We were trained to only move at night if you absolutely have to, otherwise you stay put, keep quiet, no fires, no smoking, and no talking.

I agree with u to a certain extent. But NV and thermal are a definite game changer at night. But definitely take care of your children first!

I did Air Force SERE decades ago. We did one night movement segment and it was eye opening. They made us take all of the necessary safety precautions and it was still difficult as F. Very slow moving too. We’re talking stalking speed. Anyway, it’s always great to see people discussing this stuff.

SERE first 15 seconds I poked my eye with a branch. 3 minutes in we laid down till the sun started rising.

US Army used to tell us about 8 minutes for your eyes to adjust, this is dependnant on whether you went form white light or reduced light, this is also why military vehicles have red and green light, green light for inside vehicles doors closed but red light for when doors and hatches are open or red lenses for flashlight outside in combat

I think a lot of people get confused and apply things to extremes. For example "red light is less broadcasting at night than white light" gets turned into "If I use a red light they can't see me". Because so many people don't use and test their gear, they don't realize all these soundbites people spout aren't true. The other issue with NV is it does need some sort of light, in pitch black you will need at least an IR light. That light will broadcast your position to other people with NV.

Periphrel vision is slightly better at night than my normal vision.....yeah, I noticed that when I was in grade school and asked a teacher about it. I was told to go look it up of course. SO I DID!! I found out that the EDGES of the retina are more sensitive to light than the rest. This is due to a slightly higher concentration of rods rather than cones in the edges of the retina. Since rods are also responsible for motion detection, this is also why you often can see flitters of motion "out of the corner of your eye" all the time.

Hey Jason, I had to stop at 9 mins in where you're asking about those of us with disposable income... well sir I'm an oddity of sorts. I have a fixed disposable income. My income is fixed to come in as retirement, but it becomes disposable before I ever see it. Lol I just can't figure it out can you shed any light on this dilemma? As I will be sending half of what I end up with to you, expect a heavy envelope it will be filled with metal monies. Also take the wife and kids for a treat on me. Least I can do. 😊we love your videos, and we love you brother keep entertaining and teaching us. Thanks again.

Moon Full moon is great Half moon ok New moon and Waxing, Waning moon is hard (NVG time) For all the above NVGs for details Although my first experience with NVGs were the AN/PVS2 (seeing the same thing (not much) just in green) ...and not that impressed. (so first impressions count) Thick vegetation Logs and stuff. really difficult (sore shins) single file and everyone hits the same logs (funny) Light soils Roads and trails are easy (road marches) Flares Everything looks like a toy miniature landscape in open country (cool)

All this dependence people are having on their devices might not turn out so good. Take everybody's favorite night vision. What are you going to do if you're caught in a situation where you can't use it cuz your batteries are dead and you've got no way to charge or replace them ? What happens then ?
@jovenalasis44684 ай бұрын
My two cents: Night vision and thermals provide a significant advantage to people who have them over those who don't have them. This is why if you can afford them, buy them and train with them. You did raise a point about overdependence to such devices, and this is why night movement without night vision should still be taught to people. In the event that night vision fails and you can't get it back on, you might want to move, or stay put, or move to a spot where you will be less likely to be discovered and wait until there is some light for you to continue your journey.
