The Americans honored the agreement for a couple of years, and then under Bill Clinton’s presidency the US reneged on the agreement. But there were other events in 2008, 2014 and 2021 which eventually provoked Russia to invade Ukraine in 2022. From 2015, NATO started to arm and train Ukraine, and in 2022 prior to the conflict, Ukraine had the second largest army in NATO. The history of NATO expansion is quite involved, and I think could be described as “a real can of worms”. KZbin is a great source of information should you wish to do some research yourself. Prof. Jeffrey Sachs and Prof. John Mearsheimer have both produced some very informative YT videos. All the best.

Long range missiles will have no effect. First because Russia is now regularly shooting down Storm Shadow missilesor diverting them by electronic means, but also because they need NATO satellites for targeting and guidance and NATO technicians for inputting the data. This makes such attacks by NAO not Ukraine and Putin has threatened reprisals against those countries involved with his nuclear submarines now off the coast of the UK and last week the launch of a satellite killer system to take out the NATO satellites used for such strikes.

That's not what the PM of Denmark is pushing for. Ms Mette Fredriksen, an obvious war hawk said, “My suggestion is, let us end the discussion about red lines [of Russia]. … It has been a mistake during this war to have a public discussion about red lines,” which are “simply giving the Russians too good a card in their hands.” She added simply “I think that the restrictions on the use of weapons should be lifted.” In other words: ignore Russia’s national-security concerns altogether, even if it meant WWIII. Finally, she broadened her vision to the whole world, “What we see now is a Russia that is getting closer to North Korea and to Iran. And I don’t think that Russia would be able to have a full-scale war inside Europe without help from China, unfortunately. So this is not a European conflict, this is a global conflict.” Chiba, Iran, and the DPRK are within her cross hairs. It's all out war, or nothing. Next time you drink your Carlsberg, think about her words.
