Fun fact regarding mundus magnus map. The river in modern day Ukraine (Dnipro) should not be navigable on many sections because the dams all across the river, which make it way wider and deeper than its natural appearance were not built yet. If Med II gets a remaster, it will revive Med II modding to such an extent, that we're in for a very BIG era of new total war mods to be coming back. The first thing the remaster needs to do - Update TW Med II to modern engines so that it doesn't fricking crash every single time - Unlock the modding restrictions of the past - Allow a battle map editor to remake new maps etc - Do changing of the units/pathfinding - MAKE IT EASY FOR EXISTING MED II TEAMS TO PORT THEIR MODS OVER TO THE NEW VERSION OF MED II REMASTERED!!

Cool mod. I cannot help but think med2 has more to offer with this mod that could be added: - The medieval-themed traits are jarring in the context of ancient rome and could be changed for greater immersion. The chivalry trait could be replaced by any number of loosely-similar roman-themed traits such as Dignitas, Virtue, Honour, etc. Piety can be Pietas. - The Pope faction mechanics could be repurposed as the Senate, with the Pope being the Consul (whilst yes there were two consuls with only a year term, for gameplay reasons it can be simplified to one consul, with a term for say 10-15 turns). This gives you the incentive to try and get one of your family members voted as Consul with the associated benefits. Instead of a crusade, the elected Consul declares the senate approved wars (crusade mechanics could be loosely added in the sense that senate-sanctioned wars give you added Imperium to recruit more troops, outside of your city's recruitment limits). When playing as a roman faction you can operate outside of the senate's sanction but risk incurring its wrath (like an overly-ambitious Caesar taking on all of gaul), and if your relation gets too low with the senate you risk getting the "Senatus Consultum Ultimum" the final decree of the senate (replacing excommunication). This makes all roman factions declare war on you, and so again, more reason to build your relation with the senate + try to get your guy in as consul. There's so many parrallels between the papacy and the senate it would be a fantastic addition to the mod. - This is more of an optional thing but if the mod involves new factions then surely existing factions can be changed slightly: in particular, as a personal preference, I would see the gauls and britons have fewer starting territories. Instead of adding 'Persia' I would add at least one more western barbarian faction (and if the faction limit allows, more). I would also see the carthage faction have a stronger starting position so that it is not as easy to steam roll with scipii. Especially in a united rome playthrough, to have any chance of giving a good punic conflict, we need a strong carthage. Also, instead of Illyria I would have preferred Epirus, with a buffed starting location to give Brutii something to actually grapple with instead of a turn2 easy land grab. - I am not sure if I missed this in the video but it seems like merchants aren't available which seems like a very easy fix; they could be more powerful than the ones in remastered since they seem relatively useless in the short time I spent playing it. Economics played a big part in the expansion of Rome, both as a driving factor and as a source of romanisation so it could even conceivably offer a cultural conversion bonus to provinces that have merchants active in (consider a pre-conquest britain that is swarmed by roman merchants peddling their wares to the savage populace, slowly increasing the local roman culture value pending your eventual military conquest).
@theodoreturner8493Ай бұрын
I always felt that the Rome 1 engine had better battles. IMO, there's a reason why the Rome 1 multiplayer scene was much more vibrant than the Medieval 2 multiplayer scene. So like yeah, aesthetically it looks amazing, particularly the campaign map, but you're still dealing with Medieval 2 battles (which are good, but I always preferred how Rome 1 battles handled). Also, having Medieval 2 pikes in Rome 1 makes Greek Cities basically un-playable.

I wasn't sure if BI mechanics could be done because MTW2 hate having multiple hoards at the same time. I figured this out when 1648 mod allows one of the factions to become a horde and it "softlocks" the game. I think Medieval battle physics defeats the purpose of Rome Remaster. One of the biggest differences in the combat between the two titles besides the phalanxes was the cavalry in Rome 1 had a bigger punch but much less staying power, where as in Medieval they had a good charge bonus but also had good armor to stay in the fight and even pull out a mace and stick in the fight.
@micahbonewell5994Ай бұрын
Cataphracts don't have staying power?
@TheAdmirableAdmiralАй бұрын
@@micahbonewell5994 They do, but they are one of the few exceptions. Where as in Medieval II everything from mailed knights and higher had that high staying power.
@KasumiRINAАй бұрын
@@TheAdmirableAdmiral staying power can be easily adjusted in unit settings, even just making heavy cav 2HP units fixes most of problems. I played a lot of Medieval 2 and Rome just plays smoother, even if it has less features. Short phalanx is also impossible in Medieval 2 engine, it only has long pike formations. It does have schiltrons, and archers with deployable spikes tho, so if someone wants they can compensate by giving new features from M2TW to other units.
@Arbiter1414Ай бұрын
I think I prefer the remaster we got, as it has lots of great qol features like easier installing mods and optional balance tweaks, and the only thing to me it does horrifically is the ui, other than that its still the same game I love I feel like seeing Rome 1 through medieval 2 robs it of its charm a little, the colour pallet is more washed out and to me robs Rome of its vibrancy that made its art style work. My ideal remaster would be one where we can freely change the graphics though, similar to the halo remasters

One thing I do like about the original Rome/Med 2 is the two-colour factions making things much easier to read on the mini-map. It's a shame they're single colour in the Remaster. Yeah pikes are too op in Rome, but they are far too weak in Med 2, it's one of the reasons I don't think pike and shot mods really work for Med 2. And it's not even a stats issue, it's something about how the Pikes work mechanically and how the units behave, so it's not really fixable by a mod.
