Reasons why Tesla should build their giant factory in Indonesia: 1) Natural Resources: as you said, Indonesia is the no.1 nickel producer. Larger reserves and cheaper raw materials. 2) Human Resources: Indonesia is the 4th largest population in the world (270 million people) that can provide tons of cheap labors (low level, middle level and top level). 3) Markets: Indonesia have more than 145 million used cars in 2022, largest car user in their regions. Which from those 145 millions used car, 1/5 (29 million cars) will be replaced to electric cars. Which means, Indonesia alone have the highest potential market for lithium/battery and cars.

@UniversalExpanse 1) All roads have cutting risk. 2) Why people would turn on the FSD in high traffic roads? Most of people used FSD in highway. In Indonesia, bikes are not allowed to use highway. 3) FSD is not the main reason why people began to changed their cars into EV. It just the additional technology.

The only reason for Tesla to go to Indonesia is the Indonesian government's regulations banning export of nickel to overseas nickel refining plants. Every other material going into those battery cells, and into the cars themselves will have to be imported into Indonesia, and then some of the cars will have to be exported overseas. OK, so there are some advantages to being in Indonesia, such as low labour costs, and there is an existing auto manufacturing industry, which explains why Indonesia, not Australia is a preferred location for making batteries and EV's, in spite of Australia also being a source of ore for lithium, cobalt and aluminium as well as nickel and probably other minerals as well. What goes against Australia is our high labour costs here and the death of our auto manufacturing industry thanks to GM, Ford and other industry heavyweights, shutting down their plants in 2017. However, that was under the previous government, and our new government is said to be pro new energy, so who knows, maybe Australia can get a bit of the Tesla action too one day. Maybe we need some draconian law here banning nickel exports. Not likely, of course, but who knows?

Indonesia banning raw nickel because they wanted to process it themselves, so the government thought why stopping only for nickel when you could run the entire streamline industry... It's time for Tesla to enter the middle-class EV segment where Tesla's sales in China are surpassed by BYD. Another brand like Foxconn (Iphone makers ) still on progress to build their factories in Indonesia JV with Iocal company and many more new EV brand will be coming. The Japanese factory has also done the same, where Toyota started producing the Innova Zenix Hybrid at their factory in Indonesia for local and export market, and Mitsubishi Indonesia started selling the MiEV - EV minivan type. Daihatsu will also start the same thing in this year. Another thing that other countries don't have is nickel resources as a raw material for EV batteries where three giant battery factories ( IBC / Indonesia Battery Corporation, LG Energy Solution - S. Korea and CATL - China ) have produced batteries in Indonesia for all EV brands in the world and control more than 70% of the car battery supply in the world. This time what went on in Vegas will not stay in Vegas!! I met both Britney Spears and Elon Musk in 2000 at Bellagio. Britney just stared at me as she was singing on stage and I was standing in an archway above and nearby. I'm not sure if I was supposed to be standing up there by myself but I did have her undivided attention. A few days later Elon came up to me and started asking me questions about what I was doing there, in Las Vegas and Hawaii during that time. If I would I be fine answering a few questions. And if I was a gambling man? I stated, "I was on vacation and I only like to bet on things that are worth betting on!" I had earned these trips by qualifying reward points at my work. He asked, "What kind of work is it that you do?" I said, "Commercial energy saving promotions but I had been schooled in Automotive Marketing Business Administration and worked in that field for several years as well." He asked me, "If I had millions of dollars to spend what would be the most innovative businesses that could help humanity?" We talked about electric cars, we talked about solar energy and so many other subjects for over an hour. Even commercial space exploration for the consideration of colonization. That way all of humanity's eggs are not in one basket in case of another world war, asteroid strike, major climate change, etc. These we're very expensive and ambitious businesses to become successful at. Therefore we had to talk about ways of keeping a low overhead in advertising, distribution and the manufacturing. He said, "They were all very good ideas and that they should be done!" He said he had already made hundreds of millions off of a couple internet companies he started. "One of them was PayPal," he stated. Not that I had really done a lot of online banking or e-transfers at that time I didn't think much of it, until I noticed online about a year later that I could buy something off the computer with my PayPal card! Unfortunately I had just received a promotion as regional manager with the company I was working with. This made me let Elon know that I had to wait for a few years before I could assist further. I keep on sending out messages, hoping that he will get one and reply back. I will probably have to keep on trying, he gets more messages in a day then I would in five years! It is very inspiring to me to have a conversation with someone and they dedicate the next 20 years to making our conversation reality! We also talked about becoming your own best supplier and starting businesses that help your existing business. A type of slingshot effect that he has incorporated very well. It is so ambitious and amazing that he was willing to put pretty much all of his money where his mouth is and just make it happen with a consistent dedication. Congratulations Elon and I am looking forward to working with you again, one day in the near future! I still come up with innovative business ideas on a daily basis. Of course Britney I always wish her well and would enjoy meeting her again as well. Shoot for the Moon then Mars and then we will end up amongst the Stars! If you would like to learn more of these topics let me know. People with integrity expect to be believed otherwise they let time prove them right! propower101@hotmail.com

I seriously doubt they will build cars there. Batteries sure, but not cars. Tesla's strategy has always been to build car factories near where the huge car markets are. Tesla isn't producing cars cheap enough right now to significantly put a dent in the Indonesian market. This is the same issue they are having with India's market. They want to import their cars into that market until it lowers the cost of a Tesla enough to be competitive and allow them to take large market share. Justifying building a car factory there.

I agree, he just wants the ore and maybe a battery plant.
@NinetooNine2 жыл бұрын
@@hristoyordanov6756 I didn't say anything about the Asian market. I was talking specifically about the Indonesian market. Which does not justify a gigafactory there at this time until either the high-end vehicle market in Indonesia blows up or Tesla lowers their prices. Also, Tesla already has a international hub in China and they are expanding it. So I doubt they will be replacing that anytime soon.
@NinetooNine2 жыл бұрын
@@mhack9881 I think ideally he would just build a cathode facility there and ship those to his other gigafactories. However, the Indonesian government is playing hardball and he is being pushed to build a battery plant there.

The only real issues would be logistics as in the port system because if Tesla does build there then you know we're talking about a minimum of 1 million units per year. But as part of Tesla's strategy of massive scale an Austin style GigaFactory would mean we're talking about potentially 2.5-5 million units per year.
@russell24492 жыл бұрын
Are you saying that Indonesia has a lack of shipping facilities and can't handle exporting 2+ million vehicles annually? Idk if that's true, but since that would be a minimum of 4-5 years out, I don't see why the Indonesian government wouldn't be willing or capable of building out the infrastructure to support a Gigafactory's needs considering the jobs and money it would bring in.

They could possibly buy and retrofit some of the huge fleet of oil transport ships that those guys operate to move that old stuff. They'll need to sell them off as they run out of material to ship.

Here I think something is not going right. The Roadbridge nickel mine is on the island of New Caledonia, which belongs to France. The nickel producer Société le Nickel is selling 30% shares to Tesla. Indonesia is a thousand miles away from New Caledonia. So the integration theory is not correct. Extract nickel in New Caledonia (France), manufacture battery and car in Indonesia, 4,000 miles away. Where is what: is it in Central Java, as reported by Maria Merano, or in North Kalimantan, as Simon Alvarez says?

It works because Tesla is a new company that does not have the decades of business baggage that older companies have to deal with. I have watched business strategies bounce back and forth with these issues moving from supply management to JIT to do it all yourself and then to outsource everything. Soon it will all change to JIT industrial line manufacturing of one of a kind and we will all watch as 50% of all the resources available on the earth get wasted in trash dumps filled by amazon. What a wonder life you have all created, WOW.
