seumsteadt, I have to agree, sad though it is. I don't understand the activities of the main contenders in this issue as you have named them, or their actions. My biggest problem with them is that they were given something far greater than they were, and instead of having respect for what they were given, and striving to understand their commission and their task, they wrapped something truly great in their own mediocrity, and proved themselves far less. I will be forever in the dark as to why it has become necessary to replace competence with ideology..... Surely there must be at least one person at the helm in this idiotic saga that recognises the problem?

An apology is definitely due to the fans, but the bigger problem has, in my opinion, more to do with recapturing fans that have already given up on this franchise. I actually liked rogue one for the most part even though I thought Jyn was a pretty boring character, but the gross intake on that film wasn't terrible. It was pretty modest on production and revenues, so it wasn't a major indicator on damage to the brand, but the indicator has gotten far more obvious with SOLO being a straight box office bomb. By even a favorable projection right now SOLO doesn't look like they will even sniff their breakeven point of $875 - $900M. I just don't think that a simple apology and even Disney / Lucasfilm distancing themselves from Kennedy before the week is out does enough for the brand. It seems like many of the fans have simply said enough and wrote the franchise off.

It's amazing if you think about it. You would think that somebody would have to try very hard to ruin a juggernaut of a franchise such as Star Wars. Admittedly the prequels weren't the best, but I think at this point anyone would have learned lessons from them to ensure that the current films were right back up there in terms of quality. Why did they just hand the franchise over to somebody who is so inept? I'd be interested to know apart from her producing experience what creative criteria KK was hired on which gave them so much confidence in her ability to steer this particular ship? I'm not saying that she can't produce, but I'm wondering what made Disney believe that she qualified as a person to take on the role as a visionary in the way we see a George Lucas, or a Kevin Feige. Because I'm not seeing a strong plan here, which was also suggested in the video.

Coffeeshunter actually the Star Wars prequels movies were pretty good especially in comparison to everything that's come out lately like The Last Jedi and Solo... George Lucas made six really good movies and people don't give him enough credit for it... Jar Jar Binks sucked but aside from that the prequel movies were great to be honest... I'm pretty sure the entire Star Wars fan base would give anything to have a movie as good as one of the prequels now LMFAO... the reason Kathleen Kennedy's in charge of Lucas Films is because she was a personal friend of George Lucas's I believe ind she personally convinced him to sell the rights with her installed as the head of Lucas Films by promising that she would always be true to his Creative Vision and would never let anything bad happen to the Star Wars franchise or their beloved characters LMFAO she lied... The reason Marvel has done so well is because they had a creative head in Fiege that has been wise enough to keep the universe in order and fairly in line with the spirit of the comics and characters. Disney and Lucasfilm have been too wrapped up in using the Star Wars franchise as an outlet for political activism (feminism, gender equality, racial diversity) while ignoring plot, character development and every other basic rule of good storytelling and film making. Marvel is a well oiled machine while Star Wars now is a gross clusterfuck of idealistic propaganda. The love for Star Wars could save it but Lucasfilm is going to have to get a creative head that loves the franchise as much as Fiege. For what it's worth, the DCverse has exactly the same problem as Star Wars.

A very good summation. I’m one of the people who didn’t like any of Kathleen Kennedy’s Star Wars movies. I found them a hackneyed poorly written feminist revision of the old movies that did little more than put a woman in Luke’s role and then throw Luke in the trash. The prequel trilogy was released when they were college students, and they hated it. The Force Awakens was just a big blockbuster film that was as intended to resurrect the feeling of classic Star Wars, and RLM admitted that in their review. I just laugh at the John Campea picture because it looks like he just took a dump in his pants. LOL. But yeah; the Yahoo article has it so down as to why Star Wars has faltered. This is pure anedotal evidence, but my nephews who are eleven and twelve, respectively, told me how they didn't like The Last Jedi but loved Infinity War. Note, they love Star Wars and enjoyed TFA. So really, Kennedy has made an utter mess of this situation. Combined with shrinking merchandise, Disney stock flucuating and a whole bit of drama, I expect that the shareholders won't be happy by this. Especially, with the negative press coverage. And thus, I can see Kennedy's reign, sooner or later, coming to an end.

Thanks for the vid. I hope everyone knows how bad episode IX will be and avoids it well. Jar jar and KK have had there way with it and I don't think there's any salvaging the story or remaining characters. All that's left is to butcher the corpse of the OT, at least what little remains of it. Why do I keep thinking there doing it on purpose? Tearing down the franchise to start again? Remake the entire thing for a new generation, a less discerning audience without the hassle of the old fans and there quaint desire for well written characters and developed stories. But then again they could just be incompetent and insane.

There's only three Star Wars Movies (1977, 1980 & 1983). Have these in your collection and in your memories. Enjoyed the video and the wonderful takedowns. But in defense of RLM, they liked one out of the four new SW films. That’s not worth insinuating much. Mike sheepishly said he loved TFA. Jay was surprised by it, but also called it The Farce Awakens for being a retread. Rich said it was competent, but that it was an SW movie that “seemed to take place in a retirement home.” The Plinkett video a year later had more issues with the money-hungry Disney execs plans of pumping out new content all the time. It wasn’t as many issues with the movie itself, and he still called it a “well-made movie” nine months after its release. The retreading was the only thing they called out. But he even says a lot of the homages are acceptable. They were criticizing Disney itself long before the narrative went too far in the other direction. I don’t agree with Mike in liking TFA, but that doesn’t mean he was “bought and paid for.” I’d legitimately like to see his examples, because I know this guy doesn’t spew things just for the hell of it.

I wouldn’t mind stand alones if they were good. But you need fans to write these. Larry Kasdan was heard saying he was burned out from Star Wars... oh. Ok why make it then? Hire experienced directors, CAST APPROPRIATE ACTORS! Ehrenreich? Kid Hasselhoff? See the lack of joy, the fandom in the company... all of it hurt Star Wars. whoaaaaa lets leave Red Letter Media out of this. At no point did they get "bought and paid for" Go watch their Rogue one and Last Jedi reviews neither are all to praising about the movie. Solo has been their most positive video on star wars in a long time and Jay even said he hated it and was bored until the last 20 minutes. Watch the solo predictions video where they go over how things are "too stupid to not be in the movie". Mike Jay and Rich are honest, they just liked TFA but even Rich said in that episode that it was a little too safe. These Plinkett reviews take time, I'm sure you'll see plenty of shitting on TLJ when that review is finally out.
