He should have been caught long before the last victim. So many red flags that officers simply ignored or brushed off. Even at the end they couldn't put two and two together until it was right in front of their faces

It only seems obvious now.. Who would've thought such things wud happen. And cops probably had to check things out that weren't actually nothing, consistently. Also, they probably had seen many weird but not serious crime to make them shrug off some things. They too r humans, and cannot know everything.

@@clarkkent1523 oh, he wasn't the last person he murdered? I've gotta go back and refresh my swiss cheese memory. That's the dude I was thinking of: the barely-teenage boy who managed to escape, and the cops handed him back to Dahmer. So awful. The perfect storm of racism and homophobia: "Oh, Theres gay stuff going on, we all know how weird those gay dudes can get. Just take your confused, drugged, battered and handcuffed teenaged boy back home, and don't bother us cops again." I hope his family sued that police department. The cops couldn't even just call his family, or a friend, to check and see if everything was on the up and up? Just *believe* the guy who has the handcuff keys? It makes me so angry. 😭

In prison he used to decorate his food in a way that resembled severed limbs, complete with ketchup as blood. This always freaked out the other inmates. Two people escaped from him. One was a young kid (14 years old I’m pretty sure), and the other was the man in the beginning of this. The young kid was one of the people Dahmer tried to turn into a zombie. It didn’t work and the kid got out and tried to get help from two women passing by, both the women and the kid where poc so the cops didn’t take them seriously. Dahmer convinced the cops it was a lover’s quarrel, he killed the kid once they got back to the apartment. The second guy was white so they took him seriously and actually tried to help.

The crazy thing is he probably could’ve gotten away again if he really wanted too. If he would’ve left his apartment and had the handcuff key in his pocket, he could’ve just told the cops it was a misunderstanding between lovers and unlocked the handcuff and lied his way out of the situation like he did with the 14-year-old boy. The cops didn’t want to really have to deal with that situation and they would’ve just believed him. I think he was ready to be caught and I’m glad he was. His terror finally came to an end.
