What I think is the saddest part is that yes they get to be a princess for one day, but then the next day it's back to being Cinderella, a glorified servant. These girls are happy for a time, but the are excited for the wedding, not the marriage. Can you imagine the most exciting day of your life being over by the time you are 21?

I could write a dissertation but I'll try to keep it simple. For starters I will acknowledge the level of control and DV in this traditional set up is across all cultures that observe it. There is absolutely a power balance issue when someone isn't _allowed_ to work. But now let me say you're being a bit myopic. Every birthday, every holiday, every wedding and every new baby bring us another best day of some sort. Everything is hard when you don't want it. But life is incredible if you consciously find reasons to be happy. 😊

@MavonEast the problem is, none of the young girls (yes quite a lot if them are not even women yet legally), are not allowed to decide what they want. They are set along a certain path at a very young age and do not have the personal resources to deviate from that path, especially since a lot of them, including this sweetie Elizabeth here are quite illiterate. And I am not being short sighted, I said the most exciting day, not the happiest. That is THEIR view, not mine.

In the last video, I commented that IMO the females should be allowed to attend school because what if the women in these wedding videos get a divorce or their husband dies? How can the womem fend for themselves and provide for their children? It seems, in Bridgette Senior's case, the Gypsy community rallied around her and protected her and the children from her violent husband. But, what if the Gypsies had sided with the husband? Again, I do try to understand the differences in cultures. But, every child deserves an education, regardless of their gender. I hope more of the young females in the Gypsy communities will opt to stay in school and, at the very least, learn to proficiently read and write. It appears that young girls are groomed at a very early age to clean, cook, and care for younger family members. How can these girls possibly know how exciting it is to learn new things when they are discouraged, rather than encouraged, to attend school? Are the parents afraid the children will end up being smarter and more knowledgeable than they are because the parents dropped out of school? If so, that is a vicious cycle that could be broken. We're living in a different world now with all the technology that's available. Children need to keep up, rather than being left behind, in our ever changing world. Maybe the females could do virtual learning if their parents are afraid they will be corrupted if they attend public school. There are a lot of options for getting a basic education these days. Nice video, OMG Weddings. 🙂

I understand keeping their traditions alive but honestly these girls should be able to get solid education and be able to have jobs. Keeping them married off and home bound is oppressive. What if they want something different than young marriage and children. Seems kind of sad.

This culture comes off as abusive from the start. Isolation from society and lack of education. manipulation on what’s right & wrong in their world. You can’t convince me it’s appropriate for them to be grabbing these girls & having their way, & BEING prompted to do so. When it’s blatant sexual harassment + fine ???

I think we all have to agree with Noreen. For that ONE special day of our lives; (which hopefully will only happen once),😉 we want to be the "Princess" of our Wedding, we want to be the MOST beautiful Woman in the Church/ Reception/ or Party on THAT day, because it only happens once.👰‍♀️😊 We also want our friends and family to remember how very memorable ( in a good way) that our Reception was (for us) and those we chose to share it with. Each culture has their own styles & traditions, no one is " better" or more fashionable, to each his or her own is whats best.😊
