The UFC would want to legitimize a new division as quickly as possible so that they can once again claim to have the best fighters in the world. Handing a belt to either man doesn’t do that. I’m sure they want to keep Mac happy, but I just don’t see them offering him a title fight without at least one win.

Dana white already said it was going to be at 170. I don't think it needs 165 or whatever belt. It dilutes 155 and 170 of talent. Alex is already close to cleaning out light heavyweight with just 4 fights. It's going to look like 115 were we get no name midcard fighters who can't draw flies, paraded around as world champions. Why the eff does the UFC not want a 165 division? They are unable to sell fights that aren't title fights, so why are they resistant to making a new division? Just pop Welter up to 175 and it all makes sense. It would add excitement as fighters line up for title shots, and to earn title shots.

I think shooting any fighters into a championship is crazy. You have to have some sort of tournament at the very least so you can see fighters make that weight. But it's hard to rank a tournament with no fights at that weight class. You can't say well these two guys are the best, let them fight for the 165 belt, when we're basing that off of a heavier or lighter weight class.
