Thanks for the effort SC, you put other so called "automotive" portals/journalists in Malaysia to shame. Keep up the great job!

Thank you for the actual reality check on using one of these cars. The stress on reaching these charger sites is horrendous and the wait till it is fully charged.

Thanks for this part 2. From my reading, you can have more range if you drive a bit slower, maybe 90-100 in highway. Reduce cruising speed 10km/h will give you more range than off the A/C.

yepp we already learnt this on automotive engineering textbook even for ICE cars decades ago. Btw constant speed isn't economical but constant throttle is since the road isn't flat

I have had my Kona Max (64kW) for five months now. I have done 15k km. Honestly, this long range Kona doesn't create any range anxiety for me. I have done many outstation trips i.e Northern (up to Kuala Ketil, Kedah), Southern (always an easy drive to JB, or rural Bukit Kepong), and Eastern (up to Kuala Terengganu). It fits my lifestyle as it's my work car. So most of the time, the only passenger is my wife and kids for those weekend jalan2. I've also captured my experience on KZbin

This is just over at the West Coast. A trip to East Coast will have even lesser charging stations. So for me, I'll stick with ICE for now.

Good video, thanks for sharing. Bought another Kona EV, my second, partly due to availability. I always use regen level 3. I normally avoid using smart cruise if I want to maximise the range. It seems smart cruise do not regen, not sure why.

What is the price for full charge, time to full charge, and distance you get for Kona? Tq.
@Leongchor
@Leongchor 2 жыл бұрын
@@RandomPerson-tz7wk If you have a home charger, say single phase 7kw charger, theoretically, takes 9 hours from 0 to 100% for the Kona max. However, in normal daily use, one will charge when the battery is down to 30%, and charge to 80%. So overnight charge is plenty.
@Leongchor
@Leongchor 2 жыл бұрын
@@RandomPerson-tz7wk As for distance, easily 420km plus, dependant on driving habit.
@Leongchor
@Leongchor 2 жыл бұрын
@@RandomPerson-tz7wk As for cost, it depends if you use public charger or home charger. I normally use home charger, so full charge is 64kwh times the rate your are paying for your home tariffs, plus add on say 10 to 15% charging lost. This will give you 430km or so.

@@FaizalZain He literally said the issue is with charging availability and charging speed. And main crisis in the video was bettery running out. If they didn't full charge, the car would die on the road or they would end up waiting for hours if the only available charge is slow charge or some "EV" car parking
@isaachiew676

this is because our law is so outdated. Only TNB are allowed to sell electricity, so if you mark the pricing based on the KWH, you are technically breaking the law. The time-based charging is only useful when you have ultra high speed DC charging in the range of 200~350 kwh which is super common in Singapore and overseas but a very far cry in Malaysia. This is what happens when our country is slower than other countries.
@isaachiew676
@isaachiew676 2 жыл бұрын
@@FaizalZain unfortunately you have to charge to full because the public charging network is unreliable. The weather, traffic, will all add up unknowingly to your consumption. So charging up to full as of now in Malaysia is prudent.

I would pay the BMW Tian Siang for whatever seemingly exorbitant price they are charging me. Meanwhile, EVs of Malaysia simply still struggling at long range road trips because the public ev charging network is still not adequate and widespread yet. Hence you will have to be extra disciplined when driving one, perhaps at 90 km/h and reserve that drag race fun at your own city where you can charge peacefully at your home. My take on this: 1) Choose an ev that has an WLTP range of at least 450km, the bigger the battery size, the better. Even better: solar panels, which we have to wait for a few more years. 2) Drive less than 90km/h when during long range, avoid using the old roads because they are windy and thus lengthier. 3) Charge whenever you park, choose shopping malls that has ev charging spaces or at least a good old three pin wall jack, at least when you come back to your car, you have some extra juice. 4) Get a Zip Charge portable power bank. Yup there is a power bank for EVs. 8 KWH in 60 mins. But really expensive.

Just take this as a bad ev experience with a massive pinch of salt. Autobuzz did a better job showing they're race to penang without charging and with charging on the way, even Zaidan Zainudin did better since he's already made multi videos of him driving his own kona ev showcasing how he travels and even him traveling to penang for work penang and back. Charge ev is trash period no doubts, hopes are Gentari builds more chargers around since they do provide newer and more reliable ones . funny you 2 didn't bother charging on shell recharge one on tapah or even outside ipoh.

This video reconcur what Zaidan Zainudin face as well. They got shoo away by a legit charger for public in BMW dealership compound. I definitely know that dealer place! He got that charger membership, parking his car inside some bmw dealer with chargers that was suppose to allow charging to public. He was being shoo away by the premise security guards! Really paint this dealership brand in a bad way!

EV during balik kampung seasons will be more exciting where you can even enter R&R for petrol sometime. I have seen people pee in pants a few steps away from the toilet door. This is real life on a massively jam highway. Even ICE need to face it. EV user probably can share that. So far no one share worst case scenario.

I wish our oil rich company Petronas build more EV station in their existing petrol station. Shopping malls, car dealers, hotels or even restaurants to install EV station for public use. Goverment to support EV operators by giving them tax incentive.

@@terradrive once again you do not understand. the so called green hydrogen is made by using electrolysis, which we all have seen and done in our secondary school. The thing is, it requires A LOT of energy and hence using renewable energy sources such as wind turbines or solar panels So you spend lotsa power THAT CAN BE CHANNELED INSTEAD STRAIGHTAWAY INTO BATTERY ELECTRIC VEHICLES, TO GENERATE HYDROGEN THAT WILL POWER HYDROGEN FCVs Doesn't make any sense at all. And that's why it is stupid. But if Koreans wanna be stupid and pay us money to do it, why not?

and speaking about black outs.... renewable energy. In the future we are all going to generate our own electricity using our rooftops and VAWTs in our gardens. Unless you are living in condos or flats. That is.
