I’ve been 3d printing g solidly for a year now and just tackled my greatest challenge, the FEP change! It’s great seeing all the knowledge I’ve accumulated on a new clean fep that prints reliably

Ps. Could you do a video about the holes on the Mega8KS build plate? Best raft that you use on the plate? Surprisingly I see very little info on Phrozens subreddit

Sure thing! I’ve been surprised by how little issue it’s caused me.

@@GrayScalpMiniatures Thank you so much! I've gotten a lot of mileage out of my Saturn 8k! been trying to decide wether the build plate upgrade will be worth it for larger scales and one of the major selling points for me is that the build plate is not on a ball screw

The amount of 3d resin printers I have seen on FB Market place that say in the description" Only used a few times, found out it wasn't for me" or " tried it but didn't really like using resin" is very common. Thanks for showing the full process and what it's like.

Exactly. So many people will get a printer based on it looking so easy in videos and promotional materials, and then realise there’s a bunch of other considerations. If they know that in advance the likelihood is things will be fine, otherwise it’s enough to put them off altogether and that’s not what we want.

This is me - thinking of selling this thing. I setup my cold cellar with a custom made heated box for this stuff, a custom exhaust system for it, bought all the PPE, liters and liters of IPA... I just hate doing this. I spent like over $1000 CAD on my entire setup and 3 full nights building the heated and insulated Cabinet (I live in Canada, a thin mylar grow tent won't do anything in a sub-zero cold cellar). Frankly I just hate doing this and while it seems convenient to get a large variety of stuff to paint I'd way rather have just spent my money on random kill team boxes and painted those up. No matter how much you try to make the process of resin clean it just won't be. IMO just get an FDM printer for terrain and buy your models.

@ Thankfully FDE has gotten pretty good and there is a community of FDE printer fans that are into miniatures. You can't get resin details but you can get 2k-4kish level it seems. For me that's good enough and I with the Bambu Labs printers being crazy easy to use I am going that direction now myself.

Great video! I've met quite a few people who bought printers and didn't realize the work that would go into it. I finally bit the bullet and bought a resin printer. I didn't take into account the cost of all of the PPE and other things I'd need with it. Fortunately, I kind of enjoy the process of starting with a fluid and ending with a finished mini that I can paint and use.

Great to see this being addressed. Not a lot of people realise that you have to think about these things before you even start.

Thanks for this video. After watching this I think that resin 3d printing isn't for me simply because I live in an apartment and don't have the space or proper ventilation to use it properly.

Thank you for making this video. I’ve considered getting a 3D printer for years but keep delaying it because I live in a small house. The only place I could safely put a printer is my basement, and I worry the fumes would travel upstairs since there aren’t any doors between the basement and the main floor.
@Weaver_Games

IMO if you run the printer in any area that shares the same HVAC system you live in - then that's not a safe solution. No grow tent venting our the window is going to fully prevent the fumes. Your risk level is up to you but I think people are way, way too comfortable running these things in areas they shouldn't be.

I know that I am not in a place (physically or financially) where I can get into resin 3D printing but this video really does help inform on what's needed and what to keep in mind. Do you have specific product suggestion videos? (I'm completely new here, this is the first vid from you that the YT algorithm's have sent my way).

Another thing people need to think about is the price of the files. A lot of the cool stuff is paywalled because modelers need money too. The files are still cheaper than already molded models, and you can print an infinite amount of them once you have the file, but I've seen people expecting everything to be free. They're excited to print until they find out that they have to pay $10-12 for cool files.

How are you heating your printers in the garage while in a grow tent? Fermentation belt, ceramic heater or something else?

Would you recommend that phrozen megacure? I kinda want somewhere to put bulk loads of prints to dry.

Yeah it’s really really good for large amounts of prints or large prints in general. It also has racks that go inside so you can have lots of layers and also that helps to get the underside of the print as well.

Gws price hikes haven’t gotten so bad with what little they give in the kits that I can no longer defend them on the “don’t 3d print” arguement. So much so that I’ve looked and priced resin 3d printers sold at my local microcenters which are priced affordably. Just gotta save and also watch this to see what else I’ll need to invest in when I finally purchase said printer.

Still in the worst scenarion when you print 11angron on the new printer and then throw it away, still be more worth it than GW

Just not going to go near resin. I’m waiting for an A1 upgrade which has two print heads, so that miniatures are possible with support contact points printed with another filament without needing to purge the nozzle each time. I can live with the quality issues compared to resin. I just can’t be dealing with toxic resin.

resin is caustic, and its not even the most toxic part, that would be alcohol cleaning resin as that turns resin into a aerosole, so most safety is around ventilation which would be already as focus if you paint and sand.
