I’m proud to be working with dollar shave club! www.dollarshav...
10 years ago, the greatest freakout ever was uploaded to KZbin. The video featured at the time 15 year old Stephen Quire aka Wafflepwn aka the WoW freakout kid, screeching and flailing around in his room because his mom cancelled his World of Warcraft subscription. Stephen’s younger brother brother, Jack, uploaded this freakout to KZbin and the video would go viral. It was a completely organic reaction caught on camera...or was it? Today I take a look back at the greatest freakout ever video and will determine if these videos are staged once and for all.

I’ve noticed a lot of people in the comments claiming that when Stephen Quire was on Tosh.0, Stephen himself admitted that the freakout video was fake. If you actually go back and watch the Tosh episode, you will find that Stephen never admits that the videos were fake

I remember watching this when it aired. His last words in this video were "it's fake" but kind of as if it were a part of the Tosh.0 gag and he were giving into the interrogation pressure. At the time, I still took it as him admitting it was fake. I imagine others are just remembering it the same way.

While the whole bit on _Tosh.0_ came off as a bit, I believe it was just comedic frame for it. The smoking gun that it was genuine confession is when Tosh made a joke about him coming out of the closet. In the freakout videos, there's a running theme of his homophobia triggering him into fits whenever he even thinks someone might suggest he's gay. So that Tosh made the joke and nothing was made of it was enough to convince me that what we see in the videos are him playing a character.

Exactly. My thoughts too. And the mother just saying that even the first one was fake because she’s either too afraid to admit it to herself, that her kid is like that, or wants the world know that his son is not a maniac. But if you really watch the first one (just the first, the rest might be staged or half staged), it’s almost impossible to fake all that.

I'm glad it was fake. There was a lot of concern back in the day of the family egging on and causing the freak outs and Stephen being probably on the severe side of the autism spectrum. That's also not accounting for the damage the brother could be going through with Stephen being like this all the time and causing some physical damage in later videos. I'm glad it was just for entertainment and both the kids are totally fine.

Stephen (the one who freaks out) was a laborer on one of my Jobsites. I found out it was him and had to go meet him. We talked about the first few videos. I fully intended on asking him more about them but honestly he seemed ashamed of it, so I didn’t really pry. In my personal opinion the first one or two are most likely real. After that, I think he started staging them to make people think they all were staged because he was embarrassed of the real ones.
@VinzRex
@VinzRex 4 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting thought. I also thought that the fact that the later videos were definitely staged doesn't have to necessarily imply that the first one was. It would maybe have been helpful to take the first video itself apart to know if that was real or not. One thing I did notice about the first video though is that the older brother seems pretty much always very well turned to the camera, in a convenient profile view, at an angle where you can see him the best, almost as if he's aware of it. And his brother manages to place the camera and take it away with a timing that is always just perfect enough to make you suspicious. But I am not fully sure, the first one might just as well be real...

The remarkable thing about these kids is that they managed to master the art of the viral video long before people even really knew what it meant to "go viral" online. Nowadays, things go viral on the internet all the time, and everyone and their grandmother's dog wants to be the next person to have a big viral hit, often going to extreme lengths to try and accomplish that. Meanwhile, Jack and Stephen managed to make it seem effortless. They knew exactly what they needed to do, and it worked. If that doesn't make wafflepwn one of the most legendary KZbin channels of all time, then I don't know what does.

@OpGamers Nah encycl07pedia is right, it was a term initially used by hackers when they took control of a target machine. They would type "owned" occasionally due to how close 'p' and 'o' are people would type "pwned" and it stuck.

Nope. Either they're all real or they're all staged. I know people like Stephen and if the first one was real and he found out about it, there's no way he would ever consent to making more videos. Freak out, kick his brother's ass and break his camera would be the more likely reaction.
