The REAL Reason Why Jewish People Reject Jesus As The Messiah

As a Messianic Jew myself (Jewish but believe Jesus is the Messiah). This is a great explanation and a question I have gotten before. One point I would add is simply jealousy & desire to remain in control/power. The Jewish leaders of that day were authority figures & a rogue teacher outside their order threatened their influence. Pilot recognized this as stated in Matthew 27:18 “For he knew that they had handed Him over because of envy.” *clarity after the confusion in the comments. I am 100% Ashkenazi Jewish by ethnicity. My DNA tests provide those exact results. My faith beliefs align with “christianity” as I believe both old and New Testament as authoritative scripture. Messianic Jew simply is the term that describes that belief while being ethnically Jewish. Almost all original New Testament writers share the same ethnicity and would still claim to be Jewish. As they saw the belief in Jesus as fulfillment of the Jewish scriptures. I am not claiming any privilege I simply have a culture and ethnicity that doesn’t go away by believing in Jesus who himself was Jewish.”

Believing that Jesus died on the cross for my sins & rose again is what saves me and makes me born again. However, being Jewish by background “not religion” is something that is important to many Jewish people who follow Christ “Christians”. There is a lot of historical & biblical context that makes a Jewish ancestry something important to recognize while being a follower of Jesus. To give a quick example it would be as if someone who is historically Irish says I am a Christian who is Irish. Yes we are one in Christ but his human background is from Ireland. Wow… that’s a brave and bold statement. If you believe Jesus criticisms of the Pharisees in as much you feel his condemnation of their behavior and attitudes were warranted and you still believe you would be just like a Jewish Pharisee that is pretty remarkable. According to Jesus’ words recorded in scripture Pharisees DID NOT stick to the law. That point is made all throughout the gospels. They adhere more to TRADITIONS and commandment of MEN not God. Jesus frequently called them HYPOCRITES indicating they expected others to follow the law while they would often flout or disregard it. Jesus never told anyone to DISOBEY the law. He fulfilled the Law perfectly so it would be hypocritical of him to command others to disobey it. Jesus even told the crowds and his disciples to listen and do everything the Pharisees tell them to do HOWEVER do NOT imitate the behavior of the Pharisees since they do not practice what they “preach.” *MATTHEW 23:1-7* So, you’re bold to say you would have behaved just as a first-century Pharisee. Unless you don’t believe Jesus’ criticisms of them.

I think the Jews rejected Jesus because they were "offended" and prideful. Jesus pointed out their sin and corrected them, they did not like that. I also think that deep inside they knew He was right and refused to admit they were sinful. It was easier to go against Him rather than change their ways, very much as it is today. I have a Jewish friend/co-worker who goes to his synagogue every Sunday but he recently revealed that he struggles in believing in God. He said he can't get a good answer because everyone he talks to is "too religious" (Exactly why Jesus came down). He knows that I'm a Christian as well, but believes that Jesus was just some crazy man. However, he never really got into it with me out of respect I believe. I think the last point Allen made about denying the truth hit it on the nail. Lee Strobel's book The Case for Christ was also made into a movie. Another movie to watch is Faith like Potatoes. Start reading the Bible by reading the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. There are very good KZbin videos to watch that help with Bible Study, Craig Brown and Living Christian - Living Christian on KZbin is the one with the picture of a cross with a blue background. Both these KZbin channels helped me at the beginning of my accepting Jesus as my Saviour. I am not Jewish but I was just a very lukewarm believer. God bless you and have faith. Jewish believer here, the only saved one in my whole family. Please never assume the majority of Jews in the US have any clue what's in their own Torah. Growing up, Sunday School taught us songs, dances, basic Hebrew, a few Old Testament stories taught as legend/myth, and modern Israel history. Most practice their religion only enough to get Bar Mitzvahed (if that), and celebrate the annual holiday of Passover and maybe Hanukkah. Growing up I knew more about Santa Claus than Jesus Christ (or the concept of Messiah), and Moses I only knew from the Ten Commandments movie same as most others. It's just not taught/discussed in most families, which are nominally religious (like many "Christian" families sadly). We are taught to be mistrustful of any other religious attempts at conversion, and are bred with a persecution complex (with some good historical reason). Bottom line: Preach the Gospel clearly and unashamedly (Rom 1:16). We need it like anyone else.

@@lewisthelibrarian The ones that I spoke to were very stubborn and hard hearted, and it was extremely difficult to even have the conversation once they realized that I was a Christian. Unfortunately I was not able to lead any of them to Christ that summer. Essentially, they reject that Jesus was the Messiah, because they believe that the Messiah hadn't come yet. They misunderstood who the Messiah would be (they believed he'd be a political king), and Jesus didn't fit their description of the Messiah. They were very steeped in tradition, and for them, accepting Jesus meant to turn your back on your family. They ultimately wanted to be left alone, and they were afraid of hearing about Jesus (many got offended when you said the name "Jesus"). They were a very difficult people to try to reach, but I'm glad that I had that experience.

The job of the messiah was to fight a holy war with Lucifer. That is the main job of the Jewish messiah. The other job was to restore the temple. Jews don't believe in an afterlife, or they certainly didn't believe in one 2000 years ago. The Jewish messiah was only to be resurrected to lead God's army against Lucifer's army in the final battle at Armageddon. After that, the messiah was to die again. What was believed prior and what Christians like me believe is that we are in the millennial kingdom right now. Jesus is right now on his throne ruling and reining. Jesus said three times in John 6 that He will raise them up on the last day. The resurrection of believers will happen on the LAST day. Nothing of our old world will be left. After the last day comes the new heavens and new earth. Look at 2 Peter 3. Does it look like anything of the old world will be left after this day?

Bless you Brother Allen. I have been saved almost all of my life and have never heard such clarity on the reasons why our Jewish brothers and sisters won't recognize Jesus as the Messiah. I believe your fourth reason (Hearts hardened toward the truth) is the main reason why the Jewish leaders of that day couldn't accept him. God in his infinite wisdom knew that Jesus had to die so that many can be saved, and that it had to be done by the Jewish people who were the only people allowed to bring sacrifices to God. They didn't know it at the time, and are still blind spiritually to the fact that their rejection of Christ opened the door for Gentiles all over the world to becomes sons and daughters of the Most High God! This was all in the plan of God.

(Isaiah 42:6-7; Luke 2:28-32; Acts 13:46-48) And like you said, the reason the Jews rejected Him in Jesus day, is the same reason as today, Romans 11:7-8 "What then? Great job. As followers of Christ I think we fall into the same trap as the Jews when interpreting scriptures. Many of the concepts that Jesus taught were spiritual in nature and we try to make them applicable to the physical world we experience. The Bible is written with imagery that is meant to describe the spiritual reality. The Jews were concerned with following the law to the point where they were unable to recognize spiritual truths.

The evidence is far from overwhelming. Starting with the trinity--it's is anathema to Judaism. God is one and indivisible, not split into three parts. The Messiah was never meant to be God, or a replacement for God, and nor will God take a human form. Then there are concrete prophesies that Jesus did not fulfill in his time on earth. For example, rebuilding the Temple in three days---the Temple was still standing in Jesus's time. Have all Jews been brought back to the promised land, or have we seen world peace? When you probe these questions, the Christian answer is always, he will do that in the second coming. When you tally it up, and there are several, it doesn't speak well for the first coming. The Messiah won't need two tries to get it right. The notion of a second coming was an innovation to excuse why Jesus didn't fulfill the specific Messianic mission in his time on earth.

@@junnereyguinid It's in the miracles he preformed, mostly. None of which were actally related to the Messianic prophesy. Now this is my own take, for what it's worth. Jusus was a very interesting rabbi of his time and an one who developed a following that annoyed the powers that be. In a nutshell, his message was we have all these funny little rituals and thees mitzvot we live by, but if we aren't being our brothers keeper, and we aren't caring for the least amongst us what's the point of any of them? Let's put real meaning back in these mitzvot we are supposed to live by. The temple of the day was corrupt, fat and in bed with the Roman Empire. So Jesus's message was a pretty dangerous one. The result was predictable--when someone annoys the powers that be and threatens to upset the good deal they have going on--they get rid of the irritant and make and example of him. This time, it fueled the rise of a religion.

I’m from a very Roman Catholic country. Yes, Catholics are praying to Mary asking her for her intercessions. They ask her for help in times of troubles and need. Pleading or asking Mary is an act of prayer. One example is when they say “Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners in the hour of our death, Amen! well, it is very clear just this statement and there are a lot more, that Catholics pray to Mary. We can't speak for all people that we don't know. I rejected Jesus and turned away from the faith long ago. I came back to him recently after studying Gnosticism. Jesus is awesome in that version of Christianity. That doesn't mean I have to worship him. I just follow in his footsteps as he said to do.
