I see a lot of people asking if I am actually switching or just doing this for the video. I get that a lot of creators do that, but I am legitimately switching. I feel very strongly about my closing statements in this video. In order to maintain my credibility and honesty in videos, I cannot have brand loyalty or biases. Every year, I switch between iOS and Android, and this year will be an android year for me. The switch is so annoying (thanks to Apple's hurdles) but I am making it happen. Don't believe me? Check back in a month, or two months, or eight months :)

Like you, I switch back and forth because I happen to love tech and both are great choices with benefits from both of them. I often end up switching back to iPhone because my family is on iPhone and I'm the odd man out because of iMessage, Facetime, etc. I will say that I have grown to appreciate Apple Maps quite a bit and CarPlay. Google maps has become such a bloated mess that won't shut up I run it with voice nav turned off.

Making the switch is definitely more annoying going from apple to android. I had s7 then to xr and I think next year Ill go with the next pixel 8. I just want google assistant and the ability to back up my photos locally. You can technically transfer photos to Windows now but if you have 1000+ photos its going to freeze and not finish. It suuuucks. I ended up paying for more cloud storage and then downloading from there. Pretty annoying. The biggest loss will be facetime as my fiance and I always use it. She doesnt want me to switch because of that and the emojis and stuff but idk if its all that big of a deal. Google really needs to focus on video capture though. From what Ive seen it can be good to absolute trash. Pictures seem really good but they need to improve the video quality by a lot.

I'm doing the same this year. I had an iPhone 11, have a Mac, Apple watch and beats fit pro and will actually change for the Pixel 7 Pro because I feel the price is fair for what they ask and I can't say the same for the 14 since it looks like the same phone as the 13, but more expensive. Brand loyalty is a stupidity. High props to you mate!

@Damian Wójcikiewicz yea for Android Garmin watch is best, but then it's not really a smartwatch more like fitness watch. I have Garmin venu 2 and it's accurate. I don't own Galaxy watch but I have seen a lot of reviews and galaxy watches are not accurate. Apple watches though have less battery life but they are almost as accurate as Garmin watch and have so many more phone features.

Both are great. I like to switch between both. It's really not the effort people think it will be, you just plug your android phone into an iOS phone and follow 1 minute's worth of setup screens. I think Apples ecosystem is unrivalled but Google is catching up and innovating more quickly. The Google phones are definitely more fun but Apple has a more clean feel to it. Just a personal opinion. Not sure why people get into one and are so defensive, they're just big companies. Move between them and make them work for your money rather than being blindly loyal.

I went from a Samsung (used basically all Google apps though) and switched to an iPhone 14 Pro due to emergency SOS. One thing that surprised me, and really makes me want to go back, is how much better Google seems to be at being an actual phone. Spam detection is far better than on an iPhone, which is generally blanket blocking all calls from an unknown number, and the same is true for spam texts. I often get texts from vendors, one time passcodes, or coworkers and Google Messages is smart enough to pass those through to my inbox as opposed to in the unknown numbers folder which I often don't ever see. Other things that Google just destroys iPhones at are the keyboard quality (GBoard is just miles ahead of iOS keyboard) as well as the cross platform integration, especially if you use Google One.
@laurentiupopa5001

emergency sos and crash detection ahave been on pixel for 3 years. you can even set a time interval, and the phone will check back on you. if you don't respond, it will call your emergency contacts and share the location. very useful if you have to walk in sketchy areas.
@whenhen

@@laurentiupopa5001 It's not the same. I often go to areas with 0 cell service. Emergency SOS on an iPhone will allow free satellite communication with EMS for rescue, or if a car breaks down. Pixel is limited to in range communication.

I have had an iPhone for almost 8 years now (6s then the 11), but I am thinking to go to the pixel because... honestly? I absolutely hate the iPhone's photo storing system. I remember an old Android I had years ago, and if I put a photo in an album, it would actually go into that folder and not show up on the 'camera roll'. We have thousands of pictures, screenshots etc these days and it's a pain in the arse scrolling through all of it to find something that you didn't duplicate into an album. I just want it to be organised. Plus I love Google photos, it's so much easier to get all my photos in one place rather than having to have a secondary app. Thanks for your review, makes me feel better about making the switch.

Excellent video and very helpful. I switched to an iPhone 13 Pro Max after using a Pixel for many years but I’m thinking about switching back to the pixel 7. There are two things that are never mentioned in any review which has me thinking about going back. One, there are many third-party apps where you cannot increase the font size on the iPhone. It may sound minor, but for me it’s not. KZbin studio is an example. No matter what you do on an iPhone, the font size stays the same. Also, being able to text through my work PC is something that I used to do all the time on android. Doesn’t look like Apple will never allow your iMessage from a browser. That would be a game changer if they did.

I agree about the apps not respecting the system text size. As someone with horrible vision, it means that I basically need to hold the iPhone a few inches from my face if I'm not wearing glasses. Given how common this is, I'm surprised that Apple hasn't made respecting system text size a requirement for all apps on the app store, save for maybe games where it's impractical. I also agree about the web app version of Google Messages. It's genuinely nice to be able to use whatever computer you want, and be able to text, check your calendar, etc without being locked to one vendor's hardware.

That’s exactly the move I’m making! Trading in my iPhone 13 Pro Max for a Pixel 7 Pro I have on order in Hazel with their super good trade in offers. I’ll let you know what I think, but for me, it comes down to a few things: 1) frustrations with iOS 16. UI bugs have become a norm here, and it seems to be happening to a lesser extent on my work cell (iPhone 12) 2) I miss KZbin Vanced and Adaway; well, vanced is dead but revanced lives on. You could have a truly ad free experience on android. 3) I have a secondary work iPhone for iMessage/FaceTime related needs. 4) browser texting was killer! 5) google assistant. I legit cannot stand Siri. 6) iOS just feels so… lazy. I really don’t like having to wait for slow-as-molasses animations to finish doing their thing before I can tap on, and of course, there’s no way to change animation speeds outside of “reducing motion” in accessibility which makes using your phone feel like a windows movie maker project. 7) need. That. Call. Screening. I have to answer every call that comes my way in my current position.

I purchased the pixel 7 pro because I was told it would not overheat when taking photos outside in the sun. I am a consultant and sometimes take as many as 3,000 photos a week. I used to use my iPhone but it just gets hot and goes dark so fast. So I switched to a digital camera which was a real pain in the butt. I tried the pixel 7 pro for that reason only and fell in love with the camera, phone, and all of its features. I have been an avid iPhone user since day one. I find myself watching this video and thinking I'm about 95% ready to switch over to the pixel full time. One thing I have not researched on the Google phone is adding my payment methods and the wallet. So when I'm flying and traveling on my iPhone I just click one button and it opens up my boarding pass in the wallet but I'm not sure if pixel has this feature. I love this video! Great job! Keep up the good work . I appreciate your content

I need to change my phone soon and I really like the Pixel 7 Pro. But my issue with it is that I feel that Samsungs phones performs a bit better. I like the UI on the Pixel much better, but the camera (specially in the video department) is more rounded on the Samsung. I also use the Dex feature more than I thought and that also makes my decision tougher.

Hi Mike, great comparison. I've not been on iPhone since I switched to Google's Nexus then Pixel. I'm now on Pixel 7 Pro and the main reason is I'm on Google ecosystem everywhere even on my MacBook. But you forgot one important point, it's the resale value you sacrifice on Android. Even with the Pixel, it doesn't come close to the resale value of iPhone. Customers need to think about the actual cost of usage, like for a car, and not the initial acquisition price. If you upgrade phone often like every one or two years, the net cost of ownership will be far cheaper with iPhone even if you paid an heavier price when buying new; because the resale value is much better (or the depreciation is much less if you prefer). The real cost of the difference between initial acquisition cost and price of resale on the second market (minus also cost of maintenance but that's more for cars than smartphones). There's always a big demand and market for even a 3 years old iPhone. Not so much for any Android, including high end Samsung or Pixel.

Which conversely means that you can get a 1 year old Android for much less money than a 1 year old iPhone. My friend just bought a Samsung Galaxy 21FE for $350 very slightly used. That's a really good price for a phone that blows most $400 devices out of the water, save for maybe the Pixel 6A. Also, the overwhelming majority of the population does not upgrade every year or two.

Agreed. People make too much fuss - it's a tool. Somewhere in there brand loyalty turned into a thing - neither are perfect, and some things one does way better than the other. I've gone back and forth between the two as well. iPhone's integration wins hands down - which makes sense because of the control over the ecosystem. The openness of the Android platform, and Google's specific control over its Pixels make them fantastic! Unfortunately, there's no mash up of the two cause that'd really be a perfect phone.

It's a tool, except you have to consider what platform you're choosing and how it affects the world's ecosystem. Have you ever considered why hosting a few MB of files costs developers 30%, or why HDMI adapters for idevices are $60+ (I get ~2 to 6 of them for that price depending on where I buy) Or that all devices and cables have to be certified (I find it hilarious that battery packs that advertise that they're for iDevices still use microusb/type C because of the "apple tax")? Are you okay with their outright lies in advertising (most egregious: the siri ads) and press releases (privacy? LOOOOL)? Or how anti-3rd party repair they are? Or how they're okay with slowing down your phone due without telling you why so you just buy a new $1000+ phone instead of a $50 battery replacement? Buying into them means you tacitly agree that all of these are acceptable behaviors.

I stick with Android in general because of the ecosystem - my work requires Windows, so I use Windows at home as well, which means no Apple laptop and therefore no Apple anything. On the other hand, I might stick with Android anyhow because I have a real problem (and it is more a gut reaction than a reasoned out reaction) with the closed nature of Apple products. I guess I'm just a rebel at heart and never really got over the 60s lol. I stick with Pixel (I have owned a Pixel since the first generation) because I like getting plain Android, no bloatware from Samsung or others. Not that Samsung doesn't have some very nice features, but not worth it to me. The integration with the phone is why I will probably buy a Pixel watch for my next watch when it is time instead of sticking with Samsung (currently wearing Galaxy Watch 3).

The features are great all the AI and machine learning features and the Assistant are so helpful! And after using this voice dictation it would be hard to even switch to Samsung. One thing I noticed Mike mentioned though was 'hate from each side'. Android fanboys are primarily that way because of Apple fanboys at least most of them anyway. The hate mainly started because of the "high class" "I'm better than you because I have Airpods pods, and you're broke because you have android" people.

Here's the problem. You're running Android with a Mac. If you think you're going to get any semblance of integration with "hostile platforms" from an idevice... you're not. A *MUCH* better and tighter experience if you use Windows. EG. Nearby Share, Your Phone, etc. etc. For Samsung, it's better, as they have things like DEX / Flow and other continuity solutions for Macs. Yes, you'd have to change up a lot... but Android in general is known for being better at tailoring to your behaviors. I have and love my iPad Air .. it’s wonderful .. as for the iPhone that is a totally different matter .. the 1 thing that I’m having the most difficulty with is gesture back .. on an Android it works basically whenever you swipe .. but with the iPhone it’s a hit or miss .. at times it’ll take you back but other times there may be an arrow in the upper left to take you back (just make it all or both) .. I do miss a fingerprint reader .. and I’m used to once my facial recognition has recognized me the phone opens up .. but NOT with the iPhone .. you have to swipe up (why? or just give me the option in settings to open or make me open it .. .. but I’m waiting for the delivery of my Pixel 7 Pro .. and I’ll pick between the 2 ..

As a tech guy i must say i lik Pixel 7 Pro BUT as you said its not just switching from one phone to the other, its the "ecosystem", meaning, by far the best laptop is MacBook Pro with M1 and M2 chips, the best watch is Apple watch Ultra and having iPhone makes it easy to to work with Apple devices. On the other hand when it comes to video, I don't think any phone can beat iPhone's camera for video. It has ProRes Raw. Pixel is a little buggy in my experience. Google has to come up with a lot better ecosystem for someone like me to switch from iPhone to Pixel phone.

Hi Mike ! I used to be a fan boy for apple. Apple 4-7 But hen I had a problem with the 7+ and of course everyone found out that Apple was throttling the older Iphones and thats when I went over to Samsung and to be honest I've never been happier !

How do you manage the switch with the cloud things? Photos, calendar, contacts. I tried to switch from years of Android usage to Apple several times. Always ending with using Google’s apps on the iPhone.

Great comparison! I wish you also covered the best camera for people with shaky hands ...that's a big issue for me and would be the deciding factor between the two phones. I am using a Galaxy S10, I know it's pretty old, but I really enjoyed using it after I switched over from an iPhone. I am usually happy with the picture quality but I do have to keep very still. Husband had iPhone 12 and I had the same issue with that one too when it comes to taking pictures. Only people with shaky hands will know what I mean ...

This has to be the most unbiased review of phones that there is out there. I really like your approach of not trying to prove that one is better than the other when they are both superior pieces of technology that have their own features that they excel at which is one of the best reasons to base one’s choice on. I am an iPhone user because it’s what I’m most comfortable with and I like the design of the operating system and camera in general but there sure are some nice aspects to android that I wish I had. I think if I had the money I would consider owning the Pixel 7 Pro in addition to my iPhone 13 Pro Max and be able to play with both of them perhaps switching on different days or maybe sometimes carrying both but just experiment with the experience of enjoying the superior aspects of one of them some of the time and pick up the other one whenever the mood strikes.

I've enjoyed your unbiased review. Lots of KZbinrs claim to be unbiased with the Apple vs Android conversation, yet you can see their bias. I don't seem to see any true bias from you in regard to attempting to persuade me to wanting one over the other, you seem to simply be providing a real unbiased review, and giving your opinion secondly to that, and I appreciate that. I switched to an iPhone 4 years ago primarily because of an app. An app called Real Listing for RealEstate. Haven’t been go back to Android ever since. But I did hold the pixel pro max and it made me think about switching.

I like that in your reviews you actually do sound very impartial/fair and leave it to the viewer to make a personal choice. I was a Samsung owner for 7 years and switched to the iPhone 14 pro max. I am loving it so far. For me, the most significant difference is on how great the apps work on iPhone. They're just more refined. I only miss the 100x zoom of the Samsung, yet iPhone takes great video. Cheers.

pixel 7 pro has much better AI and transcription and translation plus better editing for picture and AI options for calling. Google beats apple when it comes to software imo but Apple definitely best in hardware and software to hardware optimization.

Great review, and the first person I've seen to bring up social media quality which is something that I feel is underdiscussed. By any chance, can you let me know if there is still the issue where sending Android photos on Messenger results in lower quality photos between Android and iOS? I know this is likely a Messenger issue but honestly it always bothers me when I try to send pictures to friends.

the only problem here is... pixel performance is really poor... from the time you launch the camera, the app crashes, and os freezes... it is something you dont see so freq from an iphone... thats probably the biggest adv here. iphone performance is butter smooth... pixel is so annoying when it lags so bad. i am on a pixel 7 pro after a year... ill get now the iphone 15 pro max.... ill miss some of google editing tools and features but ill gain for sure a non nerve breaking phonewhen i pick the iphone 15 pro max.

Objectivity, I like it Mike. It also gives you a chance to provide perspectives on & from both sides, i.e. Android & Apple & that it is nice to see. And I like & the fact that you acknowledge that you have tried & tend to switch back & 'n forth & that you are not a 'fan boy' of any one particular brand or phone is really awesome. I have always used Android myself because I don't want to get deeply intertwined into any 'ecosystem' & I just bought & will be switching over the Pixel 7 very soon.

I used several Android phones before. My only problem is that all my previous Android phones got damaged faster. They didn’t last more than a year and a half maximum. I used my iPhone Xr for almost 4 years and half. Now, I switched to iPhone 14 plus. I love iPhones precisely because they are durable. Taking about features both iOS and Android are really good.
