Its crazy to see how NA and Japan sees the character. NA they think Sora is dog water mid tier. While in Japan, he’s a top 15 fighter. Kameme just shows how people heavily slept on Sora. I think the problem is that it's really hard to tell how much time a top player has put into sora because it's mostly going to time spent mastering positioning and movement with a super floaty character. It's much easier when you see them do crazy combos and tech to see they have put in the time and none of the sora players have started incorporating Sora's combos or ledge trap setups yet, so its hard to tell because "X" top player's sora has the same advantage state as a sora on elite smash has just with a better neutral.

Hoping his confidence in maining the character keeps up, he looks more comfortable now than he did with Megaman in earlier ultimate, and he just motivated many Sora fans to put in more time and care for this character. At 3 bars you can choose between valor and wisdom form on the d-pad left or right, and in wisdom form he gains a lot more projectiles, the ability to move while using magic but loses close quarters options and speed. They should also have a chance that when you go into any form you have a chance that increases the more you go in and out of drive forms that you go into anti form in which you're unable to use projectiles, you stop being a swordy, it forces you to lose all of your gauge but you gain a lot of speed and you basically become rabid little mac with a bit less kill potential.

My final conclusion from maining Sora since his release and playing a few friendlies across lots of different character representatives, he has the tools and the fundamentals to beat most matchups. While they may not be perfectly even with some of the faster more aggressive characters (fox is a huge issue for example), he definitely doesn't just hard lose to most characters. We all know what Sora can do, its now just a matter of doing it. Slingshot has some nice applications with some upair followups that make his upb confirms more true, so I can't wait to see that implemented given enough time. There is always at least one person that represents a character just due to pride/bias reasons alone (or just to prove people wrong), and I think we all know who that is. Sora in my eyes is bottom of top tier, around 12-15th based on somebodies top tier list. He has issues with small characters and does great against big characters. He's slow like incineroar so he can be camped in a similar way, you can play really slow and campy with him as well but there are characters that do it better. Upair is one of his biggest DLC moves, definitely underused. Firaga ledge slip helps setup edgeguards on a good chunk of characters, forcing them either high or low which Sora can cover. Nair1 ff covers every ledge option bar some disjoints when you can time the opponents tempo well because of how well it encompasses Sora, but again it is a hard read on the opponents timing. If only IDJ nair was easier to do in this game without buffering (maybe hitting 2 jump buttons at the same time does it perfectly), and if the hitbox of nair was made a little more lenient for the good hitbox (right now the middle bad hitbox overlaps the good hitbox, so you have to hit it really well on the end of the keyblade to get the +10f advantage) he would for sure be a much more consistent character. Where he is now he's top tier, but very bottom of top tier.

All Sora had to do to become Broken like the Other 5 Members, would have been making him a tiny bit more accurate to his game. AKA make it so that he doesn't go into free fall after Up-B and can use it chain into combos, make it so that his Dair doesn't leave him going straight down but be momentum based like the actual Hurricane Period and make his Counter also Reflect. Which is all accurate to how those moves works in KH1.

You know, I wonder how many people actually do or don't want a port of Ultimate that *only* fixes the problems and limitations on the hardware rather than add or change anything from the roster we have now. Like, getting a few more missing or requested stages, 4K/120fps, less input delay from controller, lagless online, get rid or overhaul world of light, say to add subspace levels to every single spirit battle. Also at that point we gain new cutscenes and even nintendo commercials that double down on Sora and the DLC gang joining Kirby to restore the world because Kirby is alone in the base game, but if you have the DLC and play world of light, you have like 14 characters to start from.

I feel like from a design perspective sora is probably the laziest dlc character considering he has other normals and magic spells that couldve circumvented these problems or made him more of a well rounded character. They purposefully limited themselves in terms of moveset (kingdom hearts 1) which seems lazy considering kazuya came out with twice the normals of the average character and rewriting the entire games code just for steve.

His auto target side b is also pretty good in that environment and his general floatiness makes him easy to keep track of. My reason is that he sucks, he has the most dlc recovery but the least dlc combos and kill potential, he's slow, big, and light -has the same issues as mewtwo but somehow lacks kill power and the mixups mewtwo has he''s next to banjo as a solid WORST DLC CHARACTER, most of other dlcs can touch you and take you from 0 to 60% on a single string that doesn't require much technical execution but with sora not only can't do that nearly as easily but you gotta fish for openings while not really having real zoning potential nor approach options

To give my thoughts on this, I believe him being weaker in competitive is justified. It’s worth noting that Sora, while having a lot of experience, isn’t actually trained in fighting, with this game using his appearance from the first game where his experience in battle came from a timeframe of a few weeks at the most. Meanwhile a lot of the other characters either do have training or have years more experience. If it was another Kingdom Hearts character like Eraqus or Terra then we’d have AOE and freaking nuclear cannons to worry about. I never cared for competitive play and Sakurai did try to make Sora as close to his first appearance as possible, before he gained OP abilities like form changes, keyblade transformations and time travel (though that last one would forfeit his life) so he’s very weak, pretty much intentionally and is more suited for those that like Kingdom Hearts.

Yes he failed to become a SOLDIER but by the end he was able to scale to Sephiroth, even after he became a god. Also unlike Sora he still has all his powers such as the Advent Children movie and while it was reset in the remakes continuity he shows even more power than he had in the original continuity. Sora is a normal teenage boy from an island with little to no experience outside of his home until the events of his world being destroyed and tends to lose his powers a lot. While he still has two years (technically 1 year due to his coma) of having *potential* experience, his *actual* experience keeps getting stolen from him. In chronological order he lost them as a result of Castle Oblivion’s amnesia inducing effects, lost what he regained after that due to getting his original memories restored at the cost of his new ones, lost his new powers in order to get formal training during his Mark of Mastery exam, lost those powers after nearly getting body snatched and drained, and while we have yet to see if the same will happen again considering he *died* and is trapped in a fictional world with new abilities it’s likely he lost his powers *again.* Cloud doesn’t have that problem and he’s likely based on his Advent Children version since he uses a different Final Smash depending on if he’s using the Buster Sword or his Fusion Sword which is the replacement he used in the movie. Now I love Sora as a character, out of all the characters Nomura worked on I prefer Sora over Cloud by a long shot even if I feel Cloud is way more interesting. However I also feel that even though Sora can regain his lost powers at fast rates and thus is way more versatile this isn’t the case in Smash and Cloud would be stronger by far.

Since getting the Keyblade Sora has gotten superhuman abilities and even though he loses his abilities he still retains his overall experience and gains brand new abilities extremely quickly as you already noted. Even in KH3 when he was depowered, He can already summon magical amusement park rides out of nowhere which demonstrates that he still has his magical experience from DDD, and his agility such as Flowmotion from said game. Now I agree that in Smash if it's Advent Children Cloud of course he's going to be stronger than a KH1 era Sora. I was mostly referring to the two characters when they were growing up before their adventure.
