Have been down the rabbit hole the last few weeks - can’t wait to read his book! That being said, Thank YOU and everyone of the like for your service….no matter the title, the commitment to something much bigger than the ‘self’ , with quite possible a questionable outcome, to protect your country, is nothing less than brave & admirable.

Being retired military, I know exactly where in Kingsville, TX, he is talking about. It's run by an ex-army sniper, and he knows his stuff. His dad was a big game hunter and was probably the best shot I had ever seen. You could learn more about shooting fundamentals in 10 minutes from him than in 10 years by yourself. His son is a more refined version of him and his shooting skills. Amazing courses he holds there for anyone, including women, self-defense shooting.

I was a Army combat photographer, I was working with Rangers, photographing their training. One day their snipers were shooting the Barret 50, at I believe a half mile. They let me take a shot, I could never be a sniper cause I wear glasses, but I got my shot on the target. The guys said with some practice I be pretty good. I didn't tell them I took a Mule deer at 500 yards with iron sights, using a 1903 Springfield 30.06 with tang sight. Wish I could still shoot that well, but time takes it's toll.

Regarding rain: the odds of hitting even a single raindrop in any rain shower where you can see the target is rather low (more or less the same fraction of projectiles and photons will get thought untouched). But if it did hit a drop, it would likely have a detectable effect even if the shock wave pushes it aside because the shock would reflect off the drop and likely impact the projectile.

Rain is not a factor for snipers. it is for artillery rounds.
@djtiemyshoe33112 ай бұрын
Why is that?? Genuinely curious
@JDealer182 ай бұрын
@@djtiemyshoe3311 artillery shells are a lot larger and are affected by drag from moisture more, the bullet is essentially a thousand times more aerodynamic. Edit: speed is also a huge factor
@up1oader1Ай бұрын
@@djtiemyshoe3311artillery rounds are a lot larger and flight time is a lot longer so there is more interaction between the projectile and the rain. You’re also going to shoot at something you can’t see with artillery. So even heavy rain you could shoot a shell miles down range. With a rifle, you can only shoot as far as you can see so it limits the amount of rain you could possibly hit. (Heavy rain you’re not shooting far…relatively low chance of hitting a drop)

One of the strangest things I have ever experienced as a sport shooter was on a early morning shot. I had a 223 pistol, Thomson Contender with a nice tri-spike rest and I forget the scope but, it was tight. . I was shooting though a slight fog at a target about 500 yards across a valley. When I pulled the round off, I saw a hole pop open through the mist and when it closed, the path of the bullet was visible from about 6 feet from the mussel all the way across the valley to the target. It hung there for about 3 seconds and faded away just as it left the barrel... It was so surreal to see that condensation trail drifting in the wind and just dissolve in a an arching wavy line. I fired again and the effect was barely noticeable and the third shot produced nothing aside rom the normal wisp of a fast moving trail. I never experienced anything like that again and I have well over 1/4 million rounds in my 40 years of taking shot logs. Physics is just weird sometimes..

Nothing about that formula was basic. This is why I use construction calculators. Then again... I could explain how a hip/valley works on a 9/12 pitch dying into a bastard 7/12 valley. I'd just need a framing square and a piece of wood... God bless you sir. 🫵🏼💪🏼🇺🇲🙏🏼

Is it really that simple though? Unless you’re a conscientious objector, you’ve given your body and service to be property of the government. So whatever the interests of the nation is in relation to others; even if what the soldiers think is correct, they cannot object. And if they do, they will be penalized for it. The other countries don’t have much qualms about it nor judge the morality of entering other places in the name of their country’s representation and security. The US is somewhat unique and can access the potential to hold itself accountable but that doesn’t mean that war and national conflict doesn’t mean that casualties, both unintentional noncombatant and participant combatant involved. War is unfortunately an aspect of the world. One that I don’t agree with but one that I understand that occurs. If Russia ever slipped into American shores, they’d have no issue with attempts to conquer the US if it meant the possibility for a better quality of life. Heck, I think they keep trying to get Alaska back. (Better question is ‘why’? lol Alaska is Cold Mad Max) Point is, whether you want to or not, there’s a reason why Americans sign the men sign the Selective Service. Because, if something ever happens, we’re responding, not out of patriotism (sometimes) but because they’re threatening our way of life. Life is complicated and part of it is the occasional war that happens but not fully understood all the time.
