You know your company is a scam when you use "average income" instead of "median income" in every single of your MLM's income disclosure statement as it can hide inconvenient data such as if *majority* of agents earn the lower end of every income bracket. That's like using nine broke men with $0 net worth and Jeff Bezos with $200 Billion net worth then "conclude" that the average net worth among these ten people is $20 Billion. It's mathematically correct, but statistically deceptive.

MLM is actually much _worse_ than pure pyramid scheme because MLM victims can never get their money back as their financial loss is usually tied to legal part of the business model, which is the product purchase. It still is a pyramid scheme no matter what fancy names Patrick calls it with, and just because it's *technically* legal, doesn't mean it's ethical.

The truth is 99.6% of people in MLM companies lose money and they re made to believe it's their fault they're not succeding, while in fact that's not true. The whole goal with mlm's is to recruit and get the recruits to buy the products, not to sell the products. That's why comissions are much higher in recruitment in comparison to straight up direct selling. Also, Patrick runs PHP agency, which operates as a MLM. If you read reviews of people who worked in PHP, you ll realize their main focus is also recruiting. That's why one of the first things they ask of new employees is to make a list of people you know who might be interested in working in the company. So take this video with a grain of salt. Pat is biased in his analysis given he runs an MLM company. Also recommend checking out James Jani's video on MLMs.

i don't remember where i read these statistics, but when an MLM keeps track of how much product is consumed by members of the org instead of retailed out of the org to the customer, the average MLM has over a 99% in-org consumption rate. and i've seen firsthand my brother and his upline buy themselves inventory and never end up retailing it out. if a company can't show you the in-consumption or retail-out percentages, odds are it's a pyramid scheme with a product attached. and the product failed to pass a market beta test so the company forms a cult around the product(s) so that people will still buy them.
@maambomumba61234 жыл бұрын
not necessarily. Many people join an MLM to do exactly that: buy product or services at insider/member prices. That's why the industry distinguishes between a customer and a representative/affiliate. A mentor once told me, "Always ask ... 'Who is this person, and why should I listen to them?" So the first question I ask who portrays themselves as an "authority" in network marketing is, "Have you built a successful network marketing business, AND ... How many successful leaders have you helped develop who have created a successful network marketing business, AND how many have those developed leaders did the same?" IF they have done this, then you know they are an expert. IF they have NOT, then you really can't take them seriously for your mentorship. I LOVE everything said about Entrepreneurship taught on the channel. And I appreciate the attempt to try to teach a bit about the network marketing MODEL. Patrick is right. Network marketing is NOT really an "industry." It's a profession and a unique MODEL, which is a self development program with an opportunity attached. Our business is a LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT BUSINESS, first and foremost. Sadly, this fact and these roots has been nearly forgotten, and has sent the network marketing business in a tail-spin decline over the last 20 years. However, this is being changed. The 1 out of 100 succeeding in network marketing can be questioned. It depends on the criteria used. 3% will succeed at nearly anything they intend to succeed at. They already have the personality (the right Wisdom of the Ages mindsets). Sadly, 70% (by insurance stats) will die broke ... no matter what. However, there are 27% who sincerely want to succeed, but they don't know exactly what to do. These 27% percenters CAN succeed if they're given directional leadership, and given SPECIFIC and EXACT duplicable systems to succeed. The "70%er" has a lotto mentality that is easily drawn to network marketing, because it's cheap to get started (barrier to entry is low), and unethical network marketers make claims on how fast and easy it is. These unethical types (many are 3%er alleged "leaders") AND the 70%ers are the source of giving network marketing a bad name. Yet, ironically, the network marketing model is one of the best chances for somebody with average means, average intelligence, but with above average ambition ... to succeed beyond their wildest imagination. Robert Kiyosaki says it's one of the best ways for an average worker to learn entrepreneurship. However, nobody will succeed in network marketing long-term unless the leadership has personal self development programs and franchise-like duplicable SYSTEMS in place. Without it, leadership will always have too many monkeys on their backs and eventually burn out, and quit, or move to a different company. That's why there is a huge void of people in this business with the same company in the 3-9 year range. We call this the 2-10 gap. Until network marketers fix this problem with duplicable systems NOT based on personality, the network marketing business will continue on in it's sad dissipation stage (it's been in for 20 years). Thankfully, this is changing on the grass roots level. I recommend to folks who want the No B.S. No "Fluff" truth by a mentor, who has developed more 6-figure earners in network marketing than anybody else in network marketing history, to watch this webinar ... There's something strange about the stigma on network marketing. They said, "the only way to make money is to recruit." Then WHY THE FUCK CAN'T YOU DO THAT?" 98% either lose money or break even. That's because people don't know how to recruit ethically and can't sell. So let me get this straight, you join in network marketing without the ability to sell and recruit all the while are not willing to self-educate yourself with those skills? OF COURSE, YOU WOULD FAIL, YOU SET YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE. Of course, I can see the excuse "Well my leaders told me this and that." Guys! You're all independent contractors, the concept of getting FIRED doesn't apply here nor do you have to listen to your "higher-ups." I have never lost money joining any kind of network marketing opportunity, I either make money or break even. Admittedly, there are scams but I know what to look for. Network marketing and MLM existed WAY before pyramid schemes.

Network Marketing truly isn't for everybody. It requires individuals to get out of their comfort zone and face the 95% of the individuals who are uneducated on what MLM is. So many people get in MLM for the wrong reasons and they ruin the image of MLM. They try to force people to get in or force their product which shouldn't be the case when recruiting or getting clients or think it's a fast money scheme. They give up so easily and are labeled as quitters in my opinion. Some of the most people successful people in history like Jim Rohn, Anthony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, Warren Buffet, Zig Ziglar, George Zalucki etc all endorse MLM. MLM is known as the business for people who like helping others. Those who call it a Pyramid Scheme don't know what they are talking either. The successful people in MLM are one of the most humble people I have ever met. One of the only skillset you truly need to succeed in MLM is personal self development, that's all. You are *DEAD ON* on a lot of the people in network marketing ... misrepresentation; over-hyping the"get rich quick" scheme; not being honest about the hard, HARD, *HARD* -working part; not being honest about the *LOOOOOONG* time it would take to even start getting the first comp check; the push-push-push people to buy and join; the over-the-top mark-up of the product price. You are also right about network marketing can provide a tremendous learning and self-development opportunity for individuals lacking in certain areas to succeed on their own.

I was (baited and hooked) in one (Market America) after having escaped the baiting of many different types of network marketing "opportunities" since the college days (vitamins, financial - World Financial Group, etc.) Was in Market America for 2 years, learning all that time, hence, I speak from *REAL* experience. BTW, this is a very balanced talk on this topic. :)
@ExtraordinaryLiving7 жыл бұрын
World Financial Group couldn't bait me though because they showed their hook too early ... I was invited to one of their local meetings; there their recruited agents and enrollees were coached on how to do their own recruiting. At one point, they were told to get the people they've enrolled to take the licensing exams (for which the recruits have to pay hundreds of dollars, and they would have to complete a series of these licensing exams) as soon as possible. The up-liners said that, after a while, the new recruits would have invested such a substantial amount of time and money in obtaining their licenses that they would be inclined to stay in (the business network) and grind it out (meaning getting them stuck so that they would have to stay and work to sell policies and recruit down-lines even if they have to work hard and long.) These people are this scheme-y!!!

Recent court rulings now force MLM companies to make sure their distributors sell products to retail customers as opposed to strictly recruitment of others to sell products. The problem most mlm'ers face is the ability for people to search for similar products at a lower price elsewhere. That's when autoships drop, sales slow down, and people drop out. It's a constant grind to maintain a team.

What I got from this was that my company embodies all the positive points that you made; product, necessity, ownership, hard work, linear pay structure, etc.. All of the negatives were company/individual traits of how you want to market your business. Do you want to lie to get people to recruit, or become a recruit, make it seem easier than it is, don't care about your customers, etc. Good business practices are absolutely necessary to succeed in businesses of any marketing philosophy.

You can make a lot of money in those, but only if you get in early or have a big following of people to recruit.

When you recruit you are giving them the opportunity to write business as an agent by themselves and become coded. David, Thank you for that video! I am proud to be a part of network marketing company. You were spot on your observations. I thought it was very thoughtful and well research from your own personal experience and that of others. I am proud of my company because we don't paid to recruit but move product through a pipeline to consumers. When I talk to people about our opportunity I talk about the person that might just need a couple hundred buck to improve his family's life. Maybe they just want to get out of debt. But I also tell them that they are going to work hard that they ever have before. I stress that there is no such thing as "Something for nothing.' I also stress the importance of personal development. I tell them that 'Readers are Leaders and Learners are Earners." So as I watched the video, I saw something that I can improve and learn from. So again thank and keep up the great work in cheering us entrepreneurs on!

Bob Daves it's always best to be honest and have integrity. People are attracted to authenticity. Glad you enjoy what you do. I tried many mlm/network marketing companies and could never find the one that was completely honest. This is spot on!! I plan to use this video as a great 3rd party endorsement, so thanks! I 100% agree, and am currently trying to turn around the negative stigma that's associated with network marketers by teaching people how to do it the right way.. In my organization we aren't in the business of recruiting, instead we thoroughly vet and select our candidates. We believe in preparing them for business ownership and giving them a full expectation of what it takes to become successful before we agree to bring them on board. As a team we understand the value that we bring and the great opportunity that we have so we do not prostitute ourselves or our opportunity. My business is powered by Amway, the greatest company in the game.. (literally #1 on the DSA list) Just wanted to give you a little backstory that you might not know, that sets Amway apart from every other NWM company there is. When Amway was founded It first started with 5 couples that came from another business (that Amway later acquired) (the DeVos', VanAndels, Victors, Hansons and Dutts) they first formed the IBOAI (the business owner association that makes all the decisions).. Only then they went out and found products and formed the company. It is truly we the people, we created the values the company was built on. Every other MLM is company first, then distributors. Our IBOAI board is made up of a majority of IBO's (Independent Business Owners) who are elected representatives of the field, so they outnumber the company representatives, which means no decision can be made to change anything with the company that would fundamentaly affect our compensation without first being approved by IBO majority. There's nothing else like it. Amway has been around for 58 years and paid out over 55 Billion to IBOs. Amway is also debt free and privately held, which means more money paid back to the IBOs, more money into R&D, and more ability to pivot with the market. We have the liquid capital to acquire and adopt winning niches and absolutely blow them up... If you asked about the philanthropic generosity of Amway we'd be here all day, the list is endless. Thanks again for getting the truth out there, we tell people this is a 5-10 year process to financial independence (IF you follow what we teach)... It's going to be harder than you think, it might take longer than you think, but the rewards will be better than you can understand. Be great!

I am 13 years old and I really found this video interesting and has changed my ways of thinking about marketing. If you want to be successful at marketing you have to invest 10 years into it. You can’t just go in thinking you are going to be a millionaire in the first month, and have all the girls, and the cars, and a house in California. It just doesn’t work like that and people in there 20s or 30s are gullible into thinking that they can make 6 figures a month doing this in one year. They eventually fail because they are not making 6 figure but if they could make a living off it, do it! If they invest their time into it, it will pay off in the long run and after hours and hours of work for 10-15 years you will eventually get your dream car or house but you can’t be thinking about that. You have to worry about your customers more then your next paycheck, if you are to busy worrying about money then you won’t have any sales because you will be annoying trying to get the people to buy it. If you relate with the client and make them feel good and become friends with them and make them feel comfortable talking to you then you start talking about your product. They are more likely to buy rather then saying “buy this product because you will get tons of girls!”. I really loved this video and has honestly changed my way of thinking about the different types of marketing.

Thank you Patrick and @valuetainment for making this video!!! I searched a lot of places to find some unbiased opinions on MLM when deciding launch my business and your video answered every question and concern that I had. I am starting my first month in business as an Independent Business Owner and have found the information and time that my coach and mentor have given me in this short amount of time soooo valuable. I was very close to trusting all of the negative, one sided information that is so easy to come by. Again, thank you for such great content!!

So how did it go? 6 years later, how is your “independent business owner” thing going? By the way, calling this unbiased when this guy literally owns and has made millions from an mlm is absolutely hilarious.

Bad Christians don't invalidate Christianity in the same way as crooks and cheaters don't invalidate Capitalism... Great content Pat! Always enjoy watching your work. - Andre

Scientology is currently trying to claim they're Christians in order to be more valid. A lot of Christian cults and sects, like the ones which are "prosperity" churches, serve to invalidate Christianity. Until I researched cults and religions I thought all Christianity, including Catholicism, was the same.

Being apart of your channel is like walking and bumping your toe into a stump that's made of Gold and you try to dig it up and realize this ain't a stump it's the Apex of a buried gold mountain. I value your content. Thank you.

Anyone else notice that the chalk-board says "Types of Maketing?" Also, this guy's argument is so reductive. MLM is not a legitimate way of getting into business.

great video pat. BTW, that kid who messaged you saying that most people were responsive to his abusive marketing was lying. I was apart of a company that encouraged us to say that as script. That company doesn't exist anymore.

Juanmanuel Vizcarra Oh you poor man. Working for a MLM scheme has nothing to do with entrepreneurship. Do you manufacture the products yourself? Do you control the pricing? Do you decide the methods of distribution.

Bra, I rate your channel on par with the MBA I have done. I would even go as far as to say your channel is the depth that the degree lacks. Not bashing MBA's but the honesty and straight forward reality you are providing are usually not openly shared. Thanx

That's what I dislike about this Patrick bet David guy. He never addresses the issue. He goes on talking and talking for hours No one in MLM ever addresses the issue.
