It is amusing to hear the profound arrogance of someone knowing of God, as if He were known outside of fiction. The believer & the literate are separated by the vocabulary of fiction: Blasphemy, God, faith, prayer, prophet, etc. Matthew 17:20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” I like asking believers how they can possibly think their faith is respectable, given Jesus said faith is worthless, since you can't expect obedience when ordering mountains to move? Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy". Blasphemy is a fiction vocabulary word. Blasphemy is a victimless crime. Believers lack of quality-control, so we are to pretend their God made Mormons so Christians would know how Jews feel. Like playing book tag.

@@1Corinthians15.1-4 I like the Gospels, Christ's words of wisdom. However, I do not see how Revelations align with what Christ professed. Christ was all about love, kindness and forgiveness. And that spirit does not align with the content of Revelations.

@@Juki1976 You know how in every movie where the little guy triumphs at the end over the selfish bullies who were holding him down. That's an aspect of love that we all feel and long for very deeply, unconsciously. It's just awkward sometimes to speak about. For instance, if you stood up to the bully, and no one saw all the horrible things the bully had done or remembered them, and only saw your justice of striking them back, or having the authorities catch them, you might think that the bully was actually the victim. It's complex, but perhaps you can relate to the dichotomy of love as an olive branch that connects us all and a sword that separates the good from the evil. I was an atheist my whole life for context, but the most challenging aspects of the gospel have now become the most enlightening, instructive, and redeeming for me. Literally every emotion, every event, has a place in God's plan if you can take a google maps view of it and zoom out. Just look at how the suffering of the early church fathers was justified in the end, and the bullies were punished. Now, people who don't see the big picture see the Christians as the bullies. But for those who follow the word and understand the nuance, we are still shocked to find ourselves giving to the poor and celebrating the weak, when as non-believers we only feared for our own significance in this life. I pray you will continue your own search, only because I love you and I want you to know what it's like to have an awakening of the heart to things you only thought possible in stories. I gain nothing from writing this besides seeing a fellow seeker who might one day find that these mustard seeds have grown into something palpable, the only story I've ever encountered that changed me into something new for good. Something more loving, and less concerned with my own position above other people.

@@billscannell93 I”ve read three so far. Just recently discovered him. Even though I’m not a Christian, I was raised as one and still believe in God. I’ve been fascinated for a few years now about the history of Christianity and the Bible. The one I just finished is “Jesus Interrupted”. Covers some of the contradictions and discrepancies in the New Testament. This has been my favorite so far. The others I’ve read were also excellent reads, imho. “Heaven and Hell: A History of the Afterlife” was rather eye opening. It shows the connection of some beliefs in Judaism to other cultures in the Levant, especially the Persians, Greeks and Babylonians. Some of it I already knew but I learned quite a lot from that book. The other was “The Triumph of Christianity: How a Forbidden Religion Swept the World”. Some of what this video showed is covered. Some of the more fundamentalist types don’t like him because he’s an agnostic, but as he states, most of what he covers is already known and agreed on by most scholars. He does offer his own opinion on something’s, but nothing that’s not reasonable. He even knows other scholars, like himself, that still remain Christians, and states it wasn’t his knowledge of the history that led him to leave the church, but he couldn’t reconcile a loving God with all the human suffering in the world.

These people are ignorant because they don't have the Holy Spirit in them, that's why The Word is hidden from these types of people. You have to believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, walked as a man & Jesus as The Messiah that has already come, lived then died for our sins then Rose on the 3rd day (defeated death) then God's/Jesus' Spirit (The Holy Ghost) which dwells inside of Christian's (The Church) so we are God's Temple here on earth.. He will come back to get His church one day & every knee & head will bow to Him as God then he will judge all that never excepted God's only Son (Jesus), if you don't believe on Jesus & ask for his forgiveness, follow Him to be saved by His grace to wash away your sins (past & future) you can never enter heaven. This is the only way we are able to be with a Holy God. This is exactly why you have to know that Jesus is Word that was with God in the beginning and became flesh. The KJV is a perfect Bible that was written by The Holy Spirit. Understanding the trinity is important to understand all of this. I pray you find Jesus and accept Him as your Lord that died for your sins. Seek & you will find The Truth (Jesus)

Actually the Origin of Christmas came from pagan festival of Sun god worship Mithra. Nowhere in the bible said must practice christmas From Wikipedia: The origin of Christmas can be traced to pagan celebrations of the winter solstice. Before Christianity, pagans celebrated longer days and more sun at the end of December. Church officials later adopted Christmas as a celebration of the birth of Jesus. Which date that pagan celebrate God's Mithra birthday? It appears that the annual celebration held on December 25, the winter solstice, was the most important celebration of the cult; it was believed that Mithra was born on this day, hence “the birthday of the unconquered sun” (Latin: natalis solis invicti). The celebration of Christmas started in Rome about 336, but it did not become a major Christian festival until the 9th century.

I have my Bachelor’s and Master’s in History, but chose to devote my career after the military to teaching public school. I'm also a senior leader at my church. I have used Frontline in senior high classes, so it wouldn't have surprised me if this series was a little skewed against Christianity. Actually, what I found was a theme that tried to stay purely historical on a subject that has a foundation of the spiritual and miraculous; no small feat. Because of this, the narrative had to operate without the Holy Spirit, which gives them great license to speculate in many different ways. I think the narrative and the scholars did a pretty good job of staying historical. In fact, a couple of the scholars almost seemed apologetic as they presented their views, as if they had more to share, but had to stick with the narrative. Regardless of whether the scholars were believers or not, most of them kept pretty neutral as far as spiritual matters went. Overall, I found this very interesting, as well as informative. One way of presenting a man (and for some of us God) and movement that had an unsurpassed impact on the history of the world.

I see this movie as a collaboration between a faction of Christians and Jews trying to hide the true ethnic origins of the Biblical Hebrews. What I find amazing is how they went into such explicit detail without revealing that the Bible is a black history book. All of the biblical icons were Africans. The Biblical Hebrews were not called Jews and the Messiah's name wasn't Jesus. They and the people of that era referred to them as Hebrews or Hebrew Israelites. The iconic images in this video of the one they call Christ looks like an Irishman. The deception is intentional. The Old Testament established their was no physical differences between the Egyptians, Hebrews, and the Ethiopians. Physically you could only tell them apart by their clothing and their ornaments. The demographics in the Holy Land have changed quite significantly due to war and mass migration. How can you talk about the first Christians and Hebrews and not mention their establishment in Ethiopia. How can you talk about the Hebrews without talking about those that settled in Ethiopia and in West and South Africa after the destruction of Jerusalem. It really gets scary to the church and the synagogue. The first Africans to be deported in the transatlantic slave trade were biblical Hebrews. People in this country who try to dodge the responsibility for slavery by proclaiming other African tribes were selling other Africans into slavery. There's a part of that story that was intentionally left out. The biblical Hebrews tribe of Yudah living in West Africa were different from the other African tribes. They were singled out to be the first captured Africans sold into the transatlantic slave trade in the Western Hemisphere. This information must be terrifying to the church and present-day Jews. Present-day Jews converted to Judaism in 740 AD under King Bulan. The European Jew therefore has no archaeological, genetic, or historical connection to the original biblical hebrews. They are European gentiles who lived in the Kazarian Empire. They always lived between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea and as far north as the present day city of Keiv. The devil has deceived the whole world. This video is an intentional attempt to deceive and distract. It's an attempt to explain Christianity as a European religion when actually the Bible is a black history book. This video attempts to draw a connection between European Jews and the biblical Hebrews that did not exist. The biblical Hebrews were Africans. There was no physical difference between the Hebrew Israelites, Egyptians and the Ethiopians. They were all Africans.

John 14:26 says the Holy Spirit will teach you all things and bring to remembrance all that I have said to you. 2 Timothy 3:16 says all scripture is given by inspiration of God (HS) and 2 Peter 1:19-21 says, For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. Well, it's Jewish music. Literally. Cultural appropriation, including stealing ancient Jewish history as that of the "first Christians"... And stealing [and rewriting] Jewish scripture (5 Books of Moses - aka the Torah) ... And fetishizing persecution that was done to actual Jews, for being Jewish. Persecution for being revolutionary by daring to believe in only one God - a God that's _not_ a King or Ruler on Earth, as was common place in virtually every empire and kingdom at the time. The peasants worshipped their own oppressors as Gods, because they were indoctrinated to believe this for generations, and it was enforced by the Ruler's armies. Hence, why Jews were seen as a threat to these empires that'd go on to enslave, wage wars, invasions, coups, massacre, burn, and yes, crucify _all_ Jews (why put one life above hundreds of thousands killed exactly the same way? Why wear a symbol of these violent injustices around your neck?). Josephus, whose, of course, carefully quoted throughout this series, was a Jewish slave to the Romans, forced to "author" their propaganda. They used his literacy and knowledge of Hebrew & Aramaic to translate, and literally rewrite thousands of years of documented Jewish history the Roman Empire plundered and burned. It's truly sickening that every historian knows Josephus (a Romanized name, not his real name) was a *slave* , and yet they continue to utilize this work as the singular source for the "history of the Jews"... Well, besides the Christian Bible, which is equally unkind to Jews and their history. It's obvious to anyone who reads Josephus, that it contains a myriad of fundamental historical and timeline inaccuracies, and further, note from the very first sentence how tainted the content is with Antisemitism. It goes to great pains to paint the Roman Invaders and Spartans as "victims" of "savage" Maccabeean fighters, fighting in self defense against Roman invasions that sought to end the Jewish people, during the 3 Roman-Jewish Wars (Jews won the first 2 against all odds, but in defensive wars, it only takes one loss to lose everything). Josephus was one of the only Jews at the time "allowed" to live outside of Judea. Judea, a small walled province that housed the only Jews "allowed" to remain on their own land, was the very first Jewish ghetto created by the Greco-Romans in Byzantine-occupied Israel. It was the first time Jews were banned from intermarriage with non-Jews, banned from practicing their religion, deprived of the most basic human rights; living segregated from society in an open air prison the size of an entire province. Any sane person would take issue with the perpetrators of such inhumanity not only skipping over exactly _how_ Jews were persecuted throughout this period (likely because this is the part Christians don't want to "appropriate," given they've persecuted Jews in the exact same way many times over the last 2,000 yrs, and it never happened to a single Christian) - but then the gaslighting; pretending it happened to the "first Christians" instead, is just too much for anyone who knows this history to stay silent. The first Christians were never Jews at all - they were the Romans. Christianity was their "long game" to end Judaism. First by trying to trick Jews into believing in adopting their Messiah, then converting them to this centralized authorization doctrine (Judaism has no doctrine) that'd then exert incredible control over their free will. Jews have been persecuted in large part because they could not suspend disbelief and adopt new beliefs in superstition, or willingly adopt very dark & scary ideology (i.e. Satan, Hell, possession, demons, the afterlife, end of times prophecy, Revelations, tribulations, etc). The Bible is an incredibly violent book. All of it. The Old Testament, btw, at most, only contains up to 0.5% Jewish text taken from the Torah. Judaism is not a scriptural religion, so it should go without saying the OT is not Jewish at all. Those who follow the OT are called _Fundamentalist Christians_ . Anyways, didn't intend to go into all that... But the usage of straight-up Jewish prayer and worship songs, literally sung by a Cantor but edited so you can't hear the words being sung, in addition to using Jewish melodies as the music score for a documentary attempting to erase Jewish history as that of "early Christianity," really was a bridge too far. This was a privately funded "documentary" made by one of Frontline's sponsors, and distributed by Frontline in exchange for donations that help fund actual journalism. All of the so-called "scholars" are professors are private Christian universities (Duke, DePaul, etc), or Christian theologians, many teaching in Christian seminary schools (Harvard Divinity School, etc). Only 2 of them claim to be historians of any kind, but even they are just fringe authors whose work is only published by Christian and/or Church owned/affiliated publishing companies and universities.

Josephus was born circa A.D. 37, four years after the latest estimation of Christ's death. Josephus was a leader of the Jewish rebels during the A.D. 66 - 73 revolt, but he surrendered to the Romans in A.D. 67. Vespasian decided to keep Josephus as his slave. Vespasian granted Josephus his freedom after he became emperor of Rome in A.D. 69. Paul had already written his letters by the time Josephus was defecting to the Roman side. So, the question is, why should we believe Josephus over apostle Paul, as both writers were contemporaries?

Josephus is often the go-to historian in first century history, but you have to keep in mind that: 1.) He will always support the Jewish view against Greeks or Gentiles in a debate or confrontation, and 2.) He's often a secondary source, not disclosing his primary source, e.g. his genealogy of the Maccabeans, etc.
@alexgachanja77053 жыл бұрын
@@NorceCodine Apostle Paul was martyred in Rome sometime between A.D. 66 and 68. That means that he had already written his letters before Vespasian took office. Josephus predicted Vespasian's rule before he became emperor. Nero was the emperor before Vespasian came into office. Nero was famous for dipping Christians in oil and torching them during the night, thereby using them as the light for his evening feasts with guests. Nero later committed suicide in A.D. 68. The next year, Vespasian, a fierce military leader, took over the Roman empire and persecution worsened. Vespasian hated both Jews and Christians, so he sent his son, Titus to attack Judea and destroy Jerusalem. After a long siege, the Roman army entered Jerusalem, razed the city, and destroyed the temple. Virtually all the people in Jerusalem, including visitors who were there for the Passover, were slaughtered like cattle. Josephus had already defected to the Roman side by the time he was writing his literature. So, Josephus would not be the best source of Christian history since his view may be warped. The best source of Christian history would be the books of the Gospel, Acts, and the epistles found in the New Testament. Also, a good early historical source would be the early historian Tertullian (circa 155 AD - 240 AD ) who said, "the blood of the martyrs was the seed of the church."
@MSHOOD1233 жыл бұрын
@@alexgachanja7705 yet, Tertullian came waaaay after Josephus, so I don't think he's a better candidate than Paul and Josephus as to a reliable source. Paul for example, knew most of the Apostles, especially Peter.

Paul was already talking about his death and resurrection before Matthew wrote his gospel and the early Christian had a reach understanding of the Law and the Torah which they always used to prove their points of view. It is not as simplistic as some of these people seem to make it... they were quite sophisticated for their time.

The people on here commenting how this series has a neutral or even worse positive or uplifting take on Christianity shouldn't reproduce. Seriously. You people aren't listening.

Very little that is positive to humans or intellect is part of "Christianity". Nothing the Bible says was not said in other cultures. Christianity is a derivative of the good and bad of its predecessors. Accept this and you will see more clearly the entirety of the human experience.

To Believe means to be persuaded or convinced Jesus is the Christ Christ means Messiah/Savior Jesus Christ is the Son of God He Saves people from Everlasting Death He Died on the Cross, was buried, and Rose again on the third day. He Conquered Death for all Humans, no matter who they are or what they have done or will do. Salvation If you believe that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), the Son of God, and that He gives you eternal life simply for believing in Him, you have eternal life (John 20:31; 1 John 5:1, 10-11). New King James Version John 6:47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him Once Saved Always Saved John 6:37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
