworkers. But that would be IGN levels of translation ignoring all context. 炮友 is preceded by "Except" so it's not, and the implication of 炮友 is that it's only superficial benefit as opposed to anything deeper (like how a real relationship is deeper and more meaningful than a FWB). REST OF THE PASSAGE: 除了炮友, 我们发现以前的很多杨利只是看起来很美 但是在这里 我们还有更多贴心到器这的服务项目 无论克补、车补、不限次不昭时的打车报销 还是不限量的ZESPRI奇异采或者KIRKLAND坚果. The full semantic meaning of the block of text is an analogy. They're saying that as a company, they offer actually meaningful benefits as opposed to other companies offering superficial benefits, just like how a real relationship is more meaningful than a hookup buddy. Is it a vulgar joke with sexual overtones? Yeah, it is. Is it what IGN made it out to be? Absolutely not. 但是在这里 means "but here" and everything after just lists out the benefits like various subsidies and snacks. You could probably plug it into google translate and it'd be accurate enough.

@@TheActMan fyi, this meme stems from the driver/traffic credit system, which uses cameras and AI to automatically deduct points and impose a fine from vehicle drivers when they don’t obey traffic laws, ie running a red light, turning right from a center lane, driving on the wrong side of traffic, etc etc. Drivers have a specific credit score to uphold. When they lose too many points and dip below a threshold, their driving license is suspended and not legally allowed to drive. They have to retake the driver license test to get their license back. Drivers who illegally drive with a suspended license are hit with heavy fines and possible arrest/jail time.

I've seen positive reviews on Chinese platforms in regards to the game especially with commentors explaining the tragedy romance of the pig and the spider, the realisation behind 2 different endings - to wear the restrictive headband or rebel. As a person growing up and watching Journey to the West (1 of the 4 literacy works of China), it has multiple versions of adaptations and dragon ball clearly took inspiration for it. There's a vid of 4 hrs+ of all cutscenes which is wow and good use of CGI. I don't get why people are focused on controversial topics (can arouse arguments and hatred among gender, religion, culture and even orientation) when games are used as an alternative for enjoying or escaping from reality every now and then.

Chinese woman here. The quote by the developer does contain things lost in translation. Yes those are idioms. No, they don't sound as crude or gross in Chinese as they do in English. At most, they're... edgy? But they do feel weird and unnecessary on a public platform. Then there's his other "controversial" post where he said the G-spot of men and women in gaming is different. He lists a bunch of stereotypical features in games marketed towards women, and concludes with, "Fuck all that, my game is for the bros" (paraphrase). Um... ok? Of course some games are marketed more towards women than men, and it's fine if you don't want to make those types of games. But why did you have to again phrase it in the most unnecessarily edgy way possible, ignoring the many women out there who do enjoy action RPGs and would want to play your game? Honestly, this just reads to me like a mulish, self-congratulatory opinion that lacks PR awareness. He could have said, "My game is for women, too. Those who think otherwise have narrow views on what women want in gaming."... which is truth! I'm still playing Black Myth: Wukong. I love Souls games. Journey to the West hits me in the nostalgia feels. And I'm really happy to see Chinese mythology and one of the Four Greats of Chinese literature get wider recognition in the west. And the game looks amazing! As for the developer's comments, they're not bad enough to warrant a boycott. They're not great comments, though. So by all means, enjoy the game, but don't maintain the developer said nothing wrong. The casual sexual innuendos, (even if not as bad in English), the lack of awareness or respect for your female fan base, and the knee-jerk reaction of "no feminist propaganda" when criticized, all point to some measure of sexism in the developer and the company. It's not invalid to wish things were different. But yeah, the "lack of diversity" claim is ridiculous. The game has female characters, and as many as I would expect for something based on Journey to the West. It seems like the reviewer went in with assumptions of the company being sexist, and forcibly read that into the game. Edit: So as some people have pointed out to me, the "G-spot" comment was made years ago, not regarding Black Myth Wukong. And there's a whole context that I'm missing. At the time, there seemed to be this trend of attracting female players to tabletop RPGs in order to attract men, who'd want to play the games to hit on the women. There were questionable ways of achieving this, and this was the phenomenon the developer was responding to, and ridiculing. His comment "Men and women are built different, and their G-spot in gaming is different..." It's referring more to his opinion that those practices (attracting women to your game to get the guys), wouldn't work, because men and women want different things in games. Again, I don't necessarily agree with this, but I can see that broadly speaking, more women might enjoy other kinds of games than games heavily marketed towards het men. So while I still think his comment was off-colour and a generalization, it's not worth the controversy. He wasn't actually trying to exclude women. As for his more recent---still kind of sexual--comments during the development of Black Myth: Wukong, it's partly an over-literal translation, and in part him still in the habit of speaking in edgy ways online (the lower extremity line, more than the "being licked" line), but it's not the worst thing in the world. There are probably tech and gaming companies with far more of a sexist culture than Game Science. It's just that their indie developer doesn't seem to have as much of a filter, nor as good of a PR team.

Yes. G-Spot in game design language is a crude way to describe "what makes players feel good". For example, slashing and ripping monsters apart and see the blood and flesh coming out and splash onto your screen is a "g-spot" for slash n' hash game players. Being able to carry out a fully charged combo attack in Wukong is a "g-spot" for players too. Being able to carry out your archetype and one shot your enemy with your massive blow in League of Legends can be considered as a "g-spot" too. But, the usage is very crude and vulgar. He could have phrased it better and be more aware of the influence (good and bad) on the public his words have, I'll give you that.

They don't like it because they want to spread some idea that diversity can lead to more sales. The more people you can appeal to etc.. Obviously it doesn't actually work that way but there is a concerted effort to influence populations into thinking that way over time. Obviously the real agenda is not diversity in general, but rather having gay and female main protagonists. Black Myth doesn't even have a slouch wristed softy so they are going to hate it no matter what. These are the same lunatics who think a game like Mario needs gay people in it. We're talking maybe 23 people on the entire planet who actually feel that way, and billions upon billions of dollars each year funding the influence.

I think one of the best features of this game is that some of the bosses will get special phase 2s if you kill them really fast. Sort of adaptive difficulty for good vs bad players
