Thank Fr. Spyridon. We are currently doing a book club with our priest of “The Eucharist” by Alexander Schmemann and it blows my mind the depth of the Eucharist. It is truly a miracle that was once hidden from me as a Protestant (I came into the Church this past Lazarus Saturday), but now is something I couldn’t possibly imagine being without. This is a very beautiful Word regarding the Reality of the Eucharist. Jesus said that He established His Covenant with us through His Body and Blood. A Covenant is a very real thing established by a very real person (Jesus) toward very real people (us), so how can some say that the Body and Blood are only symbolic. The Covenant can only be based upon something that is likewise real. We don't establish contracts based on the exchange of symbolic goods or symbolic money, rather of real tangible goods and currency. A Covenant cannot be established on symbolism. When we receive the Eucharist, we commune with the real tangible Christ. To take it to it's logical end: If the Eucharist is symbolic, then our Covenant must be symbolic, thus our salvation must be symbolic. Of what value is that??? Food for thought.

❤Communion or Eucharist is an act of faith. Receiving the blood 🩸 and the body with spiritual eyes is both an outward expression and an inward experience relevant to each person and his relationship with God. Each time we receive the body and blood 🩸 we are renewed and refreshed in the knowledge that we are His children and He is our Father. It’s like saying to Jesus “I love you.” and Jesus in response says “I love you, too.” ❤

When I confessed that I want to convert to Orthodoxy to my evangelical Protestant family, one of the objections my dad raises about the Eucharist is “the bread and wine comes from some corporation that we can track it to, made in some factory, how can that ACTUALLY and LTERALLY be the Body and Blood of Christ” and he went into some nonsense about how Jesus existed before the incarnation therefore the Eucharist has to be symbolic??? Lord have mercy, pray for my family, and pray for me that I don’t fall into pride or self righteousness.

Thank you for this channel: Is the orthodox teaching that confession is preparation, one must have confession to priest each time attending Liturgy, intending to have communion? Or is it enough that one takes the situations to God by prayer? If one misses Liturgy for months, must reasons for missing be confessed to priest before Communion?

Hi Kaytee, how frequent one should confess is a matter between an Orthodox Christian and their father confessor. Missing liturgy is not generally considered to be a sin in the Orthodox Church as it is in the Roman Catholic world... but this is again a question that is context dependent and you'd get a better answer from a priest who hears confessions.

Thank you for sharing and only a consecrated Servant of the Lord, male Priest who is ordained in true faith can consecrate the Holy Eucharist which is done during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Hope that helps or reach out to a true Shepherd because there are many who are wolves in sheep's clothing. God bless in your journey to the Holy Eucharist.

Search for Orthodox churches in your area, and go as often as humanly possible

Generally you cannot receive the Eucharist at home. There are exceptions made for Orthodox Christians who are very sick, and in those cases their priest will bring the Eucharist to them either at their home or in the hospital.

Spyridon's version of scripture: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, [AND YOU BELIEVE A WAFER & WINE PUT IN YOUR MOUTH BY A PRIEST IS HIS BODY & BLOOD] thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Father Spyridon doesn’t have a version of scripture as you alluded to. Father is simply stating the teachings of the church of the past 2,000 years. Specifically the teachings of the church of the first 1000 years which continued on as the Orthodox Church post schism. Father isn’t innovating anything mate. I pray that you open heart and don’t become a victim to lukewarm Christianity. I can personally attest that there is grace to be found in the Orthodox Church.

Paul writes: “For by grace are ye saved, through faith, and not by works lest any man should boast.” So partaking communion is good, but not the way to salvation. Father spyridon almost makes it seem as though we are not true Christian’s if we don’t receive communion and it’s disheartening.

Don't be disheartened hold fast to Paul's teachings as this was given to him by revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

By receiving the Gospel of Salvation, 1CORITHIANS15: 1-4, we have received the blood atonement and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins and therefore salvation of eternal life by our Father in heaven by being sealed with the Holy Spirit of the Father of the promise. Stay strong and pray for discernment to depart from the wolves in sheep's clothing.
