Nice video, I'm glad you liked my hometown. Just for explanation: at 9:10 - the sound is a test of air sirens, it happens every first Wednesday of the month at 12 o'clock. It has been introduced after the extreme floods in 2002 (1000 years flood, causing extreme damage through the whole country, especially in Prague). As there was no mobile network then, the people got warned through the sirens. It has remained since then... 9:30 - this is a ceremonially changing of the guards of the Prague castle - every day at 12 o'clock full ceremony + every hour small show while changing.. You have missed the castle gardens btw. or at least it wasn't shown in the video. There are spectacular views, buildings and mostly trees from all over the world, some of which are more than 600 years old - those were gifts of other emperors to our kings then.... And finally, to your tour to Bohemian Switzerland - you might get a bit dissappointed, as there was a huge forest fire 1 year ago, lasting for unbelievable 2 weeks. Our firemen had to get help from German firefighters, as it was really intense. Therefore, huge area is burnt and some sections are still closed, due to safety.... But the main attraction, the Pravcicka Gate, is opened and did not get any damage, thankfully...

Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! Thanks for all the great tips. We were very surprised to hear the sirens and then it seems the changing of the guards happened at the same time -- quite an event! The Bohemian Paradise was very beautiful -- we had a great time there. We didn't notice any area with fire damage fortunately.

The loud sound you heard is the city sirens, they test them once a month always on a first Wednesday. Locals know this, for tourists it might be a bit scary probably thinking an air raid is coming😂 The sound is totally unrelated to what you saw, which was changing of guards at the Prague castle.

Yep, the crowds were even worse when we were there, but we were there in late June. It's a beautiful city, but it's so crowded! I'm sure you are still enjoying it! Are you going to Karlstejn? It was magical!
@OurFreedomYears

I can only imagine how crowded it gets during peak season. It was shocking enough during the chilly early spring. 😂 No Karlstejn this time round unfortunately.

We went for five nights a few years ago. In April. It was very cold but those huge warming meals with white dumplings and slabs of meat sure help. And very cheap! We arrived on a Monday and it was ok until Friday when the crowds got boosted. And manic on Saturday. But as you say, the crowds congregate in certain areas and there aren’t that many people when you stroll up and down the river. And especially not when the river is crossed.

It's so true -- Prague becomes a different city once you leave the top sights behind. We had some lovely quiet walks in the parks on the other side of the river.

Did you visit the Jewish quarter?

We passed through only too briefly. To be honest, we probably need to go back to Prague again soon and spend a full month to fully experience the city.
@letecmig
@letecmig Жыл бұрын
There is no 'jewish quarter' in PRG really. The erstwhile jewish quarter was 'redeveloped' in the end of 19th century ....and all the buildings replaced by apartment houses in art nouveau style. (btw, the area was, by mid-19yh century was no longer 'jewish', more like just a slum-like quarter, that is why it was torn down and completely rebuilt) Only two synagogues plus jewish cemetery survived in the area, otherwise all buildings are just slightly more than 100 years old and have nothing in common with erstwhile Jewish quarter;)
