Powerful sermon with perfect timing. I started fasting today and it dredged up all the repressed fear and anger which increased my awareness of how I take wrong turns by being so preoccupied with neurosis, resentments, the world and other people. It served as an opportunity to correct these wrongs by turning to the Lord and repenting instead of feeling more bitter and anxious in the usual vicious cycle. It's no wonder I was so sick from pain, anxiety, insomnia and exhaustion. I was burned out from too much of the world and the wrong focus. Fasting brought it all sharply into focus today, no longer hidden, as I got on my knees and asked for forgiveness. I feel much lighter as I write this and Father Spyridon's words resonate more powerfully now that I have a taste of this experience that he mentions. I will continue on this path that grace is revealing to me and wish the same for my brothers and sisters in God.

@@mcrdl76 because we are called as Christians to “bear one another’s burdens” and so we pray for each other. There are no Lone Ranger Christians- just the community of believers who are slowly ( sometimes VERY slowly) striving to become the body of Christ here on earth .

@@bethdrummond5763 Thanks for the enlightenment, however I noticed Fr. Spyridon did not respond in kind to this man's request, whom this man supplication was adrdessed to. My meaning on the subject is that everyon'e prayer lifted to God is worthwhile, although Fr. Spyridon also often speaks about the need for repentance and atonement for sins, fasting. Although I removed the offending staement(in your eyes) this man's requst implies Fr.S's prayers would somehow offer special indulgences from God. I actually did say a prayer for him & Fr. S. and now you as well, as we are all sinners and in need of God's grace and mercy.

@ I didn’t take offence to your question at all - it was an honest enquiry - hopefully my reply was also not offensive 😊. As for Father answering his request - he may or may not but I am sure if he reads it he will definitely pray for him. Father’s prayers would not be viewed as “better” than yours or mine. It is just a natural response to having a spiritual insight that you know you are going to need a lot of grace to even begin to tackle. Father S’s videos often have that effect on me too! And yes orthodoxy does have a large emphasis on Repentance- but it is in the original meaning of the word - to turn around or to change course. It generally involves turning from a worldly preoccupation to one that focuses on God - and boy - do I have a lot of those to work on! Fasting is an example of this - a conscious choice to “deny” ourselves in a very small way to focus on God. But orthodox fasting may be different than what you imagine as it involves eating a vegan diet for a set period of time - so no animal products or olive oil - basically it is a time where we restrict what we eat to focus more on God.

Fathering have unwanted evil thoughts now during prayer. I avoid all news media. Wars greatly disturb me, Man justifying killing innocents. Therefore in prayers that mention Israel, Jerusalem, I think of humans killing innocents, there neighbours that already live there. So old prayers, psalms remind me of this Evils in the Middle East, I avoid this, foll ur advice, Peace this Christmas. Amen
