I never got softlocked in Pokemon, but I was (probably) a trailblazer in Twilight Princess. Bought it new in 2006 and saved in the Sky Cannon room with Shad. My favorite softlock is one in gen 3 where you get a poisoned Pokémon down to 1hp right in front of the lottery person so that a single step faints your Pokémon and takes you to pacifidlog town. The only way out of the softlock is to win the master ball from the lottery which you only get one attempt at a day. Otherwise you can’t catch any Pokémon to escape pacifidlog town.

The Oddish softlock can be made even worse if it only knows Swords Dance, Sweet Scent, Flash, and Double Team, and it had the power points of all those maxed out. Since none of these moves are capable of dealing damage, your only method of escape would be using Struggle, and in order to do that, you'd have to go through 136 total combined power points. Keep in mind, though, that since Struggle causes recoil damage, you could only knock out a few Pokemon before fainting yourself, and then you'd have to start the whole process all over again

@@atomdecay that doesn't mean he can claim ownership on it? If someone did a softlock vid called "Neat softlock on HGSS" or something, without any knowledge of this pikasprey guy, do they have to credit this random guy that you and several others (yours is the only comment on this I can find in this video btw, who are these others you mention?) say "invented the video genre" or whatever? Should all let's players, nuzlockers, video essay, or vlogging channels now have to credit the person that invented those things that have been around for ages now? Tl;dr: people are allowed make different videos on the same subject matter. Don't gatekeep a genre, espcially one around softlocks, which have been in video games (not just pokemon) for ages.

To clear the air, I did not "have my mind made up" I just didn't understand what you meant. I will I don’t give a fuck. But you’re writing paragraphs about something that doesn’t matter. it’s our footage our own take. The nine hours in Cinnabar Mansion can be easily cut down by encountering a poison type and then swapping between unpoisoned mewtwos until Sludge inevitably poisons all 6. Then either continue swapping without ever using a move for poison damage to do the deed or walk and run from encounters to succumb in the field. Using Struggle was just the worst way to escape the lock.

@@blue_boo3171 Thats a great point that I overlooked. How about Meowth, Teddiursa or Aipom then? They've got Pick-Up but cant learn Fly or Surf by Gen 3. Or does R/S/E prevent you from recieving non-Hoenn Pokemon?

@@Manticorpse Don't need to worry about those three, as Phanpy can have the ability Pickup and can be found in the Safari Zone in RSE.

your channel is the gift that keeps on giving. every video you put out just gets better everytime. ive seen so many softlock videos but yours gives an air of dread which honestly felt a bit way too personal, i love it. youre definitely my comfort watch here on youtube. thanks for all the work that you do!

Love the 2000s vibes emanating from this video. So nostalgic. I love the personality here, very unexpected for a Pokémon video but it’s awesome :)

It's actually insane how in my late 20s I still don't feel much different than when I was a kid. I don't know how my parents dod it, because I can't see myself at any age suddenly being wildly different than I've always been. I love Pokémon, and I don't think that'll ever ever change.

pokemon with pickup that dont learn fly or surf could also let you escape sort of cause you could get an ultra ball, catch a magikarp, and switch train it on the other magikarps, though that would take even longer

Wasnt expecting to get this emotional over a video about softlocks in pokemon, a series that I'm only involved with beacause I randomly picked Pokemon Yellow out of a display at a video game store 25 years ago, but here I am. And I'm okay with that. Thanks, Phin.

Honestly, I'm just glad you know what a softlock even is. A lot of people seem to be under the impression that it refers to freezes.
