Always love to watch gunsmoke and I still watch it till this very day. Due to reruns on different channels. This is definitely a hard act to follow.

FESTUS WAS THE ONLY REAL COWBOY ACTOR WHO TOTALLY FIT THE PART OF DEPUTY, HE WAS PERFECT ACTOR

@@johnrencheck2283 He took over the show because the original characters grew old. I decided they MADE their money to retire. I don't blame them for retiring! That's what a smart, intelligent person does!!!

I liked the black & whites much better! It added extra authentication to an original Cowboy Western show!

Dennis Weaver left Gunsmoke to avoid being typecasted and wanted to pursue other roles . Glenn Strange died at Season 18. Milburn Stone passed away 5 years after the westerns final season. Milburn didn't live long enough to appear in the Gunsmoke movies. I always felt the western had a great supporting cast. It is too bad that Miss Kitty's Amanda Blake left after Season 19 only because she thought the show was going to keep going beyond Season 20.

Miss Kitty, Amanda Blake also, suffered from oral cancer due to heavy smoking. She was the one that inspired me to quit smoking when I was in my late twenties! I'm still alive at 73. That was the BEST but HARDEST thing to go through! Thank you Amanda!

@usertz8wg4yi6iThat is great. To stop a bad addiction to cigarettes at a young age is great. I'm 65 soon to be 66 I stopped a couple of months after turning 40 following a few attempts at stopping in my 30s. I have lost good friends too soon because they wouldn't stop smoking. It's hard but it really isn't impossible to stop. I found that in my first 6 months to a year I had to stay away from triggers that would bring on cravings. Chocolate, desserts with sugars and fried foods. After a healthy dinner taking brisk walks to ward off any cravings. When stopping it's always good to have a plan.

The way to get rid of the limp, well sometime during the show they could have had old doc, to do surgery and fix it

When it turned to color it wasn't very good. Matt was hardly in many episodes probably due to his pain in that right leg and him and Kitty looked so old and worn out.

You weren't a boomer from the late 40's & early - middle 50's were you? That was the cowboy show that the parents & children gathered to watch together as a family.
