@eciv2006 Nah I don't think it has anything to do with race for the most part. There are a lot of black chamas and chamos, just like there are a lot of costeñas and costeños, morenas morenos. But as in many cases, probably the high class European Venezuelans look down on the dark skinned Venezuelans. Just like how the light skinned Colombianos en Bogota look down upon the "loud and dark skinned" costeños in Cartagena. It's not Venezuela vs. Colombia unless we are talking about futbol. According to my girlfriend, who is costeña, there is no bad blood between the two countries that used to be one. They are like brother countries.
@russel0825817 ай бұрын
@eciv2006 Don't generalize so much. Dominicans don't so much dislike Haitians at all because of the color of their skin. There are so many black Dominicanas that I can't see them at night, lol. It's more economical. Because of the bad economy in Haiti, they go to DR for work, and they end up filling in the low paying jobs that the Dominicans dont want to do. Then, the Dominicans complain that Haitians are taking away all the jobs! When I went to Punta Cana, almost everyone serving the food and beer at the beach was Hatian.

Living three years in Caracas in the ´80 and just coming back from doing a research work of two months over there: living with $20 or $40 is very difficult and I got to know a lot of families struggling to survive. Why the middle class fled first? Because life got more and more complicated, one of the richest countries fell into a black hole. They failed to install a „Norwegian State Fund for all“ - only the rich ones could save their money… One always needs as well a historical point of view - or not?

Caracas was planned to be a great metropolis, unfortunately it was lost due to corrupt governments. Despite everything, it is a great city, but the media demonizes Venezuela a lot as if it were some kind of poor African country in a super insecure war.

Caracas is much nicer than I would have expected. Is it an exception or are most Venezuelan cities this nice?
@kevinschmidt19177 ай бұрын
I would say that each city has a different style, some are more similar to Caracas such as the city of Valencia, Maracaibo (which is a very large and very hot oil city) Barquisimeto, La Guaira. But there are also the cities where very rich people live, such as Maturín, Lecherías which are very beautiful and coastal, and then there are also states with a very touristic focus such as Mérida, Falcón, Amazonas and Bolívar. It also has many very touristy islands

I lived in Caracas for 6 years as a teenager, from 1970-76 (when it was truly a democracy). They were some of the most memorable years of my life, however, I am hesitant to take my family there for a visit until the political situation settles down and relations with the US improve. Even back in 1970 there was an occasional security issue - in particular when we received a bomb threat at our home, or when my father's workers protested and hanged him in effigy outside his office building. Unrelated, a high school classmate's father was kidnapped and held captive for 1.5 years. Back then, everyone was well aware of the purse/chain snatchers on motorcycles when standing on street corners. There is a significant divide of the classes with a huge poor population and a disproportional (shrinking) middle class. While the majority of the people we encountered were good people, there was a certain fraction that did not take kindly to "gringos" living there. I have heard from friends (who still live there, both from VZ and Cuba) that you need to be cautious and aware of your surroundings (especially at night). (BTW, this video had very little night footage.) Crime is not limited to just tourists. I know some locals who had their jewelry stolen on the street at gun point in broad daylight. I have also had colleagues travel to Caracas for work who were robbed in their taxis going to or from the airport. All i am saying is if you go to VZ, you better go with EYES WIDE OPEN, which is a shame because it is a beautiful country.

General Suleimani was fighting a lot against the Isis, he was a key factor in beating them when western powers and their gulf allies did nothing.(did they create Isis?) Many times he visited the front lines, he was very popular among his soldiers. The usa made a big mistake and committed a cruel crime with assasinating him.
