I see a lot of people asking if I am actually switching or just doing this for the video. I get that a lot of creators do that, but I am legitimately switching. I feel very strongly about my closing statements in this video. In order to maintain my credibility and honesty in videos, I cannot have brand loyalty or biases. Every year, I switch between iOS and Android, and this year will be an android year for me. The switch is so annoying (thanks to Apple's hurdles) but I am making it happen. Don't believe me? Making the switch is definitely more annoying going from apple to android. I had s7 then to xr and I think next year Ill go with the next pixel 8. I just want google assistant and the ability to back up my photos locally. You can technically transfer photos to Windows now but if you have 1000+ photos its going to freeze and not finish. It suuuucks. I ended up paying for more cloud storage and then downloading from there. Pretty annoying. The biggest loss will be facetime as my fiance and I always use it. She doesnt want me to switch because of that and the emojis and stuff but idk if its all that big of a deal. Google really needs to focus on video capture though. From what Ive seen it can be good to absolute trash. Pictures seem really good but they need to improve the video quality by a lot.

I'm doing the same this year. I think Apples ecosystem is unrivalled but Google is catching up and innovating more quickly. The Google phones are definitely more fun but Apple has a more clean feel to it. Just a personal opinion. I went from a Samsung (used basically all Google apps though) and switched to an iPhone 14 Pro due to emergency SOS. One thing that surprised me, and really makes me want to go back, is how much better Google seems to be at being an actual phone. Spam detection is far better than on an iPhone, which is generally blanket blocking all calls from an unknown number, and the same is true for spam texts. I often get texts from vendors, one time passcodes, or coworkers and Google Messages is smart enough to pass those through to my inbox as opposed to in the unknown numbers folder which I often don't ever see. Other things that Google just destroys iPhones at are the keyboard quality (GBoard is just miles ahead of iOS keyboard) as well as the cross platform integration, especially if you use Google One.
@laurentiupopa50012 жыл бұрын
emergency sos and crash detection ahave been on pixel for 3 years. you can even set a time interval, and the phone will check back on you. if you don't respond, it will call your emergency contacts and share the location. very useful if you have to walk in sketchy areas.
@whenhen2 жыл бұрын

I have had an iPhone for almost 8 years now (6s then the 11), but I am thinking to go to the pixel because... honestly? I absolutely hate the iPhone's photo storing system. I remember an old Android I had years ago, and if I put a photo in an album, it would actually go into that folder and not show up on the 'camera roll'. We have thousands of pictures, screenshots etc these days and it's a pain in the arse scrolling through all of it to find something that you didn't duplicate into an album. I just want it to be organised. Plus I love Google photos, it's so much easier to get all my photos in one place rather than having to have a secondary app. Thanks for your review, makes me feel better about making the switch.

Excellent video and very helpful. I switched to an iPhone 13 Pro Max after using a Pixel for many years but I’m thinking about switching back to the pixel 7. There are two things that are never mentioned in any review which has me thinking about going back. One, there are many third-party apps where you cannot increase the font size on the iPhone. It may sound minor, but for me it’s not. KZbin studio is an example. No matter what you do on an iPhone, the font size stays the same. Also, being able to text through my work PC is something that I used to do all the time on android. Doesn’t look like Apple will never allow your iMessage from a browser. That would be a game changer if they did.

I agree about the apps not respecting the system text size. As someone with horrible vision, it means that I basically need to hold the iPhone a few inches from my face if I'm not wearing glasses. Given how common this is, I'm surprised that Apple hasn't made respecting system text size a requirement for all apps on the app store, save for maybe games where it's impractical. That’s exactly the move I’m making! Trading in my iPhone 13 Pro Max for a Pixel 7 Pro I have on order in Hazel with their super good trade in offers. I’ll let you know what I think, but for me, it comes down to a few things: 1) frustrations with iOS 16. UI bugs have become a norm here, and it seems to be happening to a lesser extent on my work cell (iPhone 12) 2) I miss KZbin Vanced and Adaway; well, vanced is dead but revanced lives on. You could have a truly ad free experience on android. 3) I have a secondary work iPhone for iMessage/FaceTime related needs. 4) browser texting was killer! 5) google assistant. I legit cannot stand Siri. 6) iOS just feels so… lazy. I really don’t like having to wait for slow-as-molasses animations to finish doing their thing before I can tap on, and of course, there’s no way to change animation speeds outside of “reducing motion” in accessibility which makes using your phone feel like a windows movie maker project. 7) need. That. Call. Screening. I have to answer every call that comes my way in my current position.

Hi Mike, great comparison. I've not been on iPhone since I switched to Google's Nexus then Pixel. I'm now on Pixel 7 Pro and the main reason is I'm on Google ecosystem everywhere even on my MacBook. But you forgot one important point, it's the resale value you sacrifice on Android. Even with the Pixel, it doesn't come close to the resale value of iPhone. Customers need to think about the actual cost of usage, like for a car, and not the initial acquisition price. If you upgrade phone often like every one or two years, the net cost of ownership will be far cheaper with iPhone even if you paid an heavier price when buying new; because the resale value is much better (or the depreciation is much less if you prefer). The real cost of the difference between initial acquisition cost and price of resale on the second market (minus also cost of maintenance but that's more for cars than smartphones). There's always a big demand and market for even a 3 years old iPhone. Not so much for any Android, including high end Samsung or Pixel.

Which conversely means that you can get a 1 year old Android for much less money than a 1 year old iPhone. My friend just bought a Samsung Galaxy 21FE for $350 very slightly used. That's a really good price for a phone that blows most $400 devices out of the water, save for maybe the Pixel 6A. Also, the overwhelming majority of the population does not upgrade every year or two.

I am finding that more of the services if preferred the past are switched from Apple to Google: browser, map, photo, storage, calendar and word processer & spreadsheet. The only thing I will miss is the booking keeping app (Banktivity), which will take me a while to find and migrate to an android alternative (scary). In the past, it has been so seamless to migrate data to upgrade to another iPhone, I don’t know what to do when transition from an iPhone to a Pixel. Can anyone help? Agreed. People make too much fuss - it's a tool. Somewhere in there brand loyalty turned into a thing - neither are perfect, and some things one does way better than the other. I've gone back and forth between the two as well. iPhone's integration wins hands down - which makes sense because of the control over the ecosystem. The openness of the Android platform, and Google's specific control over its Pixels make them fantastic! Unfortunately, there's no mash up of the two cause that'd really be a perfect phone.
@eyevan7364 Жыл бұрын
It's a tool, except you have to consider what platform you're choosing and how it affects the world's ecosystem. Have you ever considered why hosting a few MB of files costs developers 30%, or why HDMI adapters for idevices are $60+ (I get ~2 to 6 of them for that price depending on where I buy) Or that all devices and cables have to be certified (I find it hilarious that battery packs that advertise that they're for iDevices still use microusb/type C because of the "apple tax")? Are you okay with their outright lies in advertising (most egregious: the siri ads) and press releases (privacy? LOOOOL)? Or how anti-3rd party repair they are? Or how they're okay with slowing down your phone due without telling you why so you just buy a new $1000+ phone instead of a $50 battery replacement? Buying into them means you tacitly agree that all of these are acceptable behaviors.

I stick with Android in general because of the ecosystem - my work requires Windows, so I use Windows at home as well, which means no Apple laptop and therefore no Apple anything. On the other hand, I might stick with Android anyhow because I have a real problem (and it is more a gut reaction than a reasoned out reaction) with the closed nature of Apple products. I guess I'm just a rebel at heart and never really got over the 60s lol. I stick with Pixel (I have owned a Pixel since the first generation) because I like getting plain Android, no bloatware from Samsung or others. Not that Samsung doesn't have some very nice features, but not worth it to me. The integration with the phone is why I will probably buy a Pixel watch for my next watch when it is time instead of sticking with Samsung (currently wearing Galaxy Watch 3).

Yes I agree! There is a rebel part to it, I like to be different lol and I like what Google's version of Android brings. The features are great all the AI and machine learning features and the Assistant are so helpful! And after using this voice dictation it would be hard to even switch to Samsung. One thing I noticed Mike mentioned though was 'hate from each side'. Android fanboys are primarily that way because of Apple fanboys at least most of them anyway. The hate mainly started because of the "high class" "I'm better than you because I have Airpods pods, and you're broke because you have android" people.

Here's the problem. You're running Android with a Mac. If you think you're going to get any semblance of integration with "hostile platforms" from an idevice... you're not. Nearby Share, Your Phone, etc. etc. For Samsung, it's better, as they have things like DEX / Flow and other continuity solutions for Macs. Great review, and the first person I've seen to bring up social media quality which is something that I feel is underdiscussed. By any chance, can you let me know if there is still the issue where sending Android photos on Messenger results in lower quality photos between Android and iOS? I know this is likely a Messenger issue but honestly it always bothers me when I try to send pictures to friends.

the only problem here is... pixel performance is really poor... from the time you launch the camera, the app crashes, and os freezes... it is something you dont see so freq from an iphone... thats probably the biggest adv here. iphone performance is butter smooth... pixel is so annoying when it lags so bad. i am on a pixel 7 pro after a year... ill get now the iphone 15 pro max.... ill miss some of google editing tools and features but ill gain for sure a non nerve breaking phonewhen i pick the iphone 15 pro max.

Objectivity, I like it Mike. It also gives you a chance to provide perspectives on & from both sides, i.e. Android & Apple & that it is nice to see. And I like & the fact that you acknowledge that you have tried & tend to switch back & 'n forth & that you are not a 'fan boy' of any one particular brand or phone is really awesome. I have always used Android myself because I don't want to get deeply intertwined into any 'ecosystem' & I just bought & will be switching over the Pixel 7 very soon.

Yeah I think it's important to not become too entrenched in one ecosystem or the other. Switching wasn't as hard as I expected. Even the eSIM wasn't bad

I used several Android phones before. My only problem is that all my previous Android phones got damaged faster. They didn’t last more than a year and a half maximum. I used my iPhone Xr for almost 4 years and half. Now, I switched to iPhone 14 plus. I love iPhones precisely because they are durable. Taking about features both iOS and Android are really good.
