Don't forget that certain micro-transactions as in loot-boxes are illegal in every new game since 2019 something, due to the consideration of seeing it as gambling. So if EA finds a loophole it will only last for 1 game and a very costy lawsuit by either the US or the EU, probably both.

It's more pathetic than tragic. Heat got two cars post-launch. Compare that tk Horizon 4 which got about THREE HUNDRED cars in its lifecycle. Honestly? I think that NFS is doomed to die. If you want things to change, you need to stop shoving money in EA's face. But if that happens, they'll just kill the franchise. Yet if the games keep selling like crazy, they'll never improve.

@@Gideon13397 the story sucked, I literally quit it two missions before the end and didn't get back into it until 9 months later. I didn't care by that point. The driving sucks, I've never played Payback so I can't compare it to Heat like all the diehard fans are, but if Heat sucked, I don't want to imagine Payback. The map also just feels empty, stale and boring. There's no scenery, it's just mountains and it feels lonely. The gameplay absolutely sucks. Its too grindy. And that's coming from someone who's put 5000 hours into Forza Horizon 4. The difference is that in Horizon 4, when you grind you're rewarded. You get free or cool stuff. In Heat you get maybe 10k. When you're saving up to buy a 2 million dollar car, that's nothing. It got boring fast

To be honest, I prefer the NFS Heat route than Payback and other EA games. No microtransaction BS, no stupid grind to make you expend real money, no loot boxes. I don't want invest my time on a game flooded with DLC/microtransactions, bad grinding and loot boxes, no matter what. Yeah, it sucks that the game does not gain long term support, but at least is a full game and you only have to pay for it once. My only problem with NFS Heat was the limit of comestic painting you were allowed to get from other users. And I wished there was a little more races with big money reward, so you did not have to rely on the challenges to earn quickly money after finish the campaign.

Considering that it's EA the game would have gone the GTA V way, it started as a fun game and now it's riddled with microtransactions and unnecessary things for multiplayer. Which is sad since single player is so much fun and that hasn't changed since 2013 with a few minor tweaks here and there for the 2015 8 gen release. I haven't played NFS Heat but it is on my wish list for the reason that the game is fun and you don't have to bother with any microtransactions, just like an old NFS game you play and you earn, maybe throw some DLC here and there which enhances the game and that's all I want from a game. But as it is right now the game seems really good to me I can excuse the brake to drift handling if the game is fun and engaging.

NFS Heat is a good template for what works in an NFS game, Criterion have a great basis in which to create amazing nfs titles. In the meantime, I think heat is one of the best nfs games. Fr I have so much fun just replaying the races in single player and collecting all the cars.

It can't be just that simple. Yes EA loves money and everything, we know, alright, but i don't think THAT was the reason NFS Heat was abandonned. I mean, Ghost had even planned Seasonal updates (there's proofs about it), meaning they could capitalize on it if they wanted, like The Crew 2 did. The Crew 2 is still alive because of the updates and shits, the base game isn't even that good. And we have to re-contextualize NFS Payback's situation too : It was 2017, EA was making Star Wars Battlefront 2 the same year. Why am I talking about it ? Because SWBF2 and NFS Payback both share the same issue : Microtransactions and RNG, leading to a shitty game where you wanna pay because you don't want to grind everyday, which is fair because... You just have a life and grinding on a shitty game isn't fun at all. I know some better games which are grindy AF and still pretty fun, and without the MTs bullshit. And guess what ? EA got sued in Belgium after that, and they had to make Battlefront 2 playable to keep some players after the shitstorm. Not sure they did for NFS Payback but... Well, NFS isn't THAT popular now, it's possible they didn't care. This leads to this conclusion : Have you seen recent EA games with that kind of bullshittery ? I'd say slightly less, and that's fair, because... EA loves money, but EA isn't THAT dumb to redo the same error. And as they stated in some articles i remember from 2019, Fifa and Apex Legends skins are already giving them a shit ton of money. And, lots of decisions made for Microtransactions in games aren't decided by developpers themselves, it's often the editors (in that case EA) who give directives about it. I'm not saying you're all wrong, i'm just saying it can't be that simple. They could milk NFS Heat to make money if they wanted. They didn't, the problem must be elsewhere. And still, 5 bucks just for one car, which is the only DLC Heat has to offer, no thanks, i'd rather get myself a Kebab or some shit, and i'm pretty sure lots of people thought the same. I think EA has a new strategy. They bought Codemasters (and SlightlyMad a the same time), meaning EA is now a HUGE editor for racing games. And everyone is talking about Ghost games and Criterion but... A lot of Ghost employees were originally from Criterion, and since Ghost's creation, Criterion was just a "support" studio composed of few people. Now lots of Ghost Games employees are back at Criterion. That's just that. They even cancelled the release of NFS 2021, which is crazy when you think about it, they broke the 2 years rule. I can't tell how everything is gonna turn, i'm not a mystical oracle or some shit, but i think EA has a new strategy, and they developped a great interest into making racing games somehow. That's kinda fair, i mean, in the 2000's EA was very popular BECAUSE of racing games, NFS games from the Underground/Most Wanted era were THE thing at the time. Let's see how it's gonna turn out, and let's be careful.

Very well put, I second a lot of this. I think EA’s real mistake here was the horrible timing of the re-merging of Ghost and Criterion, like that was probably planned to happen shortly after Ghost dropped “NFS 2019” whatever it was going to be, and then because EA is a massive sprawling corporation and not some monolithic entity, a whole bunch of bureaucracy meant no one told Ghost Games about it until after they had already planned a content update roadmap, and the reaction to discovering this was a “too bad, so sad.” Which, if that’s the case, I have an even stronger dislike for EA, because Heat, despite lacking many ways of monetizing it beyond launch, still seemed to sell really well. Shoulda been a message to EA that a rich list of fleshed-out features sells people a game more than grindy mechanics ever will, and yet they were so preoccupied with their own garbage that they thought letting it die was an “acceptable loss.” I guess the upshot is that they have clearly taken an interest in investing in the racing genre, perhaps because they’ve seen potential for crossover success in the current market, so yeah maybe it’s cause for some cautious optimism going forward as we see what their next play is.

@@lemonscented7703 yes apparently ghost games were dismantled as a “standalone” studio just a few weeks after Heat’s launch, that could explain the lack of updates since they were focusing on getting everyone out and putting criterion in charge of hotfixs as sources have said. The lack of communication could also be because of this, but I have another theory; I don’t know if EA has changed their work/hiring policies, but I do remember seeing that they mentioned an NDA agreement surrounding the discussion of upcoming updates, game features, and other stuff like that. Which is kinda dumb because why would they have a community manager if they can’t even talk about the game to the community that they’re supposed to be managing?! In conclusion EA blows as always.

1. I think the lack microtransactions was a move on EAs part after the massive backlash from Battlefront and Payback. 2. I always imagine a utopia need for speed where previous characters are cameoed and/or used in the new game, with awesome locations and updated real-time experience with other players, with an awesome story plot and twist. Designed in such a way that it keeps you playing without the microtransactions, or at least not too heavily where it completely negatively impacts your progression... who knows 🤷

I bought the game back in May. Played it for the first 2 weeks or so of June. The beginning was really fun. I had to grind up. I knew that I couldn’t risk having much police on me, since my car wasn’t too fast. It was after I finished the story that I felt I was growing bored. Sure, there are races and side missions to do. But it felt like stuff I didn’t have to do. I thought this game would have much more content.

You need to try Forza. Heat's map is boring, drab, brownish hills and mountains and a crappy city. Forza actually has a fair amount of variety in it. Fields, forests, lakes, rivers, towns, motorways, beaches, etc. Edit: before you accuse me of never playing Heat, I bought it at launch. It just really isn't as good as people say, it definitely doesn't hold up to past NFS games. People are just saying it's good because they don't want to admit the NFS franchise is probably on it's way out.

So this information provides an actionable method for getting people to join: character I've tried and tested this and it works. Build a "free roam" car for the purpose of making an impression on people. Give it a flashy eye-catching design. Get a custom horn sound. Put some sort of text on the car that's funny or amusing or meta, or referencing some real life event, and build the car for drifting or drag. Then what you want to do is go drift around people, or do wheelies, honking your horn for a couple of minutes and try get them to follow you, then take them to an event, start the event, then change to your RSR... I mean your serious car for racing. Or just join that Discord server like the other reply said.

the thing is the crew2 as almost everything in motor sports, the map is big, new york to los angeles and it takes about 30min to drive to one point and the other, it all soo as live summit events every week with nice rewards if you get high enough in the leader boards. i still play the crew 2 cus its nice for sweats.lol as for need for speed it was cool playing it for a bit with friends and trying to beat each other on drift trucks, but it got boring fast.

you really shuld not have been impressed with heat man :/ it had less realistic drifint phisics and car control than nfsu2 you had to shake wheel back and forth back and forther left and right left and right to keep drifts consistent a kinda indie game carx does it better and even crew 2 does drifitng better it had no end game content besides heat races the vynal system was heavily downgraded from 2015 and doesnt allow as many objects to place limiting what players could create? it had shit engine swaps that many of them didnt make sense some engines were stronger than ones they shuld not have been car sounds are shit and ea clearly seen it was a waste of money to give a studio another mill or more in funding to try and fix a shit game with no involving story to even try to pick up on the rest of the peices on the ground and did i mention the night time side of the game is far from what the majority of nfs community wanted :/ i put over 100 hours into this game and racing in sprints was ok but it lacked content even lacks races shuld be so many more races :/ still wishing a stuido would pick up the fan pitched idea of nfs tokyo nights :/

Another great video. I am old school . I want a need for speed like 2005 most wanted or the run with a good selection of cars. I want the story to be longer. Just my opinion. There needs to be fun in it above all else. Heat was good but no major attention getter to keep you hooked. The game play is great in Heat. The customization the best they ever had. The only thing Heat didn't have was the ability to make your own track.

NFS completely lost its track in 2012-2013..after those NFS launches, they completely lost the track of what their community wants, and for them its easier to publish games each 1-2 year then every 3+ years and have ongoing support..on other hand many older players see that as just quick cash grab cuz it is..ive long lost faith in EA cuz sometimes for success u gotta sacrifice, and they dont do sacrifices according to their financial plans. so there it is, ive lost all hope efter nfs 2015, and ive been playing nfs; since early 2000. been looking for a game worth (for me) buying complete sim racing set (steering wheels pedals etc) in this kinda genre but just isnt there. also on side note;this Criterion isnt the old Criterion. i did a research on that subject 4-6months back, and see how they; EA teared it apart.

They should do something similar to what we see in Forza Horizon 4 with Wheel Spins and Super Wheel Spins. Put rare vehicles, clothes, and car upgrades in there and throw events around the map that spawn at random times to earn some NFS points. And if players are tired of those events, they can start buying NFS points to spin the wheel. I sometimes wish Forza Horizon 4 had microtransaction because of how incredibly unlucky I am with those spins. lol

I honestly like this game i like the challenges you have to complete if you want to unlock some accessories for your cars. The graphics were amazing, I like the difference where if you race during the day you get money, but if you race during the night you gotta rank up to show the other racers that you mean business.

I’ve played the last 3 NfS games. I just couldn’t get the lack of pause functionality in NfS(2015) I only play it for 30 minutes and return the game. The handling in Heat was to unresponsive and over sensitive at the same time. I honestly played Payback more then NfS(2015) and Heat, yet I hardly played, maybe 4 or 5 hours at most. Not being able to mod the look of my car bothered me at first but I just went with it. The gameplay felt solid, the handling felt right and it was fun driving around.

There was a leaked Render of the post launch update roadmap for heat - battle pass, crew controlled territory, monthly car drops, speedcross and drag updates. Apparently the lack of talent from ghost in multiplayer caused the shut down of the studio.
