Actually Volk also does have insane bjj. He is very good at swiping people like he did against Brian Ortega when he was on bottom mount and he got into halfguard then single leg. He is most of the time in dominant positions(being in top closed guard is great position for him because he has amazing ground in pound) and his submission defence is absolutely ridiculous. His positioning is excellent but he doesn't have submissions so i would say he is very similar to Ortega whem it comes to bjj

There is only one reason why we watch fights. To find out who'd kill who in a real fight. BUT we use rules to limit severe life-changing injuries (no eye pokes) AND we use rules to keep things competitive (no nut shots). Khabib using grappling for ground and pound is pretty nutty. And is unmatched in the entire MMA world from what I've seen. BJJ means nothing if you have control but are doing no damage or not getting a submission. You have to be doing damage and/or getting a submission. That's the entire point of a fight. Islam hugging Volk the whole 4th round is not good BJJ.

Good observations on the Islam/Charles fight in that Charles was doing well or was on the offensive when not against the fence and people forget that Islam backed out when Charles came out the back door. Who else has put Islam on the defensive like that? But yes, Islam is the better overall MMA grappler although Charles did show improved wrestling vs Chandler but was controlled and GNPed by Arman (yes Charles nearly tapped Arman too). So top 3 being Islam, Charles and Khamzat is pretty accurate I think. Let’s not forget that Whittaker is one of the best anti-grapplers post Aldo so for Khamzat to do that is no joke. It also shows how poor Romero’s submission or MMA grappling is as he was never able to control Whittaker on the ground much less get off GNP or even think about a sub.
@andregardiner30714 сағат бұрын
Gilbert has amazing bjj defense but his offense is limited I would say him and Khamat are tied khamzat can take ppl down and get to submissions way faster than Gilbert but Gilbert defense can nullify just about everyone’s offense

Taira? Paddy? Those 2 are CLEARLY better at bjj than lopes and even burns
@alvariuztheplug57285 сағат бұрын
I'd rather say your definition it's more related to catch wrestling than to BJJ. Because in BJJ you still use a lot of guards and defend of off your back which being honest is not the best position to be in specially in MMA
@AlrikJohansson5 сағат бұрын
Oliveira is good offensively, however his defence isn’t on the others level, been shbmitted 4 times while the others haven’t been submitted once, for islam you can look at his fight vs davi ramos where he barely wanted to engage on the ground (just like chimaev vs burns), pure bjj i think Burns is the best, in mma either khamzat or islam
@AlrikJohansson5 сағат бұрын

And Taira and paddy are also clearly better at bjj than lopes and even burns. By his logic Arman = burns because he also survived against chimaev.

I would also consider Pantoja and Jailton Almeida as great candidates to the besta bjj discussion. I even got Pantoja ahead of khamzat,despite being less dominant, Pantoja hás achivements in a higher level of competition(also, flyweight is a harder division to be dominant as a grappler, due to the fighters be quite "scrambly") , and is a more well rounder in the positioning/submition criteria(khamzat being Far more submition heavy)

islam has better bjj than charles. not only did he submit charles, he has plenty of wins by submission, and he would submit any one that charles has submitted.

@@tawj1918 I think he does honestly. Only one hook, hand not hidden behind the head, even the lock on the face wasn't in super tightly like it e.g. was for Grasso vs Shevchenko. That was not a securely locked in submission at all. I'd even say this is something that shouldn't get finished like that on this level of MMA. I believe if it hadn't been for the teeth, Rob could have fought the hand and get the choke off, or worst case scenario spin out of it (to the right) and accept half guard.
