Hi guys, russian UFC casual here, regarding Habib advise. The thing is, in russian word борьба (bor'ba) has two main meanings, one of them is fight, and the other is wrestle. In this case, Habib was talking about fighting, something like "you have to fight for every centimeter of the octagon". He didn't advise Umar to wrestle, it was more of a motivational speech Translators just fucked it, like the time they translated Pereira's message to Israel as if he is trash talking him

After Umar won a comfortable but pretty uneventful fight with Sandhagen, I was rooting for him but I wasn't sure how he could win against Merab's EPO gas tank. If Yan, who is infinitely more skilled than Merab, got outpaced and drowned for 5 rounds, if O'Malley won 2 rounds, sniped and hurt Merab but still got outpaced and thrown around in rounds 2+4, if Aldo could lose by being held against the cage and kneed on the thigh despite being 16/16 in defending takedowns and landing the significant strikes across all rounds, what could Umar do against that cardio that the rest couldn't?

what an interesting analysis ... not on Merab, but on Khabib early on. He really was shy and kind and full of smiles. He kept the kindness but the shyness went away, and the smiles always fade when you're in the spotlight too long. Umar strarted off the same, but it's true, he does now imitate a little more of the Khabib after. As for Merab, he's a good guy, loyal and giving like Khabib, but he doesn't have that innocence that Khabib had, as was evident in the promos leading up to his fight with Umar.

Khabib never showboated at the expense of his opponents ... Merab couldn't stop with the taunts and making fun of Umar. I'm not saying that's necessarily wrong, if that's the thing a fighter wants to go for ... but it's def. not reflective of an earlier or even a later Khabib. Apart from Connor, Khabib respected his opponents a great deal, especially in the ring.

I think Khabib has been exposed a little bit as not being the most adaptable coach here. He coaches Umar Belal and Islam like they’re the same, it often works but it leads to him not taking advantage of each persons unique skills like Umar’s kicks. Plus, this is probably the first fight in that teams history where they did not have a strength advantage and where wrestling was a bad idea. Makes me a little more curious about how Arman v Islam would’ve gone tbh.

I think Khabib was trying to focus on the mental sides of things more, because he saw Umar constantly getting backed up and he knew that this would only snowball over the later rounds, so he wanted to stop Merab's forward pressure by maybe taking him down or letting him know that he can't just rush in to the space like that, plus wrestling I would assume is easier than striking and constantly backing up when you have a broken hand.

IF Arman used his grappling to just wear out his opponent and throw strikes as they stand up, I think it could work. But that’s not how he uses it, he tries to establish ground control and TKO or submit them, even though those skills aren’t high level enough to use on Islam.
@IytrrvItruКүн бұрын
@@VitalFacetsarmans wrestling is definitely good enough to make Islam uncomfortable however he loses on the feet to Islam . Arman is just , a less powerful , less technical version of Islam . He would get submitted

It would work with Islam and Belal cause they can wrestle

Khabib telling Umar to wrestle is like us telling Che to put his teeth in... We all know it's a lost cause.. But we have a vision in our heads that doesn't match reality...

Merab physic and stamina is way waaay better + Merabs braveness! Merab is a fighter with champ mentality! And he don’t give a shiт if you are more skilled!

Umar proved he’s Merab’s toughest matchup to be fair, it was a razor close fight.

It wasnt razor close umnar won the first two and the rest was all merab

Razor close?

Did you think Umar had a shot after the 4th round outside of a freak knockout? He was broken after the 4th. If that fight went to 10 rounds Merab would've won 8-2.

When Joe Rogan said jiri thrives in the chaos moments… well that where hill thrives too.. and when there’s a guy who doesn’t get hurt and has drastic amounts of powers you can’t win there

I was thinking the same exact thing about your round 5 comments. Umar had the upperhand in damage the whole time until that big punch landed, then I felt that would win Merab the round.

Merab is like liverpool in football, he uses gegenpressing as his tactical approach in octagon🤣

Love your videos but another (and more important) reason not to give a f about his hand is that presumably he didnt break his hand in thr jakuzzi....Merab broke his hand during the fight..thats rhe damage done by merab...so how is that an excuse? Its like saying that merab had a cut and missed a punch
@Tech-Nick-QueКүн бұрын
Most people miss one important detail - Merab is one mountain away from russia and he understands russian enough to know what is coming 2-3 seconds in advance. khabib is micro managing his fighters and screaming what to do. It works vs people who has no clue of russian language. real reason people fail vs merab - they dont give him credit he deserves. not even half of what he deserves. I don't know what else he can do to prove himself. Also, that khabib advice - it not quite an accurate translation. more properly it would be like that - fight, don't give him an inch, fight in every area, dont give him anything.

I don't think so man the crowd was so loud during the later rounds. Just because a coach is barking commands doesn't mean the fighter will execute them like a robot.

Because of your breakdown I was spending the entire fight yelling at the TV at 6AM for Umar to throw body teeps and stop shooting takedowns 😭

Umar did what he was supposed to do that’s why he did well in the first 2 rounds, Merab is just too good 🤷♂️

I rewatched the fight like 10 times after. Jiri pull cross particularly from southpaw was the bread and butter for his W on Hill. Whether hill was southpaw or ortho he could not read that dip into cross. That small delay in the left hand from the dip I think throws off the rhythm and Hill ate nearly all of them lol
@marcopolo4319Күн бұрын
i mean breaking your hand is not an excuse it means you broke it yourself and your opponent was better than you

@ it is not a weakness ,Merab just didn’t know how to defend a teep back then ,do you think Merab just had a training camp for 6 weeks without knowing that he has to learn how to defend a teep , because maybe umar is gonna teep him
@DJ-dh3oeКүн бұрын
@@mohammeda3025 exactly, would be dumb if Merab hadn't prepared for a teep, after almost getting finished by it and now facing a guy with great kicks. I think Umar could have used it more than he did but it wasn't going to win the fight for him alone
