i got a Mason and Risch Cameo 64 key spinet for $200! It means the world to be. I origional owners were so happy that im going to have this piano because it was a family heirloom and will be cherished my a music lover. Ive kept in touch with them and post them videos of me playing the piano.

I don't know how much a Yamaha U1 was selling 40years ago but it still sells for 5000$. You don't get back the full value but it doesn't plummet like a Young Chang or Pearl River. Yamaha and German brand get a good selling value. Steinway also.

If you buy a new Steinway B now at $94k, next year its worth $55k. But there is a sweet spot in used pianos where there is plenty of life left and you can buy low and see it be worth more in 5 or 10 years. But there are too many variables for a non expert to always find that spot. But playing music is priceless!

Good luck finding a one year old Steinway for half price. I've personally never seen one. And usually it would get sold back to the dealer who sells it for way more than $55k.

So I’m the first minute they answered the question asked in the title. Answer: no pianos are not good financial investments. They depreciate like cars. Unless you find the Steinway from the Titanic and and restore it. Lol

Great discussion! Definitely a great investment! Investment in happiness, mental health. In fact, investment in music is always great. I bought a Yamaha U3A for my son and myself and I would say, it is one of my best investments. It is Art and beauty besides great sounds. And I believe the value will last very long. Aged wood is really good. Investment in music education is always great!

From an investment standpoint, the measure of a good investment is one which beats the S&P500 index. For the past 10 years the S&P index has risen by about 240%. It’s kinda doubtful that any piano is going to increase in monetary value by 240% over a 10 year period. ;-)
