Keeping your arms straight in the golf swing is a basic skill demonstrated by the vast majority of good players. Conversely, the poorest golfers will often demonstrate the most flexed arms through the swing, leading to inconsistent contact and loss of power.
Simply put, the arms and the club form the radius of the swing, and a swing with a more constant radius (arms straight) should repeat and perform more effectively and consistently than a radius that is constantly changing throughout the swing (arms bending).
To improve your arms structure in the golf swing - which means keeping the lead arm straight in the backswing, and the trail arm straight in the follow-through - you need to learn it is about more than JUST the arms themselves!!!
Poor arm motion is almost ALWAYS a result of poor body motion. Learn to move the body correctly, and the arms will often improve without any conscious thought at all.
This video will explain how to move in the backswing and follow-through to promote the STRAIGHT ARMS that everyone in searching for, but seems so elusive for some many golfers out there.

I have recently been practicing by doing exclusively the arms straight drills, combined with towel under armpits, structure ball etc. A step change in solid contact, it's just so important. Even helping my early extension. Thanks Rob.

Thanks for addressing this issue. Flying elbows has been the bane of my golfing. It affects every club from driver to putter. I compound the problem by leaning onto my back foot to be able to swing through.

Excellent explanation, demonstration, and recommended drill Rob on how to keep the arms straight in the golf swing! I have been working on this situation for a while now together with maintaining a proper body rotation. I definitely know when one or the other does not occur! Good Job Rob! Keep up the good work!

My knee bend was wrong!, now I know what I need to do, my down swings is much better, the bend in my arms came from not getting my weight forward and coming up through extension. Great tips!

Fantastic instructional video looking forward to giving this a try to cure my chicken wing post impact. Would you say a lack of hip rotation / clearing the hips adequately in the downswing could also be a contributing factor as I feel I sometimes get stuck at impact ? Keep up the great work Rob

Looks like Lynn Blake’s “drag the mop” drill. Started S&T this past 5 months, playing better than ever. Discovered the TGM 3 years ago and my striking and scores improved greatly but I think the S&T ties it together. For me it is the weight forward and the finish drill, extending up. My miss was fat or behind the ball Thanks I love the drills

Rob, after watching your youtube videos on stack and tilt technique, I practised couple of times at the driving range. My iron ball striking was phenomenal. Applied it on a round of 18 holes with every crispy shots followed by ‘clean professional’ divots. Currently, I am using Regular-flex 60gm graphite iron shaft. I am of the opinion that probably I might not have any issue if I were to use stiff steel shaft. What’s you view? I have, however, not been able to hit the driver successfully yet but will not give up until such time I can manage it.

Great video. I think that straight arm release + spine extension + forearms crossing is perhaps the most confusing aspect of the golf swing for most golfers. Which is so damaging because it's the "moment of truth".

fantastic lesson. im currently (im not an official teacher) teaching one of my friends during the cold offseason, using your videos. I have a uneekor qed system. one question i have for you is, do you have an online shop where you might sell your floor setup? meaning the lines/dots for ball/feet/swing position? i would love to use that . thank you for everything. you changed my game so much, my friends hate playing with me now. haha. again thank you

Hi Rob i played a social game on a Par 3 Mashie course today i mastered the extending through the ball i hit a few shots on perfect line on the bottom Grooves ball going really low perfectly straight is that caused by loosing my Tilt ?

Thanks Rob. This lesson is invaluable. Keeping my arms straight after contact in the follow through has improved my ball fight considerably. Problem is doing it every time. I'm working on it. You may get a new customer on Skillest. Putting and short game are OK. Long irons are inconsistent and Driver is a nightmare. I like your no nonesense approach and your style of delivering the message. Clear, concise and to the point. I watched your 'how to submit a video' on Skillest. May see you soon.

Bending the arms isn’t just about extension and flexion, many people bend the arms through and post impact to open the face and try and correct face to path.
