My oldest is 16 and in his senior year of high school. He plays football but I don’t care for sports scholarships I care about academic scholarships. I taught him that at the end of the day football is temporary an education and him having a career is not. I stress over him going to college at 17 but it is what it is.
@Liamluv7072 жыл бұрын
It’s coming out more & more how much the NFL covers up the severity of the concussion & head injuries that their players suffer on a fairly regular basis causing the start of a disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE. Many players will also deny or minimize injuries, instead choosing a temporary solution like a pain or steroid injection so that they can stay in the game. CTE doesn’t exist just in football either! Anyone engaged in any type of contact sports have to be extra mindful, especially if they’re starting at a young age which makes them even more sucesible to CTE. After the entire Aaron Hernandez/Patriots debacle Aaron’s family chose to turn over his brain for diagnosis & further study. Scientists discovered that the 27 year old was indeed suffering from the worst case of CTE that they had seen so far! He had extensive damage to his various areas of his brain, akin to that of a 60 year old who had been playing contact sports his entire young adult & adult life. Again, as with everything, it all comes down to dollar signs & lining their pockets at the cost of the safety of our young kids. Parents need to be advocates for their kids & rally together for safer & stricter rules when playing contact sports!

They made him sit out half the season his senior year because of it

Every single kid is in sports & activities including zayden lol and it is a lot of work and time consuming as well. With all y'all do y'all still make time for them individually which is hard when you have multiple kids. Plus going on vacations lol Props to y'all! I completely agree with JJ’s and y’all’s decision. My husband and I asked our twins if they wanted us to hold them back cause their Birthday’s are in October so they started Kindergarten at the age of 4 and they ended up graduating and starting college at the age of 17 and they just weren’t ready for college at that point. We felt like they just weren’t mature enough at the age of 17 to move out and go to college. It’s one of our biggest regret’s! Needless to say they both ended up quitting college and moving back home cause they just weren’t ready for adult life at that age

This is where parents need to be honest and only do this if the child is an exceptionally gifted athlete. (We all believe our child is a gifted athlete) Doing what's right for a particular child. With that it's a decision that should be made carefully and thoughtfully-with the child's best interest. This is much different than your birthday falling after the school age cutoff. I wish JJ the best of luck! My son also attends Catholic school. Since Pre-K. I highly recommend it if you can afford it. You’re paying for safety and an enriched curriculum.

I have a July birthday and was usually one of the youngest in my friend groups but I liked not having to wait till I was 18 to graduate. Like by the time I started college I was already 18 so it didn't make a difference vs other people who got held back for their birthday or academically were almost 19 if not already like they were old. I feel like he should've been held back waaay younger because repeating higher grades is so much more work. Best of luck to JJ!
