Your channel is so underrated. You give such valuable advice. For me, it was also very important to declutter ruthlessly and actually wear my favourite clothes. Now I often feel I have enough and don't want to buy something. My standards are very high now.

Agree with you on the selling items aspect. I realized when selling , no matter what, used clothes are almost worthless, even the expensive stuff.

For me a GIANT wakeup call was tracking my money. I have my own business and like a classic creative person, I wasn't really keeping track of how much I earned. Then one day I sat down and really looked at my figures over the last year and I hadn't realised just how much I earn; and I barely have anything to show for it. I felt sick to my stomach as I couldn't account for thousands and thousands that went on clothing. Plus I work at home and really don't have the need for that much clothing at all. I was buying for my fantasy self. I also put a lot of it on Ebay and felt the pain of earning back about a third of what I spent - many items still had the tags on them. Yes that pain was necessary and after MANY attempts of stopping impulsive shopping, that was what turned it around for me. I also started focussing a lot on more creative hobbies so that I wasn't watching influencers on KZbin who would be tempting me. Now that I have decluttered I look at what's left with such a sense of satisfaction; as I kept the very best and absolutely love everything that I have - and I'm WEARING it rather than chasing after some new thing.

Kim, this is a really great video and I think you are spot on when you say that feeling a little bit of pain and shame for money wasted is healthy. I have experienced this myself. When I started seeing that it can be really challenging (AND time consuming ) to resell the items I brought into my closet without consideration, it really made me evaluate the item more carefully BEFORE I brought it home. Now it has to be a 10 😊🤩 your content is awesome, keep up the good work 💪🏻

Yesss, it's surprisingly hard to sell things sometimes, hehe, but at least we can learn from it (only 10s!) 😉 And it makes me supper happy you're enjoying the content, thanks for sharing your experience 🥰❤️

❤love this video! Spot on and so helpful. I am an impulse shopper and real key for me is not to go shopping at all because if I go shopping, I buy! Shopping became a part of my entertainment! I started following decluttering and minimalist videos and that has helped me lose the desire to shop. Your videos have helped me immensely. I am gonna put this one on repeat because some lessons need to be reinforced many times before the habit can be changed.

I already do this with makeup. It helped me to realise that buying things on offer isn’t always the bargain you think it is. Some items deteriorate after a time, even if unopened. Deodorant or lipstick can lose its pleasant scent and smell of a chemical even if the consistency is still usable. Hand cream can become more watery (ok, I forgot I had it - another reason to not have more than one spare). I realised how many spares I was stashing. Now I’m using it up.

Your videos are the most helpful decluttering and organizing videos that I have seen, by far. Your focus on trying to get to the underlying issues as to WHY we accumulate and keep buying is spot on and so helpful…I really love your mind-set strategies! Our clothing styles couldn’t be more different, but that does not matter, I really appreciate your content, thank you 💕

I smiled through your video, I have kids, so I don’t have that much time on my hand to be thinking of my clothes, just every season I think about getting rid of old stuff and I do t shop much anymore or at all. I used to impulse shop a lot but now working from home changed everything. Good job putting all those points together specially for shopping addicts people 😊❤

I love your videos. I have a shopping addiction. I think it’s getting better but sometimes I don’t think it’s getting better. I shop and then I feel guilty and return most of it. Not sure if it’s buying things or just shopping is something I really enjoy. ☹️

I know it can be difficult, but just keep going and you'll get there sooner or later 😊 Whenever I can't seem to change something in my life, I keep experimenting and searching for new perspectives until I have that mental shift, and then I know I am forever changed. For my shopping habits, it wasn't just one thing, I needed to do all five that I mentioned in this video before I had the shift, so hopefully it helps you too ❤️

I’m sure you can get past your addiction as you become more self aware. It’s difficult, but you can get there! In addition to what Kim suggested, it could also be helpful to consider your triggers. Just start writing down what emotions you are feeling before you want to shop. What is happening? What are you feeling? Spend 3 minutes and write it down. You might start to see a pattern. For me, when I feel overwhelmed, I want to escape and then I tend to do any number of my “zone out” activities - shopping, procrastinating, scrolling online, smoking 🌿, eating sweets, etc. If you see a pattern in your emotional triggers you can start to replace healthy coping mechanisms- going for a walk, calling a friend, turning the phone off, dancing, etc. - whatever works for you. This is a very powerful cognitive behaviour approach that can work wonders. I hope you find positive ways forward in your attempt to limit unhealthy habits. 🙏

Thank you Kim. You’re so young to have acquired so much wisdom and be able to put it in a neat info package that really makes sense. Even something beautiful and quality can become useless to you if you have five of them and use two on a regular basis. I love your idea of only spending mindfully on things you know you need and ensuring they are a 10, that you will want to pull out and use.

Thanks for another great video full of helpful advice, Kim! I’m not a big shopper, and do the targeted strike shopping you suggest, but my source of frustration atm is not being able to find the things I want (in my size/budget/sustainability preference). Trends seem to dictate soooo much of what’s available these days. Please can you share what you do in this situation?
@KimBedene
@KimBedene 11 ай бұрын
Thank you! 🥰 I can soooo relate to this, I have the same problem, and to be honest, when we're really picky that's what happens unfortunately 🙈 But how I approach this is like this: 1.) If the item is not creating a gap in my closet, then I keep looking for the perfect 10, as long as it takes me and as frustrating as it is. 2.) If the item on my wishlist is really important and is creating a huge gap in my wardrobe, I am willing to make a slight compromise and I buy something that I would still like to wear, but maybe the quality or every details is not 100%, and that buys me time so I can search in peace. Usually for me that means buying something a little bit cheaper and lower quality, so I don't spend too much money on it. Also, what I just recently did is I went through my wardrobe and did some alterations, so maybe option 3.) can be to alter your own clothes, or buy something second hand and then alter it to fill the gap in your closet, so you can search in peace. I know it's not ideal, but I hope it still helps 😉❤️

I noticed that I was buying duplicates, or too many things in the same categories, because: #1. I had compromised and didn't feel satisfied with what I had. 👖 #2. I wasn't organized at home, and didn't remember what I had. #3. Didn't know what I really needed. For example, I finally found jeans I love, so I "don't want" any more right now. 💖👖 I'm in the process of defining realistic lifestyle needs, figuring out how many I need in each category, and filling gaps as needed.
