There are plenty of talented musicians (even more talented, knowledgeable, passionate and hard-working than her) who never have access to that kind of visibility, not because they lack the talent, but because they lack connections, luck, timing, the looks, marketability, maybe because they’re simply born in a small country and don’t have the chance to move abroad, or simply because they are songwriters or instrumentalists, who by default do not get the same recognition that singers get, despite the fact that they work just as hard or even harder. She was ambitious and she worked hard, but she also got lucky and is now in a position to hold an amount of wealth that’s hard to comprehend (and that many consider even unethical, given the inequality that there is in this world) and that allows her to never work an other day in her life while being revered like a Goddess. She’s in a privileged position, she is a billionaire and a mega celebrity. I am not saying that she’s a bad person or that she didn’t earn her money, I am just stating a fact. There are people like Einstein who dedicated their whole lives to science and changed forever our understanding of the world who didn’t even make 1 million in their whole lives. It’s not just about hard work, there are many other factors that Rihanna benefited from

It’s interesting how Rihanna’s brand has become synonymous with authenticity when for the majority of her career she agreed to be a corporate product, not writing or composing her music. A lot of her albums were manufactured at writing camps. Edit : these responses are wild. I wasn’t throwing shade, I’m actually a fan. It was merely an observation to point out the irony. Rihanna injects so much of her personality into whatever she does, to the point where her authenticity was rarely questioned. She’s quite the anomalous Pop star in that respect. An example of artist who wrote more but is still perceived as inauthentic would be somebody like Mariah Carey. Ironically people on the street would take the view that Rihanna is far more authentic than Mariah, despite Riri penning far less of her catalogue than Mariah did with hers. Rihanna’s essence and personality will always bridge any authenticity gap, whether it be in music or other business endeavours.
