Im surprised none of u mentioned the influence that the anniversary of the series back in 96’ might’ve had on the decision to make Goku a kid. Also the fact that the Japan audience loves Goku from his adventures as a kid more so than him as an adult.

It's cool to have a kid main characters for kids to relate to, but most older kids admire older characters. Goten and Trunks really need serious character development and maturing to become role models (even if they're supporting casts) instead of reverting adult characters to kids. As for GT, I felt weird watching Goku switching between kid and adult after he attained SSJ4. The early portion of GT would still work fine if Goku was an adult while guiding Trunks and Pan along, and only interfere if necessary. And I'm sure there'd be other ways to draw out Goku's SSJ4 powers.

He doesn't become adult with ssj4, ssj4 is a oozaru transformation that looks more human, so it's more of a mix of kid goku with great ape and it appears like an adult form.

I think if the fight coreography and becoming SSJ4 woulf have returned Goku to being an adult/ being so powerful it breaks Pilaf's wish. Then it would be more enjoyable, but the fights really kill it for me. They're very by the numbers. While no fight in Super is as good as the original manga's paneling and flow, there are still some pretty good fights. The Broly movie had some top tier action.

Honestly i'm fine with it. Akira Toriyama seems super excited to work on it. I loved the Original Dragon Ball Series and Z, GT was interesting. Until we see some episodes i feel like we should wait to pass judgement on Daima. Part of me is really interested to see how Vegeta will handle being a child again and forging some good memories he probably didn't have under Frieza Regime.

Just to address the claim that turning Goku into a kid in GT wasn't to weaken him, there were definitely statements that state otherwise. Atsushi Maekawa (scriptwriter who wrote nearly half of the episodes and TV special) mentions an issue with Goku being so strong and that turning Goku into a kid and giving him limitations "would open up the adventure even more". Additionally, the GT Perfect File includes a poster originally only distributed to sponsors and TV management that included a Q&A on the back and the first question asks why Goku was turned into a kid, with the answer being that scriptwriters felt that it'd be too hard to do anything with Goku after beating Majin Boo. In regards to sourcing, the Maekawa Q&A from the "Dragonbook" is easy to find on the translations page of Kanzenshuu. The GT Perfect File Q&A is harder to source in English though since Herms never provided a full translation of the Perfect File volumes, but there is a page posted in a Kanzenshuu forum regarding the subject that was made by Curtis Hoffman.

Yup, and the show itself shows how instance transmission has to go bye-bye to make actual plot work. They’d be able to warp straight to and from planets on a whim, straight into the heart of a villain’s base, etc. That ability broke the plot and needed to go. @@HydraBread well, this was left out out of the discussion because it doesn't really go with their premise that the idea of turning Goku to a kid was so one-dimensional as just wanting a kid to be the prominent figure in a shounen show and that it was just trying to get that old school Dragon Ball adventure feel. The truth is that the reasoning for the decision was multi-faceted since the makers of GT were thinking about turning Goku into a kid for those other reasons, the fact that they didn't know how to challenge a post-Boo adult Goku was a major factor and led to the deliberate choice of making Goku a kid. That said, while Instantaneous Movement can make the plot harder to work, it just takes creative writing to do so because it's not a limitless technique, it has limits. For example, Goku had to go to Kaio sama's planet to teleport to New Namek, as he couldn't sense anything from Earth and Shin had to teleport everyone when Boo was destroying the Earth because Goku couldn't concentrate well enough to get to the Realm of the Kaioshin. Also, while I get what Dragon Lee was saying about SSJ4, I believe he's overthinking it because the stated reason for Goku becoming SSJ4 suddenly was simply to be strong enough to fight Baby so I think the yin and yang parallels to Sun Wukong here are accidental. Granted, I can't prove that, it's just my feeling.

I always felt them turning Goku into kid was a way they can redo dragon ball. Remember Goku as a kid in the original dragon ball was very weak compare to him now. He also didn't grow as fast in power as a kid as he did as an adult. Remember other humans use to able to beat goku. Plus the whole idea of him being a saiyan from another planet wasn't even thought about until Z. I think they are trying to somewhat rewrite the original dragon ball but with him as pure saiyan.

They made him a kid again to pay tribute to the early adventures of finding the Dragonballs in the original DB, but all that was over by the Baby Saga. I knew even when I was younger they turned Goku into a kid in GT cause the show had no kids in it besides Pan and Bulla who were barely featured, I thought that was pretty obvious to anyone watching the show? When Gohan grew up and they introduced Goten and Trunks in Z , it was pretty obvious they were going to continue to introduce children on the show as people grew up. They do this on television shows in America too, this isn’t a novel concept. 😂

People loved Gohan and the story would have been bland just focusing on Goku just power up constantly. Having the show following the journey of a child with potential learning his powers makes things interesting and appealing to everyone. You can’t just have things be only about fights or power ups with the adults who are already very strong. The kids on the show bring variety. The way GT did it was a bit weird to me but it was different so I didn’t really mind that much.

If you think about it, maybe Goku being turned into a kid actually helped benefit him getting SSJ4. Think of it like this: the tail is obviously a mandatory requirement needed in order to achieve the form. But Goku had his tail removed at the root back when he was training with Kami in preparation for the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. I assume he was around 15 years old when that happened. So when the Black Star Dragonballs turned him back into a kid, they probably reverted him to an age he was before he had his tail removed at the root. Which is perhaps why he was able to grow a small tail bump on his rear when he was training with the Elder Kai.

That still wouldn’t make any sense, saiyans tails only grow back when their powers have not surpassed the great apes powers, obviously Gokus has far surpassed that at that point. There’s a dozen ways to try and retcon plot holes but a good amount of things in Dragonball have no explanation. Even Toriyama has admitted this in interviews.

vegeta didnt have a tail when he went super saiyan 4 he used the blutz wave generator that basically forced his tail to regrow only for the transformation, but when he reverted back to normal he didnt have his tail back

@@gullyblanchard5750 the only reason that goku's tail was regrown in GT was because of Elder Kai, but the issue is that makes no sense still as the training that was used to restore his tail was just random and obviously they cheated to get the tail to fully grow out with transforming animals. but the issue with that is his tail was removed by kami under unknown circumstance with unknown means thus it being so early grown back is very very strange, but goku's power in GT was varied he seemed very weak in base some episodes and extremely powerful in base in other episodes its very strange

I feel like the ss4 model was probably drawn out with the tail before they even thought about how they would grow the tail in the transformation. By the way there were a few episodes that explained why Kami removed gokus tail, when Goku fought vegeta he had a flashback and kami basically removed it so he couldnt turn to the great ape again. In Dragonball on the first episode of the world tournament, krillen asked him about his tail and he said if he got rid of his tail , the moon would come back.

Well it was rumors that ss4's design would still possibly be used for something later on so I think if all the Saiyans including trunks and goten grow there tails back it will be for permanent power boost and balance and therefore making all ss forms perfectly mastered so we're probably going to get mastered ss2 ss3 and some new kinda ss4 as well as beast gohan and ultra instinct and ultra ego combined ss4 looking form hopefully

Very few can harness the power of the Oozaru form without going wild. Yet for some strange reason Goku has access to harnessing it's power even without a tail, or transforming. He used it's power to destroy King Piccolo.

I despise the premise. The issue for me is that they could've done the worldbuilding and story without the kid premise. Even saying that this is targeted to kids isn't valid because unless you're referring to BRAND NEW target audiences different from those who first watched super and even then, the 90s kids who started DB watched Goku GROW UP throughout the years which felt natural and authentic. This is literally doing the same concept but backward. Those kids grew up probably wayching from the TOP arc (with how popular it was) onwards, so those same kids are already accustomed to an adult DB series. This feels like what Super Hero was trying to do, which was appeal to the older DB fans with a nostalgia trip while also finding a way to sell toys to a younger audience. That's all I'm going to say so far. I'm not excited for the series, but I'll try and keep an open mind towards it.

GT wasn't terrible, but, the main issue I had with that series was it just had so much wasted potential! We literally could have had adult Gotenks, the first (at that time) female super sayian, the other side characters playing a bigger role (although 18 had a good moment when she teamed up with Goku to take down Super 17), but it pretty much turned into the Goku and everyone else show! That being said, Goku being one of the more mature characters was a nice positive from that series! It had good ideas, they just weren't executed very well!

I hope,the main problem i have with Daima is that goku looks more like goten then to his kid version in DB/GT,so hopefully the tail will give Daima kid goku more personality then just a goten with different clothes like he is now. Also i love sayan tails.

I don't dislike GT, but I AM disappointed by what seems like character regression, abandoning plot threads from Super (like Broly), and the focus on Goku and Vegeta as the main characters. I want to see Trunks and Goten be taken seriously, I want Gohan to take himself seriously, and I want Goku and Vegeta to hand the reins off to their children like they were supposed to in Z. Turning all characters into kids makes me worry that Daima won't take itself seriously and will further regress characters

Goku and Vegeta never handed the reins to their kids in Z. What are you talking about? The fact that they stayed out of it by the end of the Buu Saga proved that.

Also, some of of your problems with Super, like not focusing on the others except Goku, was done even worse in GT. Broly wasn't abandoned because he was in Superhero and most likely, the manga when it continues after the Superhero arc.

I honestly liked GT, even though it was slow paced at times, there was an underlying great story going on that many people just sleep on. One of my favorite parts of GT was also the fact that Goku was made weak because it made the story have higher stakes, the villains actually felt very threatening,

That would have been pretty stupid honestly;also they did something similar in the last GT scene(when we see goku as an adult again flying away with his nimbus).

I remember when I was watching GT when it was about to end getting bootleg VHS whenever I could. I said to myself it's not perfect, it's not going to be on the same level of greatness Z was on but it's still a good show and I like it. I was so upset when I bought the first GT DVDs when Funimation got ahold of it because it wasn't the beginning. It was smack in the middle of the first season. They had the nerve to market the episodes they skipped as "The lost episodes". I never liked the Funimation Dubs anything Dragonball and I always hated that they removed the original musical scores. I'm going off on a rant I feel. All I'm trying to say is that Dragonball GT never deserved the bad press it received through out the years. I was a fan when I first heard about it back in the 90s and was sad back in 1997 when it left because at the time it was the end of Dragonball
