You said this beautifully. I had changed to 90 FOV due to poor vision at first it seemed perfect and it helped a lot but I realized up close fights I kept over shooting thinking my sense was too fast for me. I finally switched back to 110 on apex and now I’m beaming up close and far. It’s hard to see far away but it’s worth the sacrifice for better feeling and control.

For reference, In human vision, the FOV is composed of two monocular FOVs, which the brain stitches together to form one binocular FOV. Each individual eye has a horizontal FOV of about 135 degrees and a vertical FOV of just over 180 degrees. So if you want realism we may want to adjust accordingly. However this is on the monitor so it is going to seem much wider.
@sergrojGrayFace8 ай бұрын
"vertical FOV of just over 180 degrees" - that's wildly wrong. You're misquoting something. [edit] No, it's the source that you've quoted that's provided wrong info.
@sergrojGrayFace8 ай бұрын
This one sounds reasonable: "The FOV of human eyes is approximately 135 vertically and 200 horizontally including the vision of two eyes with a horizontal binocular FOV of 120 • (where the FOVs of two eyes overlap)."

You always have such good tips on detailed things other people don't cover. Would love to see a video on advice about how much wrist/palm should touch the mousepad, in different ranges/scenarios. I developed a bad habit were my aim was really accurate in wrist range, but when I moved my whole arm, my palm dragged, making uneven arm aim. On the other hand, I tried my palm floating, but that made my aim so much less accurate, it was horrible.

I think a HFOV of about 120 is a good middle ground between fast turning speed and distortion. But this all depends on how far away the monitor is from your eyes. Placing it closer to you will reduce the distortion and placing it further from you will increase the distortion. Most people usually sit at like a 90 degree angle away from their monitor. l like to sit further back for the sake of my eye health.

I always see the tradeoff high fov -> more peripheral vision, game feels faster low fov -> bigger targets in the center, less stuff to render (higher fps) in the end the best result depends on the game and the player.
@potapotapotapotapotapota Жыл бұрын
Low fov doesn't actually increase FPS. What will impact FPS is a change in resolution, but you have the same amount of pixels being rendered no matter what FOV you use. Also, the tradeoff with having bigger targets with low FOV is that they will appear to move faster, making tracking harder due to the parallax motion effect.
@mikulik8170 Жыл бұрын
@@potapotapotapotapotapota Low FOV does increase FPS in most situations, because the game has less geometry/game world to render. A lot of computation in computer graphics (including games) is resolution independent, hence why 4K (UHD - 3840x2160) in tradionally rasterized games runs "only" about 2.5x slower then FHD (same settings despite the res) even though the res/pixel count is exactly 4X higher not all of the computation gets "scaled" by the factor of 4X because not all of the computation that the "engine" has to do is resolution dependent. If you have a lower FOV and the same settings/res the game engine has less of the gameworld to render -> less objects, less textures and so on -> that is why console games very often have locked and quite low FOVs -> to save performance!
@potapotapotapotapotapota Жыл бұрын
@@mikulik8170 Ok do you have any examples of this? Because when I tested this in a few games the FOV made absolutely no difference to FPS. Like I tested this in Call of Duty which has a locked low FOV on console but it made no difference.

in some games lower field of view seems better for me because of the zoomed in clarity, like in pubg or whatever, its already so hard to spot ennemies and i dont get in cqb much so i rather have 90 fov or 85

Does this rule apply to aspect ratio? I do lower my fov to 80 from time to time in kovaaks to work on my smoothness but in game I like high Fov and a stretched aspect ratio. 110 fov on 16:9 feels really slow and controlled. 16:10 feels a bit more fluid and 4:3 feels really fast but accurate longer ranges

This is already a problem in Apex. 1080p, high FOV and a pixel will headshot you with a shotgun. I'm not sure high FOV is good advice for low resolution or for people with poor eyesight.

Most QC pros use fov 110-113. Only a few use up to 120. I personally use 120 but I still think getting good at 113 would be the sweet spot. And I think theres a reason why the absolute best pros use lower then 120. The slightly bigger hitboxes makes up for the slightly harder mobility and the fact you have to lower your sens some. Many quake players use already higher sens than people do in other games so... But I'm too lazy to get used to something new. I seem to be stuck at around top 500 in duels. I don't know what I need to improve further. Probably a new brain. XD

A fellow Quake Champions player? Ah, I see you're a person of culture as well. ;-) I agree with your sentiment. It often depends on the style of gameplay (Quake vs Apex vs Counter-Strike, etc.), and each factor has its pros and cons. Each game would seem to have different optimal intersection between pros and cons for each person.

Bro, i have learned a lot with your videos and i wanna say thank you for all. I got a question and it would be good if you can read me. For me 103 degrees its a good FOV for shooter, but in valorant i think its so high, and i would like to use 90 degrees and use Focal Length Sensitivity Scaling. The point is, valorant does not have a fov slider, but i can use a stretched resolution; but using stretched resolution i only change my horizontal FOV but not my vertical FOV. There is a way to change only my horizontal sensitivity?? i mean using a program o something like that?

a lot of scenarios in kovaaks would undoubtedly be easier with a lower FOV, but now I'm realizing it's pointless to lower the fov just for the sake of being better at the aim trainer when I'm only using the aim trainer to get better at games. Thanks for the video, was really just curious about FOV in kovaaks but this helped me realize why high fov is actually good

yup, you want the same fov in your aim trainer that you have in game. And different games do different calculations from the value you type in to what you see.

It depends on the game. You should always put it as high as you are comfortable playing at. And no higher. But honestly. I feel like they should in every pvp game. Make it 1 fov for everyone. Whether it be, 80, 100, or 120. Idc. Because doing otherwise creates an uneven playing field. Which goes against the very nature of a competitive game. If someone can walk in with a 21:9 monitor and get the extra peripheral view. Then that is stupid, and anti competitive. There is only 1 shooter game doing it right in most things. Fov, audio, competitive integrity ect. Which one it is, you can figure out on your own.

How did you calculate the difference in sensitivity when lowering fov I was thinking of going from 1.2 @90 fov to 110 on apex
@TheMeta2 жыл бұрын
The best method is to use focal length scaling, to do that manually for games with the same FOV scale (or in your case converting to the same game), you can follow the instructions in this video here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oafLq5h6pLSKmqM If you do this for apex you will end up with 1.2 > 1.71, this is actually slightly wrong as Apex lists their FOV incorrectly so it should be 1.69. There is a good chance this sens will feel too high though, for the same reasons outlined in the video. If you do choose to play on 110 FOV, you will have a lot more freedom to lower your sens if you feel like it.

I play Apex Legends on a ps4 slim and I used to set my fov on 110, because that made me feel I was leading my shots better. Now I'm trying to lower it a bit on 104, because I read that on old consoles having high fov was actually damaging because of the lack of FPS you would get; but I honestly couldn't find a difference in my frames. Can someone help me to figure out whether it's best to keep my fov at max or not, in my case?

Bad reasoning. Even if you don't compensate mouse sensitivity, you can be just as accurate, you only see more of the jitter. Anyway, 90 degrees vertical fov rules.

I ended up with 100 in Apex, 105 in Destiny 2 and 85 in Planetside 2. All three games calculate differently. In Apex 100 in the settings gives 114.8 horizontally and 82.449 vertically In Destiny 105 gives 100.8 horizontally and 74.14 vertically In Planetside 85 gives 116.91 horizontally and 85 vertically.

Changing fov doesn't do anything for aim. Increasing fov without changing sens might provide the illusion of a having a slower sens due to less pixels changing on screen, but you still require exactly the same precision (mouse movements) when shooting targets and moving around.

high fov makes mouse lazy in middle where you aim but faster turning around 360
@Katze8222282 жыл бұрын
idk.. i think i find it easier to aim with lower FOV. Otherwise i wouldn't zoom in when using rail. And in games where you can get away with a lower FOV, pros tend to also use low FOV. In CS GO most pros play 3:4 which is lower horizontal FOV than 16:9 and in quake duel some pros also prefer lower FOV. In both games you know where your opponent is coming from most times. But even though i believe aiming is easier with lower FOV (as long as the target stays on screen) i usually go for 125 FOV if the game allows it. It just feels better and as you said, you can get away with higher sens because it feels like a lower sens which is great for moving around. If i need to be precise i can always zoom in to get low sens and FOV.

You are toraly right its just that in is video he forgot to adjust is sensitivity to get the same pixel / mouse centimeter simply of that he tought that he was harder to aim but its just that is sensitivity was for high fov and not good for low fov poeple dont really know but each time you change fov you need to change mouse sensitivity use.
