Maybe I love your content because of the autism. My youngest has autism. He's 17 and significantly developmently delayed. Last weekend we finally made it down to Clint's. He doesn't like to touch others or be touched. The first snake he held her face got close to his and he had an issue. Ten minutes later he looked like he'd been doing it for ten years. He fell madly in love. He held a dozen+ snakes the skink and the monitor. The little one wrapped around his neck. They crawled over his head all around his body.He had no problem at all. He couldn't get enough. He's got fairly twitchy hands so we passed on the small lizards because it wasn't safe for them. He didn't want to leave. I had to promise him with many repeated trips back to get out the door. He said "Mom I'm a reptile guy like on the electronics ". I was so happy for him.

As an autistic person myself, I've been thinking "I wonder if Kevin knows he is probably autistic" since these videos started grabbing me. A perfect example of how autistic traits can lead to some of the most fascinating experts and pioneers. This guy has sooooooo much love for these creatures that I can only imagine how bad his emotional suffering is when things go wrong and how long it must stay on his mind. Anyway, thank you for dropping that in about your autism Kevin, it made me smile and feel a little kinship 👊

Hey, no hate at all! Seeing people breeding complex morphs like in ball pythons and retics, it is clear that some breeders get a bit wrapped up in finding the perfect combos and whatever, and i see some people cutting too early or messing with the snake in the egg. Most of these breeders dont treat the snakes poorly at all, and i totally respect them. I agree that the industry is pretty professional. Good luck with your breeding, what species of large constrictor do you have?

You describing how the "deformed" reptiles live makes me think of myself and other people with disabilities, even simple things can be challenging. Also, before I got my bearded dragon, I decided that if it ever gets to a point that I can't take care of him, I'd find someone who can, or someone who can adopt him out. Not that I want to do that, but if that ever happens, I hope I can find him a home with someone like you who cares so much about these animals.

I really appreciate that he shares these cases because I feel like not enough breeders do. He doesn't see a lot of negative deformities because he has really good stock and he knows what he's doing(and is meticulous) but new breeders very frequently have tons of problems. I have several friends who are newer to breeding and they show me when things go wrong and it is incredibly stressful on them. Many of them have given up breeding after the first encounter and the ones that have hung in there each time they show me something they're like I am okay I will get used to this and then they get to see the next level of horror someday. It can be really bad. Really really bad and really really tragic and I wish more people knew that going into this because it would help encourage them to do things more carefully and set up good biosecurity good quality hatching environments that are rock solid instead of trying to put together something to be affordable for now in the hopes that someday they'll be able to afford something better. If you start out cheap, and you don't fully understand how development works and the importance of paying attention to your foundation stock and their genetics you're being set up for some real horror shows. It's even worse if you don't understand biosecurity fully. The thing is you can do everything right but by a sheer fact of numbers, you will encounter things that you cannot unsee. I really really appreciate Kevin for showing some of these things so that people are aware that animal breeders have to deal with this and it's not a good time. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how Elmo does. I'm assuming that Kevin can see that this is superficial over the top of the eye and not coming from inside the eye which is very good news as there is a type of cancer that sprouts out of the back of the eye that animals are sometimes born with witch is similar looking to this, but obviously structurally quite different. My heart goes out to the one with the internal development issues in the abdomen. I'm never quite sure what's worse, the ones that come out that you know have zero chance, or the ones that come out looking normal and you don't find out until the necropsy that they're missing in Organ.

Ha! Kevin, I love your ‘tism! My son is also on the spectrum. Right now his main focus is music. His Dad and I (divorced and living in 2 different states) bought him a bass guitar, and an acoustic. I got him an amp, and Dad just acquired a nice electric guitar. The moral of the story is that for those in the Autistic community, grabbing a tight hold of your passion brings great success! Yes, there is a lot of work to be done, but there is also a fantastic teaching platform that you belong on, such as YT. I have learned SO MUCH about reptile care just from you alone. I've come to realize that most of the great people in our history are probably autistic so make sure your kids are aware of that too. Autism is a term that we use to describe people who think a bit differently and it's people who think a bit differently that lead to great changes and forward strides in human culture, but in each of those cases they found somebody who was able to translate for them when communicating so that's an important thing to focus on getting better at and also finding people who can bridge the gap.

@@NewEnglandReptile This is one thing I dislike seeing people say about autism, personally. But I see a lot of people say it. To me, my autism isn't a superpower, it's a disability; it makes me think differently and it gives me more extreme passion about the things I really love, but that comes at costs such as my social ineptitude or my high sensitivity to specific stimuli.

I'm very supportive with how you keep the circle of life going. It's horrible that the little guy was born with life threatening issues, but his life will bring nourishment to something else still giving his life purpose rather than just tossed or cremated like some would. Too many people put the human feelings above the quality of life for the animal. Elmo even if he can't see can still have a wonderful snake life. I am praying for Snarfles and I hope he's doing well - poor guy has been so abused, but luckily he's in good hands now and Kevin will know when he's had enough and won't let him suffer.

I breed many species of poison dart frogs and tarantulas. Every so often there are froglets with spindly leg syndrome (sls) or something else not quite right. It's sad but it's part of the hobby you may have to endure if you have breeding plans. It's not always ethical or kind to try to save young that cannot feed on their own or live a relatively normal life. It is heartbreaking though. Especially after all the work, care and love put into getting the animals to even be born, to see a beautiful froglet I raised from egg-tadpole-froglet morph out with sls is crushing. I am grateful that it is extremely infrequent in my case because I supplement properly, and I do small batch breeding. Very good and educational video. I keep snakes and lizards as pets too, but I don't produce them (aside from mourning geckos.) Regardless these kinds of videos are extremely interesting to me. I love that you show the not so pretty stuff about breeding and keeping reptiles. There's no need to sugar coat reality. I have mad respect for NERD for that. Also, I LOVE the rescue/treatment videos. These can be an invaluable resource for people who keep reptiles but for whatever reason can't afford (or just won't) bring their animals to a vet. I'm not advocating for people to do that, but I realize that there are many folks who don't have access to exotic vets as well as people who wouldn't even take their animal to a vet if they could, so it's better the info is out there than it not be. Cheers!

I have found the best way to show homo vs Herero is by the use of light switches…one row of switches for each parent. If the baby has two ‘on’ switches (inherited the gene from both parents) it’s homozygous…if the baby has an on and an off, it’s heterozygous. The light switch board works great for demonstrations.

Totally off topic question, but is there any chance that in the future, you might work on breeding some dwarf and super dwarf lines? I saw one Jampea cross on the website, and I'm hoping it means you've got a project going. I would absolutely love to own a retic, but I do not, and probably never will, have the resources to care for a fully grown adult. A super dwarf, though? That's within my means. I think that goes for a lot of other hobbyist reptile keepers, too! Considering how many fake dwarf and super dwarf retics pop up on Morphmarket, it can be hard to find a breeder with absolutely bulletproof credentials like NERD. And as much as I appreciate Reach Out Reptiles, I would love to be able to support NERD and throw as much money at Kevin as I can. Plus, with the number of different morphs you have in the king size variety, I bet you could introduce new morphs into the fun size market over the course of a few years. I have no idea what the logistics and resources this kind of undertaking would require, obviously, so there's a good chance I sound like an ignorant whiny pissbaby asking santa for the latest and greatest new toy fad, but hey, a girl can dream.

A family friend has breed a albino Australian Inland Thi Pan. But it's skin has the lightest shade of pink through that white skin. He wouldn't let me take photos of it😂. His been offered a hundred and twenty thousand euros for it🤯. 3 years ago he breed a two-headed female Australian Red Belly Black snake. That's thriving and each head eats fine. His got great luck for only breeding for 8 years.

Omgoodness he's adorable! It's actually a cool thing that disabilities happen in the animals. Some people may think that's bad but we do educational presentations. Some of the kids we work with are disabled and it makes them feel better to know they're not alone. I hope that makes sense. If you let Elmo go, we'd love to get him. We'd love to get a snake from you.

I’m defective as well. I’ve owned two companies/businesses in life and was very successful then went to the wrong doctor after an accident . I became addicted to the pain meds he prescribed. I’m recovered now, but have lost so much. Thankfully it was all material and not my beautiful family. I need a companion…and I’d love one who isn’t perfect…just like me.

Lol! Andy getting tagged - baby snek: "WU-PAH! SNEAK ATTACK!!" 😂😂 Kevin, you are NOT stupid, and speaking as someone from a family that has a whole bunch of neurodiversity - we prefer the term 'neurosparkly' instead of 'not normal'. It's those differences that give people their personality quirks and often become the things we love most about them; those quirks and differences are how they get their sparkle that makes them unique. So you're not 'abnormal' or 'stupid' you're neurosparkly! 😂 If you don't mind me asking, were you diagnosed as an adult or child? My nephew was diagnosed very young (before his teens), and although he obviously struggles at times, his autism is/has always been just a part of who he is. However, I know some people who are being diagnosed in their 30s/40s, and it's really knocked them for six, so they become very ashamed of their sparkles. You seem semi-comfortable with it, though, although that could be because you know we already love you, sparkles and all! ❤😂

I had no idea that you were on the spectrum! It explains why you don't like to go to cons very much. Way overstimulating. I appreciate your honesty very much. When Brian posted about his struggles with anxiety, that was the day that I subscribed to his channel. The animals are great, but I also enjoy getting to know the humans who care about them.

I'm sure I'll still buy it knowing me but hopefully it's going to be worth it whatever it ends up being

Elmo is so cute, love his name, i think its great that you try to keep the animals like elmo who have deformities because they are special, some breeders just euthanise them, obviously sometimes its not humane to keep them alive so obviously then they should be euthanised But im glad you try to keep them alive if possible. Where does the blue eyed lucistic get its name from as many of them have red eyes ? Or am i just being thick ? Lol I understand 100% your struggling with money to keep the facility going but i really hate those member only features, some people simply cannot afford to join and then miss out on special content, id join 100% if i could afford it, the cost of living crisis and prices of everything hits us all, not trying to be negative or horrible towards you though, i love your channel and your videos, your knowledge is incredible, i love learning from you.
